Even though Jennie's solo was released in 2018, when blackpink was just starting to become a worldwide kpop group, her song still became a huge hit considering that she was the to first one to debut solo and blackpink was just a 2 years old group that time. Rosé wrote her songs, ‘gone’ was done two years ago and she was expecting to release it but didn’t happen at the time. Both songs are in english because it’s her comfort language in which she feels was the best way to express her message.

The main point of the song is ‘I’m shining solo’ which is something Jennie tried to express the most in the song. This phrase is not only related to the love story itself, but it can be used in every context of life. Jennie herself shared that the message she cares to share with SOLO is that you don’t need anyone’s approval in life to be yourself and to shine.
