A little one-on-one time with me as I rant on discus water parameters and what I keep my tanks at. -Greg

Mate keep going with your videos I’m sure you will become a KZfaq star. The information you give in this videos are not easy to get around and thank you for that!

Hi, thanks for your video! Really answered my question! I have kept discus from Discus Hans since I was told he is the only one that sells stendker discus that can “survive” hard water (tap water). Then i found out discus hans/stendker stopped breeding fish. Just bought a 125 gallon, planning on buying more discus, didn’t know where to buy any discus tgat can live in my tap water, until I watched your video!

Hi Greg, really good information. One thing to clarify, you told RO water to be used only for breeding but I am facing a problem with high TDS of 500+ ppm from my tap water. Is that harmful for discus health and please suggest ways to reduce TDS and what is the favourable range??

How do you acclimate your Discus to the RO water from your tap water when breeding? Thank you in advance really need your experience with this

Why did you put a long clear pipe in your spongefilter?

The tds of my tap water is 500 plus. My locality is borewell dependent water supply. So how do i keep discus with so high TDS levels?. Do i have to use RO?

So it's been 2 days since last person asked (maybe you changed your mind?)... what about now?... do you ship? :P if not, would would it take? Pre-sending you shipping materials and arrange pick-up at your door?

How about water flow? What do you recommend? The tank behind you looks like it has a super low flow rate with just three sponge filters. There might be a return line there I'm not sure.

I like to keep water flow to a minimum. If there is a canister in a tank I recommend to have the outflow fitting point towards the rear wall of the aquarium to diffuse the water flow against the glass.

Right now I'm 15 years old. But when I was 12, I got my first discus for my 55, didnt know anything about them, but the reason I got it is cuz I got it for 15 dollars from my LFS. Now that 3 years passed by, discus is still alive, idk how. Checked my water parameters and my pH is around 7.4 and water is very hard, gh is 290 ppm. Do you think I should try to lower it slowly or should I just keep it the way it is? Great video by the way! Also, I only have one. Is it fine if I add more, will the new discus be fine with the very hard water? Yes, all my parameters are consistent.

Been keeping fish from around 12 years old and I'm almost 60 now . About 5 years ago I ordered 6 young discus from a reputable breeder put them in a 55 gallon bare bottom tank the temp was kept at 86 degrees PH was 7.6 -7.8 and I was doing water changes a few times a week and vacuuming the bottom of the tank all fish where healthy and eating and within 6 months they started dropping off one at a time . Some breeders say keep the young fish at different temperatures and PH from the older fish and none of it makes sense in the wild the young and old fish are in the same temp many times hitting almost 90 degrees and the same PH and as far as pathogens if the fish are disease free they should remain disease free . one of the most confusing fish in the hobby.

Yes they can be quite a maze to navigate sometimes. The main reason I recommend the variance in temp based on size is purely for differences in metabolism at different temps. Once my fish are 1-1.5inch I like to bump up the temp to 86 degrees to get them eating and growing more. Then after 2-2.5yrs I put them in tanks closer to 80 degrees. Is it 100% an exact science? Probably not but it works for me haha. Thanks for watching!
