Follow along as my now wife and I paint my 1967 Mustang before our wedding day. A lot of inperfections and we rushed to meet our wedding date, but I’m so proud that we were able to do this together and the imperfections mean more then perfection since we did it! For a previous video on paint setup check it out. Thanks everyone for the awesome support this far stay tuned, as always please share useful information in the comments below and take it easy on me.

Wow, people are acting like their first paint jobs were perfect and everything they do is always perfect their first try. I've learned a lot about painting over the years because I've made a lot of mistakes. It's actually good because now when I make a mistake I don't sweat it because I know how to fix it. lol Just got to get in there and keep doing it. Good job and good to see your other half taking an interest in it too. Very cool.

Thanks Adam for all the comments, I’m not in love with the paint job and am working behind the scenes on hopefully re-paining in the near future and hopefully doing a much better job then my first attempt here.

Not sure why you are getting some of these hateful comments. It’s like they didn’t even watch the video lol. Thanks for the entertainment and I know you mentioned the color wasn’t your preference but I think it came out awesome. Gives me confidence to try painting a project myself.

I think it looks great in the sun and it’s growing on me. My truck is ruby red so I was expecting something more like that not maroon. I will say I think the car looks better in video I would give it a 6/10 once I get it cut and buffed

That's how it was for me. My first time. Ran into many issues and was nervous about it. Now, looking back I know I made a lot of mistakes. The temperature for the shot for the day was too hot. 90 degree dry day. Had a lot of overspray. I try preventing water in the line and still water got in. 30 gallons compressor could not keep up. Bugs for the year was bad, that is why I waited till summer. Should have waited till Early Fall. I was fighting bug and spray gun.. and I have a good quality gun. Devilbliss.. dialing in the speed and flow of the paint is very important. Paint would flash before it hit the car and psi was too high. Every little things count. Looking back I should have practice more on test panel fender or door. Maybe a little less hardener too. I ran into almost all the problems with spray painting. But it was fun doing it.

A great learning experience for your first time out painting an entire car. The final paint job suffers due to the lack of complete prep and bodywork ... numerous divots, dings, and flaws in the substrate. A classic car can take a lot of time to primer, block sand and primer and block sand until you get it smooth. The basecoat application looks dry in some areas, not sure the reducer matched the temperaturs in the garage. The cleared finish looks rought in spots. Cut and buffing may help but some parts of the car look like they might have needed more paint. I had a 1967 Mustang just like this one, it was a great car. Lots of fun, though mine looked way worse that this one did originally. Keep at it, Austin. Learn from your experiences and push forward! Great first time out.

I don’t recall the reducer we used, we fell a little short on what we would have liked with our outcome but I’m ready to drive it and enjoy it for awhile.

Nice! It'll clean up with a little work. Im glad i know about the red because that's the color i was going to go with on my 70 Corvette, the molten red. I still think it looks great though idk i might still go with it. Nice work!

Don't sweat the negative comments. Your wife did a great job ! For a beginner I would of gone with a basic single stage basic paint with clear. Hey you can always redu it say Ford red !

Some people don't realize the prep work that goes into doing what you did. Most wouldn't have the courage to take on what you did with this paint job. Hats off to you. I remember the first time I painted and entire car in my garage in the middle of winter. Here is what it looked like doing my last spray of clear coat. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/q6mferJ-3M-zk2Q.html

I made my fair share of mistakes and I wish I had access to a garage to redo it all with some more practice on some old body panels. The plan is to enjoy the car this summer and re-evaluate a re-paint in the fall. Thanks for the comment!

A tough paint choice for first paint job….id have just gone for a solid red or something it would have been less technical and covered imperfections better. To me Mustangs just need to be red anyway.

Eh, after some wet sanding and polishing it will be good because of all the orange peel I can see on the hood. But wherever that spot was that you said looks good did look really good. I will say that it was brave of you to use a metallic paint if you have no experience but it looks good. The metallic looks like it was distributed evenly, not too heavy or light in some spots.

@@austindowney7142 I fully understand, been there a million years ago. But, your choice of paint was a major problem with your early attempts. And I don't really mean the color. Although, heavy metallic does make it more difficult. I just think you should have dialed back your end goal and used a paint that would have been much more forgiving. You can take a soo so spraying result and turn it into a shocker with some after paint labor and knowledge. But that is effected by your choice of materials, for a beginner.

After giving wet sanding a shot I would say the car is a 6/10 ...20 foot paint job. But that's ok since I want to make it a driver and the memories with my Wife painting this car mean more to me then anything else. Maybe we will end up re-painting it again 🤔
