Long video - but if you are a DIYer, you might like it. I take two of the comfier camp pillows I’ve used, cut them up, and combine them to try and make the ultimate light/ ultralight pillow. Here are the two pillows I used:
Trekology UL - amzn.to/2LlLTGl
MEC Deluxe - www.mec.ca/en/product/5046-84...

Glad to see I’m not the only one trying to make a descent pillow. Great setup-might have to get me one.

Canadian tire must be like the best store in the world. Every video I watch from the north someone is getting something from Canadian tire lol

Wow...I just used a couple of pieces of Open Cell Foam on top, and wrapped it in place with a Buff....It raised the height and comfort of the Trekkology pillow, without adding too much weight.

Great video! Lol Frankenpillow. 3m makes several types of spray glue that is used for foam or fabric... not a vendor... but use this stuff when fixing upholstery on Yard furniture. 1. $23 US 3M Spray 74 Foam Fast adhesive bonds most flexible urethane or latex foams to itself and many other materials for use in general upholstery work. Also works well for attaching foam to metal 2. $8 US Bonds a wide variety of lightweight materials including paper, cardboard, plastic films, foam, and fiberglass insulation. Exhibits quick grab so parts can be joined without delay. Adhesive lays on surface rather than soaking into materials. You get more coverage, stronger bonds. Use for crafts Use for light jobs around the office Adhesive is ph neutral It is a photo safe adhesive Bonding range 30 seconds to 15 minutes Approximately 70 square feet of applied adhesive per container

I use a deflated Thermarest Airhead pillow on top of a Trekology pillow, it fits perfectly and very comfortable

"Run over to the Canadian Tire Eh..." HAHAHA This is a great idea. Makes me think about glueing some memory foam that I have kicking around to the top of my trekology!

Man, I just used this pillow on it's third trip and it's killing it. So comfy! The little pieces of open cell foam mimic a real pillow so well.

Frankenpillow LOL, good one. How about trying the glue you would use to patch a hole in your air mattress ?

Now almost 4 years later, how has this held up and where would you rate it compared to the plethora of other pillows that you have tried?

Can we see a video follow up with the franken-pillow in its compact form? Is the adhesion holding after compacting and expanding the pillow numerous times?

I'll see what I can do! I plan on making a Best Pillows 2 video in the new year, so maybe the Frankenpillow will make a guest appearance! So far everything has been holding up very well though.

@@JustinOutdoors what size was the MEC pillow that you used?
@tylerm124
@tylerm124 4 жыл бұрын
You should have used a stitch remover and resewn a case with the foam onto it. Has this held up? I feel like the flexing of the pillow and inflation and deflation would make the glue fall apart.
@JustinOutdoors
@JustinOutdoors 4 жыл бұрын
That's way above my skill level. I could probably figure out how to sew, but have never done so in my life! I'll have to learn if I get into more MYOG. The glue has actually held up all summer with multiple inflations/deflations and rolling up to put in my pack. I was surprised as, like you, I thought it would fall apart.

@@JustinOutdoors 0 skill level to use a seam ripper
@meghankraft9580
@meghankraft9580 Жыл бұрын
@@JustinOutdoors I have to agree with Tyler here, a seam ripper is just a tool that helps you break apart the seam so you preserve the material. Generally, there is more material folded at least once, so where you were wanting more material, that would have been an option maybe. Also, being four years since you've posted, and three years since this comment I'm commenting on, How has the pillow held up thus far? Are you still using it or have you found another? Also, fellow crafter AND hiker/camper, you really should try to learn, at the very least the basic pattern of sewing. I made it a habit to keep a mini kit of just a needle, small thread (strong), and mini scissors. You never know what your gear is going to have to be put through weather & use-wise and many times you can simply stitch it. It isn't always a 'simple' fix either, but can fix it for that gear to outpreform for years more to come and saving you many a dollar.

The best way to use contact cement is, glue both sides hold apart for five to ten minutes depending on temp then put together no need to wait more than a half hour after that.

They are quite different once you use them (other than the fact they are both inflatable pillows with a shoulder curve)

Maybe don't try glue. Stick the two parts into a pillow case that zips shut. Position the pillowtop part and inflatable part within the case, then inflate to hold things in place.
