I've owned many china cymbals in my time (I currently use 4 of them on my setup) and I found that my Sabian AA 17" Holy China is the best I've ever used. It seems that adding the holes quickens the decay and adds a touch more trash. That's what I noticed between the before and after footage other than the simple pitch difference. Awesome video!

Louis Mastrangelo This video makes that China sound not so good, I have it as an auxillary China and I think it sounds great. The video makes it sound really thin, but in person it sounds very full. not a lot of sustain but a full bodied China.

The holes definitely improve the attack and bite, absolutely love the Holy China sound, especially in the new mini versions. HOWEVER, Sabian gets broken returns like crazy... I think because of the configuration. So if you make one of these on your own, just do one or two rows of holes depending on the cymbal's size, and stay away from the edge of the cymbal where it turns back down.

Question: regular pattern of holes might favor certain frequencies. Wouldnt a random pattern create more different frequencies therefor changing the sound more dramatically?

I really enjoyed this video I use the 17in Sabian holy China (love it) and I've always wondered what the difference would be without the holes versus with the holes at I really like the sound that you got when you put the holes in it felt like it was more about trash cany sound And I really like that about it thanks for the video I wonder what would happen if you did that with a crash

I appreciate your inventiveness. You are going to stumble into a killer idea if not several. I own a Whu China cymbal which sounds really great, unfortunately it's mounting hole is oversized and not centered. Any suggestions as to how I could rectify this problem? I don't want to key hole this excallent cymbal. I have thought about cutting two washers out of other cymbals. Drilling a centered larger hole in the Whu that removes all of the off centered hole. Then ( applying ) the made up washers. But how? The inner one would be impossible to brsze in place because of the dome, ( it's not a bell ). And I think that brazing would stiffen up the cymbal and ruin its sound. And suggestions would be appreached. Thank You, Tom.
