I have been working with leather for a few years now and with the help of more experienced crafters I have gotten pretty good. I have also watched many videos over the years to learn new things, I have learned many new techniques and really appreciate your content. Also love the idea of precut patterns, another idea would be to make patterns out of a reusable material so that the printing and cutting step could be skipped for us. And we could go straight to cutting and tooling the leather. Thanks for all you do !!!

I've had a set of black leather armor for almost 20 years now, and I LOVE IT, but I've never found a helmet I liked enough or thought would work with the amour (and be worth the extra heat, lack of vision etc)... until seeing this! It looks like it might finally be time to dive into leather working and make a helmet for the armor!

Good to hear. You can make some decorative cuts or punch some decorative holes in the helmet to help with cooling too.

I've been waiting for a new video from you and it's finally here! I've pre-ordered the Warrior bundle. I love the shape of the helmet! When I make mine, I'll probably want to fancy it up a bit more than what you did on this one. Probably give it a Celtic knot theme. Thanks for the new helmet design.

Would really love to see an armor project that focuses on making an articulated leather version of actual medieval plate armor seen in museums where the leather pieces aren't just rigidly riveted together, but articulated to move with the wearer. Minimal decoration and no outlandish flourishes, just a functional harness of leather plate armor. The next project should be made to resemble late 15th century German gothic "Maximilian-style" plate armor, such as made by Lorenz Helmschmied of Augsburg, with tooling to imitate the lines of ridges and fluting. That would be spectacular!

Any advice or existing videos on how to apply existing measurements to armor pieces when cutting? My big fear is that I'll cut everything out and it will fit like crap.
@cbjewelz
@cbjewelz 2 жыл бұрын
Such a great pattern! A few questions: 1) can the pattern be scaled linearly according to 1-2 central measurements (e.g. head circumference)? 2) how hard does that finish make the leather? I'd like to build this and then oven harden it maybe? Looking for legit armor hard 3) does it make sense to stitch any of the pieces or would that be too much of a pain?
@Princearmory
@Princearmory 2 жыл бұрын
1 - the pattern can be scaled by percentage, so it scales proportionally to literally any size 2 - the more acrylic finish you add (ideally to the inside) the more firm you can make it, to a pretty good degree. you can also find 'leather firmer' from weaver which helps too. I never suggest going for rock hard with leather, it will eventually become brittle... it's a whole topic on itself really. 3 - you can stitch if you prefer. I just find riveting faster and easier which is the point of this series.

I'm thinking the "D" sections would be good for mounting some horns...I thinking twisted deamon, dark and sparkling 🤔 I'm also thinking a helmet sweat band (for an Army helmet 🪖) would do well in this, if properly placed for comfort and stability if you all horns.

I love your work and was stupid excited to get my new pattern set my wife bought for me! Now it's been six months since we paid for it and longer for many others and I'm a little frustrated. You said it would be available in the first quarter of this year?! After over 6 months of waiting it would be nice to have more than a very simple helmet.

Hi there, the helmet pattern in the series has been available for months and the rest of the set is in the works. There are so many patterns available immediately at the academy if you’re in a hurry. The pre-orders are specifically for those who want to buy in early for a discount but they are done when they are done and if I could wave a wand and just deliver them all today I would but I can promise that everything will be delivered in time.

@Princearmory
@Princearmory 2 жыл бұрын
You see the paper mockup in the video that is micro scale, scaling up is completely based on % you control in printing settings, so it's very easy and you can double check with a paper mockup to make sure you're in the right ball park.

For years now I dream of making the "demons souls Iron Helm" but for the life of me cant figure out how or what material to use (other than metal or foam) due to all the sharp edges. Maybe you would like to challenge yourself with a helm that has similar form factors? ;) initially i wanted to make it as a winter "hat" out of felt but without a sturdy skeleton underneath the felt, i dont think its possible structure wise.

@Mikyl Nutter it’s called a planishing stake. Originally made for blacksmithing work but works dandy for other materials. Believe he’s got a link on the site to where he got his. In principle, it’s not too hard to make one, depending on what tooling you have to hand.

DONT buy the rotary punch from lowes or Home Depot! They are flimsy, don’t cut straight, & I eventually end up with a bent frame! If you hav a drill press you can Chuck a straight round handle hole punch in it. With a board under the leather receptive punches are much easier! Works well for stitching hole punches too!
