Nice work on the mod. It is my opinion that the filter had a serious design flaw before modding it. Not sure what they were thinking when it was designed. It's a great filter, but the mod was very much needed.

Put a sprinkler/fan sprayer on the backwash. Water the grass while cleaning the filter. ;)

It only runs for 60 seconds, plus I bet full flow is needed for stirring up the internals. That's just a hunch though.

From personal experience just dont backwash too often. You want the sand to be a little dirty it helps to actually keep your pool cleaner. Believe it or not the dirtier the filter the better it cleans.

Awesome video as usual. You might want to do some research before using carbon steel fittings on your pool plumbing. I learned the hard and expensive way. When those galvanized fittings start rusting on the inside, it will migrate and stain other pool components, like steps and other white plastic stuff. Chlorine is very corrosive to carbon steel, maybe pvc is the best choice or stainless. Just my $.02.

You should build some type of shade structure over your pump components to keep it out of 12 hours of daily sun.

@@TKCL I switched out our sand filter with a big cartridge filter a couple years ago when I replaced the pump with a 2 speed pump. I never had a problem with the sand filter and still use it with the old pump as a "vacuum station" that I run a few days a week. I've replaced the 150 lbs of sand in the filter twice, and never noticed anything working loose. If I ever replace the sand again, I'll take a good look. I just read my entire Aqua Pro Sand Filter Manual and it doesn't mention anything about this. It makes sense, but if this is really an issue, they should print on the top label "Rotate Clockwise Only"

@@TKCL I just came in from several hours of mowing, and "That's like the number one rule pool service people preach" bothered me the entire time I was mowing. I couldn't even enjoy the podcast I was listening to, thinking about stupid multi-valves on even stupider sand filters. I turned to Google and started doing what I do... Wow! Did I find some funny threads that eventually turned to name calling and physical threats. LOL! I even went to the website of the company that I purchased our pool from, read everything I could find about operating sand filters and multi-valves and there's nothing about rotating the handle only clockwise. "Of course not, Dummy Dan... they want to sell you a multi-port value every couple years." 🤣 I never knew this controversy even existed before now, but I'm firmly in the "as long as you turn off the pump, it doesn't matter which way you turn the darn handle" camp. 😉

I have friends with these units and ones who install pools for a living. Plus the majority of the videos I've watched on YT also mentioned the one way rotation rule. I've heard it enough I believe it lol.

Can you do a video on how to remove air from the pool pump. I have air in mine and I am not sure how much is normal and how much is too much.
@TKCL
@TKCL 10 ай бұрын
My particular pump has not experienced any Airbound or airlock. The few that I have seen experiencing this typically has their pool several feet lower than their equipment so it sucks air anytime they service it. I've seen those people cracking a air bleeder valve like this as soon as they turn on the pump, and close it off as soon as the air is exited and water is shooting out of the air relief valve.

Pretty sure you just back the threaded pressure gauge out the same way as the plug.
@TKCL
@TKCL Жыл бұрын
Plug has a specific groove for ventilation and a o ring. Pressure gauge does not have either and needs pipe tape. You'd wind up with leaking almost immediately if you unscrewed your pressure gauge.

So when you bleed your pump should there be no water, a straight flow or something else??
@TKCL
@TKCL 11 ай бұрын
There should always be straight water, air is no good. It causes bubbles, filter head issues, lack of pump prime ect. If your pool is a lot lower than your equipment, it can suck air anytime you flush or clean your basket. Sometimes you need to bleed that air out.
