In this video we build a DIY smart mirror using a raspberry pi, a two way mirror, led tv screen, and Magic Mirror. We started our smart mirror with just a tv and dakboard but after a year we decided to do a Magic Mirror on raspberry pi. Once we had our raspberry pi and had magic mirror installed we connected it to the tv, built a pine frame, stained the frame, purchased a custom sized 2 way mirror, and assembled everything. Magic mirror isn't as user friendly as Dakboard but with a little bit of time you'll get there. Check out the links below in order to build your smart mirror.

Couple things: 1.) If you are also looking to waterproof it (for a bathroom mirror) I would recommend the similar video on DIY Perks, and using a combination of the techniques used there and here. 2.) Love the baby, followed directly by the dog, cameos! Great vid! ^_^

Great DIY build. Agree on the cooling, but I think passive cooling should be sufficient, aka slots and holes. Really dig the Fireboard t-shirt. Great idea for a giveaway 😉

Project came out great. Love that its a family project! The only issue I have is the location. You can no longer fully open that cabinet without hitting the mirror. I guess just don't keep anything used often in there. My kids would nail that in a week. Yours is still tiny so nothing to worry about for a few years. Once they hit 3 all bets are off ;)

Very cool! Can you freely control the layout of the modules onscreen? Add spacing, margin or padding between them/against the frame?
@BreakItYourself
@BreakItYourself 2 жыл бұрын
I know for sure that you can adjust the layout with regards to the frame but between modules themselves might be harder and is outside of my knowledge. I'm sure it's possible I just don't know how. You can change margin with the overall raspberry pi OS in the display settings.

What a counterintuitive idea. You have mirrors to see reflections. People try to keep this as clear as possible. You have screens to display information and people have spent so much money to reduce glare and reflection.

I would just buy the Canakit Raspberry Pi package instead of the individual parts. They are over all cheaper, and you get all the necessary cables and even the RPi cases (some of which include a fan because the RPi does get hot with prolonged use.) They do include some other goodies for future projects. Just my opinion.

what would be amazing is if they had a two way mirror that worked like those smart glass LED windows , the ones where you can switch from transparent to opaque , so you could switch the glass from a 2 way mirror to a clear piece of glass if you just want to use the TV as normal TV i see you put a 4k chromecast in there, seems like kind of a waste otherwise i mean what could you possible use it for with the 2 way mirror besides music?

I just got a canakit (max) and I've already disassembled a monitor. I'm ready to build my 1st smart mirror, however, I'm stuck. As you know the micro sd comes pre installed with NOOBS, and I don't want/need this, correct? So am I supposed to just erase everything on it so I can start from scratch? Or do I just simply insert it in my comp and follow your steps and leave NOOBS? Or is it even possible to do that? I can't find anything online about this. I'd appreciarte any help.
