New project!! We will be building out a 2021 Dodge Promaster 2500 159 inch wheel base van and turning it into a beautiful tiny home on wheels.
I have built a sailboat, a dinghy, two teardrops and an RV. What better way to combine all builds into one, than to build out a van and enjoy many travels! Journey with me as I put my skills to the test and turn an ordinary cargo van into a luxurious dwelling place on wheels!
We will compliment this van with a full size bed, bench seating for two, running water, full electric, propane cooking appliances, lights throughout, outside shower, and top it off with solar power to run everything. And to add that extra flare… we will do it in BATMAN style!
I hope to see you until the end when we will do a complete tour of the finished van. I hope you like it!
Thanks for staying tuned and watching the videos… now, let’s get started

As everyone seems to be saying, and as you have noticed, the MAXX seems better than the Fantastic. A second "negative" of the exterior roof spacer, but for inside, would be, in theory, perhaps another way to deal with the roof ribbing on the inside of the van. If you had notched your wood ring, that might have also been another way. But your solution with the extra small pieces on the edges worked out just fine. Great video!

Hey Al! I can definitely relate to getting older and being leary of heights. I was in the trucking industry for 38 years, running OTR cross country, with flatbeds (and other related trailers) the last 30 of the 38. It got to be a real pain trying to roll out 200 pound tarps on my knees [bc of developing a fear of heights in my later years] and in 2015 I decided it was time to retire! Realizing my incapabilities was hard to swallow but I’m glad I dealt with it in the right way by retiring! I haven’t missed trucking at all but I miss the open road and traveling tremendously…hence, is why I’m planning on going full time to live out the rest of my life SOON hopefully…in MY future Pleasureway Lexor on a Promaster 2500 159! Great video!..I’m off to watch the next one in my binge-watching mode! Stay safe! ~Jim~

My dad is 88 and he did my two fans on my high roof Promaster. I was just scared being on the ladder handing him tools but you’re right - drilling holes into your van can’t compare to the feeling being on top of the roof (and we still got a roof rack to install for solar😫). Thanks for the tutorial, it really helped!

One more thing to cross off the list of many. I put the same Maxx air fan in my teardrop five years ago and love it, But I'm still figuring out the remote. In my second teardrop I went with out the remote.

Yep, great video Al! Those CNC machined fan spacers are really the way to go! Too bad, I was expecting your bowing problem while watching the video since the metal roof was not totally supported everywhere; some people also install little wood shims under each and every metal crests.

@Jack Jack No doubt... I think these are 3D printed. It was a little on the expensive side for just the one... looking back, I should have notched the wood to shape on the inside and made my own van sandwich! :)

The maxxair fans are so awesome, I have the non deluxe version so no auto open and no remote but I love how much air they move. It's great you have two on it so you can get a good cross breeze, wonder how well it would work if both were on and windows were open?

@OregonBatman : You're awesome. Great build series. I have a question, do you feel like 2 fans is the best way to go? I am on the debate of doing two rear bunk windows and one front exhaust Maxxair Fan. What do you think? Why did you go with two roof fans?
@OregonBatman
@OregonBatman 2 жыл бұрын
Great question Lucas! I went with two fans because I do not have windows (that open) in the van, so I knew I needed good cross ventilation from front to rear. IF I had the two rear bunk windows, I would have opted for just one fan in the front. This way, a deck could be built on top of the van, and still have great ventilation inside. I like your idea... two windows and one fan. Hope that helps some! Thanks for checking it out!Happy Building!

Great project. What is that adapter made of? Could you use another one on the inside? Solid enough to screw into?
@OregonBatman
@OregonBatman 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Bill! I think this is a 3D printed part, would have loved to had one for the inside but that part wasn't made available. Strong enough to take a fastener. Kind of expensive though. Looking back, I should have notched the wood on the inside to fit, that would have been a good option.

THIS IS AWESOME. Question, how did you measure out the wooden ring? Hoping to do the same. How thick were the wooden strips when purchased and what was the length you cut them? sorry if this sounds dumb im just a super rookie and wanna get it righttt
@OregonBatman
@OregonBatman 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Jessica! Great question girl! Sooooo..... the cutout for your fan is typically 14" x 14". I made the inside dimension of the rings 14-1/8" x 14-1/8". Each stick is a 1 x 2 (3/4" x 1-1/2"). I cut eight pieces at 15-5/8". (This part is hard to describe, but...) You are going to make a square, lay one piece on the floor (to the left of ya and pointing away) then next piece butts up to to that piece at top (side to side). Next piece butts up to that one at top and points towards you, then bottom piece butts up to that one and the first piece you laid down (you should have a square). The next pieces are glued on top of the square you just made, but change it around so the sticks overlap the joints on the first square.... when you are done, you will have a ring that is 1-1/2" thick and measures 17-1/8" outside to outside. The inside dimensions should be 14-1/8". MAN.... I hope I explained that right. :) Thanks for checking it out! Happy Building!

I've watched about 7 full episodes so far and have to say your series has been great! You're the first person I've seen use putty tape with the rear fan adapter. Any reason why you chose not to use adhesive between the adapter and the van like everyone else? Have you had any issues with the putty yet? I'm getting ready to install my rear fan this week and am wondering if I should just skip the adhesive and use the butyl tape I already have on hand. I had already purchased 3M windows weld for the roof adapter.

Thanks SoCal! No particular reason I used putty tape over adhesive... I just happened to have a lot of the pautty tape on hand. I still have to seal with Dicor but it has been holding up very well so far!

Howdy... the fan in its closed position is approximately 5" above the van roof, with the adapter it is about 5-1/2" closed. About 9-1/2" open. Hope that helps

I thought I had all the required extras to do this but now I'm second guessing the Dicor butyl tape after you said it leaves black marks from rain. I never heard or seen anyone use putty tape. No problem! Appreciate the feedback. Not installing any windows in the back so having those two fans will help a lot moving air around. The back one can be set to draw air in and the front to draw air out and hoping to create a nice cross breeze over the bed at night.

Watch a few of his videos and you'll see why Dicor is NOT the answer. Almost ALL of the repairs he does are caused by Dicor leaks.
