The RK1 is a sweet shooting bow. With nearly a year of shooting it, it is more than time to upload a review on this bow. My RK1 was provided by New Breed in 50 pound recurve limbs, though other limb styles and weights are available. To my knowledge, this is the first time that a traditional bow company and a compound company have teamed up to co-brand a bow. It makes sense, as neither one of them has to reinvent the wheel. Striker gets an aluminum riser option for their takedowns, and New Breed gets to add a recurve to their lineup.

Looks like a pretty nice bow. I would buy one if it wasn't so expensive.

Well done review, Thank you! I like what the aluminum riser has to offer and the Striker looks like a great bow. Love the tee-shirt! You have a new subscription from the Detroit Lakes Minn. area. Peace, DB

Love your channel. Super helpful videos. Waiting on that Wild Edge Stepps review you said was coming soon. I'm close to buying a set but want to see your take on them first. When I got the notification for this video I was initially psyched... only to be bummed with the topic. Not your fault I'm not a trad bow guy. Anyway, keep up the great work. I've learned so much from your videos and appreciate all you do.

Don't worry, I have quite a few things on the review list, but the Wild Edge steps should be next up.

Cool. I'm pretty sure they are the right direction for me with or without a saddle (might be heading in that direction also). Unless you chime in and say they aren't worth it. I've been a climbing stand user most of the way and tried sticks this last year (tired of searching for the right tree) and didn't like it. Too heavy and bulky when combined wth a hang on stand.

Great review Garrett! I hope to see you take some game this year with that beautiful bow. As a traditional hunter I can really appreciate that throughout the ages bowyers and hunters have always adapted to better technology, but we can also truly appreciate the stunning craftsmanship of a wooden/laminated bow.

I am looking at getting one of new breeds compounds even though I’m technically a 31” draw I’m thinking about going with a 30.5” draw in the BX32 short axle to axle custom color and super quiet from what I’ve read. Not a bad deal for $900 plus it should be a bow I can use for many many years with care so worth the extra cost compared to a Walmart now lol best of luck preparing for the 2019 year ps because of your videos through the hunting public I’m also going to work in the saddle hunting method too. Thanks and be safe!

Ouch, I didn’t realize good recurves and longbows were so pricy. They are about as much as a compound these days. It looks like a sweet bow though.

Isaac Barnett not all are. You can get some really great recurves under 6-700 dollars. This is like the yeti cooler of recurves lol theyre nice but the price is inflated.

If you could, i would like you to try out and review an inexpensive bow for me. Ive been shooting a couple hoyts over the years .A Gamemaster and a Bullalo. Both great bows and took first in quite a few 3d tournaments. Due to shoulder injuries ans age i have lowered my weight and ordered a Mandarin Duck 56" Phantom bow. I have a 31" draw and this little 56" 35lb bow is 45lbs at my draw. Just took first place in 2 3d shoots this spring. This is an 80.oo bow on Amazon and is quieter than my Hoyts as well.

Great vid. I have the same draw and would like to know your arrow set up for the RK1? Also, have you had a chance to chrono test? Do you feel the 50# is affective for hunting? I’m trying to figure out if I want a heavier limbs. Thanks

I have a few different arrow setups. Right now my hunting arrows are VAP 400 with Stainless outserts and 200 grain heads. 50 pounds is plenty for hunting with the right arrow mass and broadhead choice.

Love Striker bows. That collaboration with New Breed looks top of the food chain. I've shot strikers with both the recurve and the longbow limbs. Personally, the longbow limbs are the ticket. Please can you tell me what rest that was you mounted in this video? Nice upload (and the channel is excellent) subscribing was easy decision.

I like everything about this bow except the grip. Having been shooting recurves for over 60 years I just don't like the low wrist grips, but everything else is perfect including the longbow limbs. Is there any other grip option? Thanks, Kelly
@DIYSportsman
@DIYSportsman 3 жыл бұрын
No, but on many bows you can build up grips using Instamorph or epoxy putty. Jake Kaminski has a video on his channel showing how he modifies the grips on his Olympic recurves that way.

@@DIYSportsman I already use metal handled recurves, ie. Bear TD with either 60" or 56" lengths. But what I don't have with the metal handled Bear TD are longbow limbs, which I feel are smoother to draw and definitely quieter upon release, plus less susceptible to torque. I have a wood handled takedown longbow with recurve style grip that I really love. It is 60" but does not have the stabilizer bushing and I think not enough wood where I need to place one. That is why I liked everything about the RK-1 except the grip. Believe it is lighter in mass weight than either my metal handled Bear TD or my wood handled TD longbow. I think using the method you mention above about building up the grip would be difficult to get it where I like it-that is a medium wrist grip. Thanks for great videos.

You could build up your own custom grip using instamorph or epoxy putty and shape it however you'd like to suit your preference (high/medium etc - Jake Kaminski has a video on how to do this). That narrow grip is probably one of my favorite features on the bow. It's so much easier to get a consistent, low torque grip compared to some of the wider or more contoured styles I've tried.

@@DIYSportsman it's a good point. Just personal preference...the thin style grips are one of the things I dislike the most about compound bows. Different folks different strokes. Great review though.

I've posted and will continue to post every deer hunting video I feel has enough content to be post-worthy. Last year I only shot one deer so there wasn't a lot of footage to make into videos, unless I start doing more vlog/season update style videos.

whats the name of the rest and stabilizer on your Striker?
@DIYSportsman
@DIYSportsman 5 жыл бұрын
The stabilizer is a Limbsaver S Coil mini. It doesn't really stabilize at that length but soaks up a little vibration and holds the wrist sling on. The rest is a springy rest from Pat Norris Archery with a small piece of teflon heat shrink on the spring.

@@DIYSportsman thanks mate, do you think that there're better options for a stabalizer? Greetings from germany
@DIYSportsman
@DIYSportsman 5 жыл бұрын
@@Shiwwy It depends on what you're looking for. If you want to steady your aim, you will need something longer. I'd recommend 12"+, and ever longer if you just want to do target archery (the long stabilizers get hard to maneuver for hunting). If you are just looking to reduce a little vibration at the shot, the little limbsaver does fine.
