@jyoung9434 Жыл бұрын
Great simple presentation! I would add that if your refrigerator is not very new or if it's been an excessively long time since the water filter was replaced, have some old towels and paper towels at the ready. The filter cartridge might have a hard time releasing when the button is pressed, or the new cartridge might have difficulty engaging when it is pushed into place. When this happens make sure it is aligned correctly (lettering and #3 on filter pointing straight up) and push extra hard. If it is only partially (but not fully) engaged, the button to the left will not pop-out and a large puddle may emerge from under the fridge.

A few additional items that I keep on my checklist: 1. Flip up the 'full' detector in your icemaker to prevent any water from the new filter getting into your ice before it's flushed. 2. Flush 4-5 gallons of water through the filter before using it. Water straight out of an unflushed filter is not safe to drink. 3. While you're down there with the filter... Pull off the lower skirt where the filter is, and vacuum the coils under the fridge. Dust impedes its efficiency.

@DIYwithMichaelBorders Жыл бұрын
Good morning, we are drinking our morning coffee answering any and all questions for the DIY community. This is more common than you think. Most people have shared that by adding a bit more inward pressure on release-button may be all it needs. If the filter currently installed is not the perfect compatible replacement size, it may be jammed and will need that extra friendly pull.
@NJ-xyz13 Жыл бұрын
@@DIYwithMichaelBorders Thank you for responding to my post -- I have tried, but it didn't do anything. @DIYwithMichaelBorders Жыл бұрын
@@NJ-xyz13 Thanks for the follow up, we recommend contacting both a local plumber as well as a local Whirlpool technician to get a few quotes. @@DIYwithMichaelBorders Hi Michael -- I forgot to ask one more thing -- how much is reasonable and how much is too expensive then???
@DIYwithMichaelBorders Жыл бұрын
@@NJ-xyz13 Thanks for the reply, are you referring to amount of inward pressure on button or filter price? Inward pressure limits are tough because you want to get it out…but also not damage anything. Filters on average cost between $30-$60. Thanks for watching & sharing your experience. This can happen when your internal valves get stuck. Once filter is pulled out, the valves should close to not allow water to leak out. @DIYwithMichaelBorders Жыл бұрын
@@kitkatj1958 Hey what’s up, a special thanks to you for taking the time out of your Thursday afternoon to share this comment, it means the world to us. It’s normal for a new filter to have an ever-so-slightly less flow of water. This is because a brand new filter needs to be broken-in a bit. However, if it’s been a day or two, and you are still experiencing slow water flow, that’s not normal. Did you install the exact same replacement model filter as was previously installed? If water shutoff valve was closed, ensure it is now in the full open position. 😎👍

You really don’t need the filter cap at all so you’ll still hear the click without it, the only purpose of the cap is for making it easy to remove the water filter. Just press the eject button down all the way and pull the filter out. If it’s stuck then you might need to hold the button down while you’re trying to pull the filter out, you could also try using pliers or a screwdriver to try and get a grip on it.

@@callofdutycrazyfreak I have the same problem, the cap won't fit on the filter to even allow me to get a good pull on it, and the button won't push in at all. I take a screwdriver and push the filter to the side and the button then pops out fully, but when I push it in, it is pushing against a piece of plastic on the filter and won't go beyond that. I have the right filter for my whirlpool, it's a hassle. Can you do a video on a stuck filter, or at least show us up close what it looks like when the button is pushed in vs when the button is popped out so we can see how it is pushing in, if we have to push harder to go against the piece of plastic on the filter? I don't have that strength to push it any farther. Thank you.

What do you do if the fridge doesn’t release the filter with that eject button? I just bought a house and it has a Whirlpool fridge similar to that and pushing that button does nothing and the filter cap is non-existent
@DIYwithMichaelBorders2 жыл бұрын
Hey Chrystal, congrats on the new house. Two thoughts. 1. It’s possible that the button needs to be pressed a little firmly. 2. The filter itself is not inserted properly and may be stuck not allowing the eject push button to work. Keep us posted. Us fellow DIY’ers need to stick together! 😎👍🔧🔩

@@DIYwithMichaelBorders yup, I tried again and jiggled a few things around and it came out! Upside is it’s the filter number I assumed it was, downside is it’s expensive to replace every 3? One thing not mentioned after you install the new filter you have to purge out the new filter to remove all the air....Use a largest glass you can get into the water dispenser and get some water it'll pop a lot of air make note to turn the water off at a half glass of water. Sometimes even though you stopped filling the glass the air and water will continue for up to 5 more seconds over filling the glass if you turn it off at the full glass level...The water might be black and nasty at first purge out 5 - 10 cups till the flow is smooth and clean. Then push in your reset button 5 times rapidly to reset change filter light. While your in the mood take off the lower black foot guard around the filter and clean out your Cooling lines for the chiller section below. By keeping this area clean your refrigerator will get cooler faster and save the life of the compressor and safe on your power bill also. I do not have the black cap for my filter and I always push the button in and have to tenderly take a screw driver flat head and lightly pry out the filter....

DO not throw away the old filter until you check to see if the new filter replacement works, Just purchased /just attempted to change old filter for new and the new one didn't work. It would only work if you held / pushed in on the new filter. Double checked the part numbers and the Whirlpool number 4396841 Everydrop Equivalent number EDR3RXD1

Thanks for watching and we have seen this in the past. In most cases, there is debris stuck inside the housing where the filter prongs feed into. This can be buildup of grime or any type of sediments that have been in the water over the years passing through filter and lines. Removing the filter and cleaning the internal housing where the filter secures into may go a long way.

@@wisewumman Thanks for the reply. By chance did the filters sit outside in cold weather momentarily prior to being installed. Just like new reverse osmosis filters, cold-weather can destroy the filters and membrane which leads to them being faulty before ever been installed for the first time.
