This video is mostly a "through the scope" look at the reticle, although it also gives you some idea of the depth of field.
The discussion of the reticle illumination starts at the 7 minute mark.

Awesome job! Very helpful to see how it looks throughout the zoom range. Glad to see it the windage "fill out" the scope at 18x.

Thank you for the solid review, I've been looking for a scope to put on a 300 Win Mag rifle I just bought. This is one of the several I've been interested in to use for a Western US Elk hunt. I've also been looking at the Zeiss Conquest V6 3-18x50, the Nightforce NX8 2.5-20x50, and the VX-5HD 4-20X52 CDS-ZL2. Have you had a chance to look through any of these? Are there any others I should consider in the $1,200-$2,000 range?

Are you looking for FFP or SFP? For this kind of application, my sorta standard recommendation is Vortex Razor HD-LHT 3-15x is you want SFP or Razor HD-LHT 4.5-22x50 if you want FFP. The light weight, to me, is a big deal on a mountain rifle. If you are comfortable with a bit more weight, that opens things up somewhat. I have very limited mileage with the V8. VX-5HD is a good scope. NX8 is not my thing, but the 4-32x is the better one of the line.

Nice video Ilya. Just got one of these in mounted in a spuhr hunting mount. Great glass however the mag ring is extremely tight. The diopter also doesnt seem to change much when adjusting, vurtually whole range is crisp. Weird? Notice the same thing? It has the same illumination bleed the gen 3 razor does, but not a big deal. Love the simple illunination for low light close in stuff.
@DarkLordOfOptics
@DarkLordOfOptics 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks. The diopter adjusts fairly slowly, so you have to take your time messing with it. Was the mag ring tight before you installed the mount? There is a reason I do not use Spuhr mounts. As far as the illumination goes, all etch-and-fill illuminated scopes have reticle bleed if the illumination is set too bright for the conditions. The only way to not have that is to throttle down the brightness. That is not a problem at night, but in dusk/dawn conditions, you do need it to be a little brighter.
@aceventura3552

@@DarkLordOfOptics Thanks for the quick response. Yes the mag ring was tight before i installed it. Only 18inlbs per screw via borka. Using one of the spuhr hunting tikka direct mounts. Its one of the tighest mag rings i have ever used, and have owned most optics in last 20 years. ( compete with zco, lrhs/ts on hunting rigs, gen 2 razors. Owned PM2, DMR, PH525, kahles, Atacr, steiner m series,ect.) Hopefully mkm makes a throw lever for it.

Thanks for great video. Is the illumination in lowest or brightest mode in 9:02 ? Just wondering is illumination bright enought to shoot dark elements in daylight in lowest zoom. If it´s in low power it shoud be bright enough.
@DarkLordOfOptics
@DarkLordOfOptics 2 жыл бұрын
Illumination on this scope is really designed for low light and I think I only had it on highest brightness once. If memory serves me right, it was somewhat helpful on low power against dark background targets during the day. Next time I have the scope out, I'll take a closer look.

If you were me and you could get a brand new Vortex LHT 4.5-22 or a used Nightforce atacr 4-16 F1 Mil XT for almost the same price which would you choose? Its going on a Springfield waypoint 6.5 creedmoor. I know the atacr is geared more towards a gas gun setup. Will be used for hunting and long range 1000 and in ranges.
@DarkLordOfOptics
@DarkLordOfOptics Жыл бұрын
That depends on your weight budget and magnification preferences. I use the LHT 4.5-22x50 on my primary hunting rifle because I am counting ounces and it is a perfect fit there. However, if I already had the 4-16x42 ATACR, I would be in no rush to replace it. ATACR is probably a better scope on balance. Mil-XT is a little busier than I'd like on a hunting rifle. XLR-2 is a better fit there. I do like the turrets on the ATACR more. If you are a dialer, I'd lean toward the ATACR for the same money, as long as a few more ounces of weight are OK with you.

nice and competent point of view. what does the diameter say about the incidence of light? If a 70mm was not a problem in the field, this would be the optimal diameter for a rifle scope. 50 mm diameter is so yesterday ........
@DarkLordOfOptics
@DarkLordOfOptics 2 жыл бұрын
I am not 100% sure what you mean. There have only been a couple of scopes with 70mm objectives and while very nice in low light, they are definitely not lightweights. Even with that low light performance, they did not exactly set the world on fire, given that I think all have been discontinued.

@@DarkLordOfOptics if you only shoot on 800 m max. and only at daylight, a scope like this will be fine. let's test it on 2300 meter in the midle of a starless night. ;)

@DarkLordOfOptics 2 жыл бұрын
@@smrettpecca Your argument is at best disingenuous, and that is being kinda charitable. The "2300 at night" is particularly silly version of the classic strawman argument: complaining that this product is not optimal for doing something it was never designed to do. Beyond that though, the 800meter statement basically means that you do not know how to use a ballistic calculator. This is a crossover scope designed for medium to long range hunting and precision shooting out to the edge of supersonic distance with common cartridges ranging from 308 and 6.5CM to 6.5PRC and similar. It sits on my 308 and where I live it works fine out to about 1200 yards with this cartridge. With 6.5PRC at the same altitude it has enough adjustment to 1450.

what you didn't show is what it looks like with illumination at its brightest at the lowest magnification. In other words... can you use it like an ACOG with the binden aiming concept to make fast shots at 100 yards and in.... say... if a hungry grizzly bear is charging you ?

@@rascalmatt6713 I've had it longer than just about anyone. It was my scope of the year for 2021. I do shoot a good bit with it offhand unsupported and it does not give me any problems on 4.5x. The way the illumination is done it basically looks like an illuminated crosshair. To use Byndon aiming concept properly, you need to have a smaller and brighter illuminated area. That having been said, I have played with it as an OEG with the objective cap closed and that works surprisingly well for me. Still, if I wanted to really go fast at close range distances, I would simply put an offset red dot sight on it. That's how several of my ARs are setup and you can be quite proficient with it after a little practice.

Im trying to decide on 3 scopes for a 308 hunting/precision rifle. Help me out here: Razor LHT 4.5-22-50 illuminated FFP Leupold Mark 5HD 3.6-18x44 non illuminated FFP Nightforce NX8 2.5-20x50 illuminated SFP (I prefer SFP over FFP and this is the only option for that, but Id be perfectly fine with FFP in any of them)

I dislike the NX8 2.5-20x50. Honestly, I think all the NX8 scopes are a bit weak. I like th ATACR scopes quite a bit, but NX8 does not do anything for me. Razor LHT 4.5-22x50 is probably my favourite crossover scope at the moment this side of Tangent Theta. I have two primary hunting rifles and one has the LHT and another has the Tangent. With the Mark5, I kinda like the 3.6-18x44 for its compactness and good overall quality, but I really prefer scopes like this to be illuminated. Nexus Element 5-20x50 should also be on your list.

@@DarkLordOfOptics The problem with the razor LHT is the elevation is reduced to 27 moa when you use their zero stop. that makes longer range shots impossible.
@DarkLordOfOptics
@DarkLordOfOptics 2 жыл бұрын
@@Regal2800 If you are trying to go really far, it is not the right scope, although it sits on my 308 and 11.5 mrad of available adjustment take it well past 1000yards where I live. I have made longer shots successfully by maxing out elevation and then using the reticle for additional holdover. Still, if you need more elevation than that, it is not an ideal design.
