I was shit scared until I got a ad about a children’s math game

I was watching this at 12 am in a dark room alone. Then my phone goes off. An unknown number. I ignored it. Then it went off again. In a shakey voice I said, hello? It was Kevin reminding me about my cars warranty.

I'm a year late to this party, but for anyone interested; the call recorded at 9:30 is actually a numbers station that is still in use today, formerly known as UVB-76, or "the buzzer." That tone plays on repeat, just as it does in the call. About once or twice a year, the buzzer stops in order for someone to list the call sign of the station as well as give numbers. UVB-76 is currently thought to be used for military training in Russia. Sometimes the buzzer breaks and you can only manage to hear static or silence, but since the station is still currently active, you can easily listen to a live stream of the audio (that won't result in a bunch of spam calls.) It's creepy, but it's very interesting.

I've heard similar story of this happen to my home country Myanmar. It is around 2010 to 2014, I can't recall the exact date since I was like 12 years old at that time. It is not just random gossip the whole country even the news got involve in it where more than 10 people from different location in the country had died and one thing they all had in common was that they were in call with a similar number on the phone, some news even said some of the victim were still in call when they find out the victim and they could not hear anything. Some people as u know in south east asian say it is a work of ghost or revenge form the spirit world. That story stick to me even to this day everytime I see old wire phone I'll recall this incident or memory.

4chan is basically the hero AND villain of every internet story.

I wonder if those thousands of cell phones were possibly phones taken off of human trafficking victims and were dumped there temporarily by a trafficking ring to avoid police finding them in a raid. Having someone else's phone on you is a smoking gun that says you were the last person with them. Considering how many people go missing each year, it would not be that far fetched to think that those phones could be linked to a crime like that. Many were broken looking, like someone tried to make them unusable before dumping them. I have no idea how/why those phones would be used in this calling scam/ring, but I have a hunch they are a by product of another crime. They could also be phones invented for bomb purposes, but most likely the answer is something stupid/mundane. Perhaps they were old phones dumped at a recycling/collection center and the operators of said recycling center tried to illegally dispose of the phones by dumping them in random bushes in remote locations. It's similar to serial killers that dismember and scatter the remains in the hopes it won't be traced back to them. It's the same mentality with illegally dumping hazardous/environmentally toxic materials. If they had dumped a bunch of bags of old phones there, they would have been found much sooner. I could be completely wrong, just trying to offer rational, non malevolent theories.

I grew up in a town neighboring the San Bernardino mountains, lots of weird stuff goes on, and in secluded parts like you were in?? definitely very eerie. Weirdly I didn’t have this phone number thing happen to me, but around this same time frame I used to get emails from different sites alerting me of “suspicious activity” and someone remotely signing into different accounts of mine… The sites would send these emails like “we got an alert that you signed into your account at this location, was that you?” But it wasn’t! And when I searched the IP address it looked like it was coming from a similar area, just nestled against the San Bernardino mountains away from any houses… I wonder if this is connected in any way…

There were 900 missed calls in under 11 minutes My mom:seriously, that insanely low

The audio of the second recorded call sounds like something you would hear if tuned into a particular frequency. I am talking about an old radio tower stemming from cold war era USSR (I think), I believe the radio community nicknamed it "The Buzzard". When you were able to tune into it's frequency you could a hear an intermittent buzz every few seconds (Hench the name, "Buzzard") and at some point in time someone even heard what could only be described as people when they tuned into it's frequency but that is a mystery for another time all together.

Weirdly enough, I have had several different calls sent to me by different numbers, all either referring to me as another person or saying we were old friends, often with that noise in the background. Strange.

This is actually terrifying. The sounds of the call scared the life out of me.

I’m actually extremely local to this spot where the pin was dropped, I go up there to off-road, take pictures, everything all the time (AT NIGHT TOO) Definitely freaked out to even go up there now

My guess is that whoever was behind the calls copied the hardware-IDs from the old phones (or removed the antenna circuits) and used these to perform phone spam attacks. Why they would do that is beyond me, but by the frequency of calls and the fact that the calls sound like you're calling a fax machine I'd guess that the calls were meant for a computer rather than a phone. My personal theory is that it was some kind of (D)DoS attack on dial-up modems, but I'm not sure if that's actually a thing. It definitely sounds like the entire thing is not being used as intended. (Maybe someone smarter than me could feed the calls through a dial up modems and analyze the output?)

Numbers stations are generally coded messages sent to spies - a "hiding in plain sight" approach which works well with one-time pad coding mechanisms (in which the actual cipher changes from message to message - you securely dispose of the previous code sheet once it's been used as you'll never need it again) since the routing of a radio broadcast on the publicly-accessible shortwave band begins and ends with transmitter location and (if applicable) what direction that transmitter faces. While associated with the cold war, there are still some in use today. Down in at least Louisiana you can regularly hear one coming out of Cuba. The most famous one is the UK's long-defunct "Lincolnshire Poacher" station, nicknamed after the song exerpted for its interval signal. Listen to it and many others on the Conet Project, a collection of numbers stations, jamming signals, and other such radio oddities.

Oh god, this honestly scared me when It popped up on my recommended. Something like this happened to me awhile ago while I was walking to work. This guy across the street started yelling at me, and I couldn't really tell what he was saying, at first. I thought it was something serious, so I stopped and listened, but then he hugged me and immediately started urging me to give him my number because "we knew each other in highschool" and kept asking if I needed a ride anywhere cuz he wasn't busy. He wouldn't let me get a word in, so I had to speak a bit loud. I told him that's not even possible because I was home schooled by my parents during my highschool years. He just got silent and stared at me, then walked away. He walked past the car which he claimed was his, so he was probably trying to lure me into something else. I watched him to see where he was going, then immediately crossed the street and called my sister to give me a ride. It was so fucking terrifying, and I've been traumatized about it for awhile.

Id like to propose a theory, perhaps the redditor who posted about the phones was the one who did everything? They were disappointed the situation they set up faded into obscurity, so they tried to revive it and expand the mystery.

The second recording with the creepy long beeps, were in fact probably from the UVB-76 or some other radio stations that transmit these as sort of showing if the connection to radios are stable or not, sometimes they would play old music you would hear because it is a radio. Some old people still would tune in the radio frequency 4625Khz.

This definitely feels like a failed ARG. The whole numbers being lead to coordinates is very ARGy, and anyone who's participated in one will know this is the kind of start that they do and the reddit post is probably the runner of the ARG trying to keep it running/rebooting it but it never got any attraction. I guess the next part of the game was to pick up and use the phones. Its either that or someone deliberately trying to make a spooky mystery that people would talk about but when not many people did (he was probably the 4chan guy too) he went and did it himself on Reddit. Either way I think the reddit user is also the person who was doing it.
