This isn't scary or spooky. It is simply heartbreaking. A man who lost everything and lost his mind. No family to care for him and no one to get him the proper treatment he desperately needs. It truly hurts my heart to see the mentally ill not just suffer but suffer alone and abandoned by their family, friends, and society. So sad.

I know it has already been clarified in the video, but I just wanna really push the fact that the reason this man let us record and get on his property is because he wants people to know the story of what happened and how it affected his mental health. At his request, we did not film his face and wanted the focus on what he said and why the house is the way it is.

Yes Mental health especially in Japan it seems is a very underappreciated or discussed topic so thank you for shedding a bit of light on it. With any luck there will be improvement there soon thanks to your & others' exposure. Side note. The audio on the recording & your VO is very very soft. I had to crank my sound to where I got white noise feed back to barely make out your voice & words. Several of your last few videos have been hit or miss in the same way.

To answer your question regarding Google Street View blurring the graffiti house, all one has to do anywhere in the world to have Google blur out their house, is submit a request to Google. Once they receive the request, Google will honor it, although it can take a few weeks for all the servers globally to be updated. In the US, it doesn't even have to be the homeowner themselves who requests the blurring. There are several HOAs (including the one where my sister lives) where the property is on a public road, and yet the HOA will ask that Google and Apple blur the images.

(with that I don't mean that he could harm someone but rather that if he sees one wrong thing his mental state might even get worse) Why ofc he could've also asked a few lokals around the village with acces to the internet to do it for him but Im also pretty sure that by some of the things that are written on the house PLUS the ''bloody'' shirt google might have just done it by themselves.

I'm really surprised his community lets him live like that, I feel like at that point someone (his neighbors, community leaders, etc) should organize something to help him at least make the home safely habitable with repairs. I think we as community members have a responsibility towards the most vulnerable in our group, and this man is obviously vulnerable. I might be wrong but I got the impression that he felt like the house was being "attacked" because it was deteriorating so badly, and I could see it making someone with mental health issues feel like it's happening on purpose.

Hi Aki! The way you describe him makes me think he could be schizophrenic or psychotic. I've witnessed psychotic person's behavior before myself. I'm not sure how the mental health services work in Japan, but if there is a possibility to make report to the hospital/police that you're worried about him, I think you really should (so they go check him out). Psychosis and severe depression are crisis situation, and the person doesn't always seek help themselves even if it was best for them. Love your vids, keep up the good work! ❤

The hard part would be helping the guy on terms that are acceptable to him. Imposing too much to "help" can be seen as a form of harassment too, which may be the root of some of the threatening language painted on those walls. Some aspects of the story, I think he may have dirt on someone with local political ties. And their campaign of harassment to drive him out may be the cause of some of this. He may have started half-crazy with some issue or other, but if he's seen as gone off the deep end - then his word on some issues may lose any standing despite having truth to them.

My mum has paranoid schizophrenia and she spray painted around her house and on the outside similar to this before I was able to get her mental help. I believe it’s because what they’re seeing is so real that they feel the need to ward off the dangerous people that are going to attack them at any given moment. She would yell out around her property and shout at planes flying over. It’s a very serious mental disability which I hope this man can get help with from Japanese mental health services. There is also an increased risk of mental disorders, and there is growing evidence that EDS is linked to depression, eating disorders, and neuro-developmental disorders. Ooo... I've spoken to people who speak that way and you mentioned a schizophrenia diagnosis. There are multiple different types of conditions witin the schizotypal, or schizophrenic, disorder spectrum. The speech pattern mixed with the gregarious nature/desire to communicate and openness rings so clear for the disorganized schizophrenic speech that its almost textbook. Depending on the degree to which one has the condition, they may experience an inability to keep track of not only where but WHEN they are. Often, those I spoke to would speak of people who died as if they were still alive and dead at the same time in the same sentence, for example, and as a result the sentence would be fragmented into parts of one and the other. It's a little scary for some people, but I HEAVILY encourage people to NOT flee when someone begins to speak to you this way! This man could be very lonely - disorganize schizophrenia is particularly isolating as it stops you from even being able to hold conversations with most people, because most people cannot follow them and get scared at the clear differences in cognition. Frankly, most people are scared of people who speak this way because it reminds them that they are only "functioning normally" (ew to that wording) because they DON'T have "whatever is wrong" with the person. Speaking with people who have conditions like these is important - please always try your hardest to speak to them with respect and kindness as you would anyone else. They can see and understand when they make people scared, and they do KNOW they are isolated and why. They just struggle to keep track of things and to communicate clearly (reducing for explanation - of course all conditions of the mind are complex). I felt sad seeing this, because it reminds me how far we still have to go in understanding mental health globally. It's like how people with dementia get treated, but even less talked about or understood or sympathized with. People will hear schizophrenia and, even as DOCTORS, they will react with fear! It's very, very sad... I wish the best to that man and hope that he is alright in his living conditions. I would hope that someone checks in on him there from time to time, at least. *_Thank you, Aki, for looking back into it and going back when you found the man to be welcoming to strangers! Sharing this is important, it teaches people that even when something is scary, with more knowledge and some effort you can overcome it and learn something new!_*

In Hachioji, there is (maybe was by now) a house where a woman and her adult son were murdered. It is along a well traveled route and I drove by it the day after the bodies were found. There was a car in the carport and police tape around the scene, but oddly no police even so close to the event. I used this road many times between 1997 (which is when I believe they were killed) thru 2019. The home was still there unchanged. Car and police tape still there and I never heard if they caught a culprit(s). Finally, the road was improved over the years but not at the point where that house was, so instead of it being a rather straight route, there was this sort “crank” around the property.

I myself have struggled with mental health before, though I’ve never dealt with pairanoia just suicidal stuff and depression. It’s really hard to go through, especially by yourself and the issue is these health problems make you isolate yourself, pushing anyone who could help you away. A lot of people who experience schizophrenia know that what they are experiencing aren't real. My training has always been not to feed into their hallucinations but to focus on their feelings towards what they are experiencing. I've had someone tell me that the devil killed their mother and was coming after them next because they are a werewolf. And yes that was the conversation. So I respond with "and you're feeling afraid. You are safe. Why don't we go to another room"

This is scary and heartbreaking to watch. A man that put his work and effort into his career then not only lost everything but himself and his mind as well. While now trying to live alone and pick up whatever pieces he has left to provide for himself to survive. I'm glad that he at least physically seems ok. I just hope things stay that way for em in the long run.

Lol I was about to say "instead of walking away tell the man you stopped to read all the writing, ask the man about the house and writing because anyone who has done this (written all over the house) to a house wants his message out there and would be forth coming with answers to your questions". Thanks for doing the hard work Aki😁👍.

Honestly, after hearing the guys situation, I really wished I lived in Japan just so I could help him fix up the property. As a person who suffers from mental illness (ASPD, ODD, Schozoid personality, and ADHD), sometimes all a person really needs is someone there to listen and to actually lend a helping hand.

That poor guy, trapped by mental instability. His life has been stolen by his illness, his broken mind stripping him of relationships, of community, leaving him alone and adrift from reality. What a terrifying prospect.

Time to start a GoFundMe and make this a series. Team up with a contractor and fix his house. If every sub gave $1 you could change this man's life for the better! The money should only be held by a State Conservator after the rebuild though.

It's so sad to see the houses in that state. If I had the money I would love to go there and help him fix the places up, though I'm sure he would want the graffiti left, the insides at least could really use repair. As for sticking the finger in the eye socket and there being no blood, yes your eye sockets are just lined with flesh but are not filled with blood, you would basically have to literally cut the inside of your eye socket (or the stuff that attaches your eyeballs to your brain) to cause bleeding but sticking a finger in there won't cause it. I know this because when I was studying to be a CNA we had a student who had a prosthetic eye who showed us how to remove, insert, and clean the prosthetic eye. Still the fact that he could do it so easily like that, sounds like he had tried many times and was quite used to sticking his finger in there...

this reminds me of a house in germany thatused to be some important building in a village until its current owner started plastering signs and posters all over its walls and garden with weird, vulgar and often nonsensical slogans on it. My dad and I found it by accident but it stuck out like a sore thumb because of all of those signs. Apparently, the other people in the village this house is in often tried to make the owner stop, but they never could. We couldn't find out why he did it, or maybe I don't remember. But it was really strange to look at.

Honestly this is why I never really find Japan that exciting to go to. it has a lot of heartbreaking, depressing stories like this has. Though they try to basically hide it with vibrants and cartoons, animations etc that the internet cherishes for, It has a lot of deep stories to know. And thus I hope this man gets better soon, this is absolutely melting and giving my heart aches how this man really needs a hug.

I love anime and manga but that has to do with my love for art in general and not Japan. A country should never be idolized for it's media or public attractions and anyone who does so is a shallow dumbass living in a self deluded fantasy. The reality is that Japan is a shithole country just like every other shithole country (america included) and I knew that it was severely fucked off as soon as I started learning about karoshi in the aforementioned industries listed, and it's not just the manga and anime industry, but the workforce of japan as a whole. Why is the practice of offing yourself through the activity of overwork seen as some kind of honorable thing to do? and those who don't submit to that and keep up this shitty facade of happiness like you said are the ones seen as trash? go figure. With a culture like that is it really a big surprise that there is a massive 'hikikomori" issue? and it's not an issue at all, the way I see it it's a bunch of people who's seeing through all this matrix bullshit and is finally going "enough" and is opting out of that sewage culture. I can say a lot about how Japan needs to get it's shit together and start treating it's citizens better but then like I just stated is there any country that doesn't have a darker shitty side that it tries to mask with light and glamour? for instance. Over here in America it's supposedly this "land of the free" "democracy" 1st amendment" yada yada yada, but actually try to voice that 1st amendment freedom bullshit to ask for help and vent to a social worker about your problems and your liable to find yourself getting ignored or locked up in a mental institution if you say the wrong thing. Involuntary commitment signed by a judge and staffed with "doctors" who can keep you for as long as they want and forcing you onto psychosis medication as some sort of deal for being discharged, and then your sent out to homelessness or back to the problem. I've especially started to noticed how a lot of autistic people over here (myself included) are treated like shit if they struggle or are not able to fit in with normal society, most come from a background of abusive parents who handicapped their growth, and the "help" is all a facade for professionals to either push the mentally disabled populace off onto medication or to be used as some source of governmental income for someone else. tbf I think the essence of human nature is a pile of shit anyway so I don't think it matters where some flag is flailing over a pole as long as we think about that reality.

so the reason there wasnt any blood is actually fairly understandable. theres no blood vessels really between the eye and the inside of the socket, so someones eye can pop out without bleeding. Its not good for the individual to do though because of various different health reasons

My mother is schizophrenic and I was there when she had her mental break when I was 21 yrs old. Been caring for her for the past 27 yrs, 13 yrs by myself since the sudden death of my father from heart attack. I know the pain and frustrating of being a caregiver to someone with schizophrenia. To have no help with mental illness makes me incredibly sad for this man. even through his speech is broken up, I can make out what he is trying to say. I pray that someone, anyone tries to help him out.
