@@MegaMaxiepad Likewise, but I did wonder how much the subtitles in Francais actually helped my understanding here. I believe reading activates a different part of the brain, which in this instance seemed to reinforce my understanding, whereas English subtitles tend force a translation on what I hear thereby making it harder to follow the French.

Ça fait longtemps depuis j’étudiais le français (20!ans!) mais je trouve que ce style de vidéo est très efficace! Vous présentez plusieurs façons, plus nuancées, a dire une phrase qui pourrait être autrement un peu trop base, trop simple. Very efficient and helpful for helping someone like me, who has a pretty good foundation, but really wants to improve more natural sounding fluency. Merci bien!

J'ai appri parler français il y a 60 ams. Meme a l'age de 74, ce genre de video est utile. C'est une chose de parler français. C'est tout a fait autre choses d'avoir le français dans ses nerfs. Ca vaut la peine de faire un effort.

This is an amazing piece of advice, simply put but very wide in it’s usefulness - ultimately it is a similar practise which writers use to expres thenselves better, instead of saying “I think this or that” you choose the verb that fits best the particular activity you are doing to a higher degree of accuracy: I consider that, I feel that, I estimate that etc. This is useful for me because being a beginner I tend to look for simplicity but in fact while simplicity not bad, as Nelly says, nevertheless it is ultimately easier to be understood if you take the time to be accurate in speech - i think I tend to associate specificity with complexity and therefore with difficulty, but this video so effortlessly shows very quickly how easy it is to be specific and therefore more accurate in communication… And I could understand everything Nelly said in French even though I am relatively still a beginner, because the enunciation is clear, not slow or overemphasised but just clean (and as someone interested in audio production, as well I thought the the audio is good too).

What a great list for French language learners. I did notice that most of them could be translated in to English. Then it would be a good list for English language learners. A point about using the word honestly. When one uses it, it implies that one has not been honest up to that point. Merci !

Funny how in both English and French, saying "to be honest" is usually distancing, and perhaps the preface to some statement of criticism! I guess we all have an expectation that we won't be honest with each other and that life will flow more smoothly that way... Thanks for these "je pense que" upgrades. I'm going to give myself 10 points each time I use one of those phrases, and negative 20 each time I forget and go with "je pense que".

Life doesn't flow more smoothly when we're constantly beating around the bush. I'm Dutch and our culture is extremely direct. It makes life a lot easier when people just speak their minds. For example don't invite me over for dinner just to be nice. Say it because you actually mean to invite me to dinner. Otherwise just don't. Only ask me how I am when you actually want to know.. Give it a try. 😎 It's all about not wasting each other's time with these shenanigans.

I think oftentimes, we tell the truth to control, make fun of or to humiliate the other person instead of helping them see what's wrong so that they can correct their behavior. Of course, we can criticize if it's constructive criticism, delivered without judgement. We ended up associating truth with pain, not because the truth itself hurts, but rather because of how people have manipulated it to their own benefits. And it hurts to such an extend that we are actually uncomfortable with telling the truth directly to somebody so that they won't have to feel bad. In reality, without truth, you can't progress or make any positive change, because you first need to acknowledge where you're at before making your very next step. So, if truth makes someone feel bad, it's their responsibility to deal with and heal that pain. Anyway, if we all deny truth because it hurts, then we will all remain blind because we can't see where we are at and where we are going. All we see is our beliefs, which are obviously false since they hurt. Pain is a good mechanism feedback telling us something is wrong.
