When I was managing furnace filter manufacturing, I was always skeptical about odor filters. So yes, even though we made and sold them, I never personally tried one until now. Here is what I learned.

The problem is not that they don’t work. They work very well! The problem is that they do not work for long. Activated carbon/charcoal is so effective at grabbing VOC’s and odors that they render themselves ineffective very quickly. Literally within a couple days the carbon is full and you just have an expensive regular filter.

would a merv 8 carbon filter be better than merv 11 carbon on a " corsi rosenthal box"............. i am guessing the 8 would filter faster?

The higher the MERV the better.
