as many years athlete since young age, i would say atheltics gave me a strong muscular basics, but all athletes do gym workout as a tool to increase their strength and muscle mass. and THEN this new mass get use to coordination and speed with pliometric exercices. but the gym is the first step, pliometrics was used to increase speed as nervous system

Good advice! I had a kid who was performing 200+ reps of "plyometrics" every other day before I met him under the understanding that he would become supra-sportsman. He complained of heavy knee pain and could not go beyond a half squat... because all he did was plyometrics. That was a fun time

I don't care what anyone says. My quads only grow if I do bodyweight squats followed by jump squats. If squatting with weight being a higher load did nothing and removing the weight an adding jump squats blew my legs up then YES. YES THEY DO. It comes down to your muscle fibre types. My father was a pro athlete and a sprinter

That structure is similar or even identical to the one on construction cables. Layers of cables around thinner cables. At the end all this muscle growth and breaking the fibers is the same as studied on science of materials or fracture mechanics. The fibers, how it break, the coalescence of micro holes to expand the fracture, the minimun tension to create that state, the fatigue. Its all the same. You can break the hole thing with to much tension or you can break micro fibers with less tension over time or during a cycle of positive and negative repetitive charges because of fatigue.

Sometimes on leg day I'll do 10 jump squats, or jumps onto a plyo box, then go immediately and do squats. I'll also do them backwards sometimes where I'll squat first then do 10 jump squats immediately after. Sets your quads on fire.

I use a slam ball, shot put, and "bouncing" pushups on the bosu ball. if I do clapping pushups, at my weight, they kill my wrists and shoulders, so doing them on the Bosu ball is perfect, no more than three reps as they also trash your core.

I have a love/hate relationship with plyo as I prefer weights to any type of cardio but plyo is effective. I remember one of my coaches having me do my plyo in a football field using the stands and park benches (and other fun stuff like suicide sprints on the field). I used to do a 'nervous pee' before going to that field as I dreaded that training and I wanted to be completely empty before doing it. lol

correct - crossbridges dont stay attached during high velocity movement to generate required tension. I love it for speed strength but not for muscle hypertrophy
