An astonishing seventy percent of cancer is diet related. When it comes to treating cancer, conventional medicine is good at cutting it, burning it, and poisoning it, but many doctors fail to treat the root cause. Functional Medicine empowers patients and practitioners to optimize health by addressing the root causes of disease.
In this episode of my new Masterclass series, I am interviewed by my good friend and podcast host, Dhru Purohit, about the cancer epidemic, including the biggest cancer risks-poor diet, compromised gut health, environmental toxins, and more.
Dhru Purohit is a podcast host, serial entrepreneur, and investor in the health and wellness industry. His podcast, The Dhru Purohit Podcast, is a top 50 global health podcast with over 30+ million unique downloads. His interviews focus on the inner workings of the brain and the body and feature the brightest minds in wellness, medicine, and mindset.

Curious what your thoughts are about HPV and risk for oral cancers. Why isnt there a screening test to determine if the immune system needs additional support to avoid these types of cancers and cancers in men?

Thank you for another informative and helpful discussion! Unfortunately building that "team" and the advanced treatments are not accessible to everyone. I live in a mid-size city in NC and cannot find a Naturopathic doctor within 50 miles. We do have a Functional Medicine doc but she (as most) does not bill insurance or Medicare because they just won't cover half of what she needs to do in consultations, testing outside the box, and alternative treatments. So it's $600 cash pay for initial visit - not sure what ongoing follow-ups are. I'm thankful I am learning and hopefully prevent chronic or serious illness but the conventional doctor I last saw for lab tests waved her hands and practically did the crossed fingers at me as if my using the "F" word (Functional Medicine) was dangerous to her. She actually said "just so you know, I'm not a Functional Medicine doctor and am not going to do all that testing and all those supplements". She didn't want to do a CAC scan so I doubt she'd even know about a Galleri test or how to interpret it. So I keep my mouth shut at the Dr.s office in order to get labs done and learn as much as I can to doctor myself! I'm healthy at 67 (as far as I know, never sick or symptomatic) and have been doing Keto and IF for 3 yrs (and eating lots of garlic, onions, cruciferous, no sugars :).

Considering the vegan camp, what about anti-cancer higher carb (non-ketogenic) foods like sweet potatoes, squash, legumes like chick peas and lentils, black soy beans, tofu, oats, and modest quantities of traditional whole grains? Some of these things have been shown to be anti-cancer too…

I think rice is bad because it has a lot of arsenic. I come from a country where we eat rice on a daily basis. A lot of people where I come from do very bad with their health but not sure what is the cause. Anyway, I am interested in knowing more about cruciferous.

Unfortunately most people have the limiting belief that their cancer is *due to bad luck!* In fact this is what most oncologists will tell their patients! This in my opinion is wrong, I'm sorry but we can't control bad luck and all those medical researchers should go home *face palm*. The truth is it's more empowering to think that cancer is due to something that we have control over eg. our diet, lifestyle etc. We can't focus on the things we have no control over eg. genetics.
