i think the "creates heat" thing with the waterfall is almost accurate, actually? this is going to sound very clumsy but a solid has very slowly moving particles, and a liquid is very quickly moving. because the waterfall is moving, it can't freeze unless it's really, really fucking cold, i think. this relates to heat because heat is also very quickly moving. so i think. perhaps. in a weird, roundabout way. there's a shared quality between heat and liquid, and that's movement, that keeps the waterfall from freezing
