5MV-X35a - Do you iWoc?

I like to change the motor power (assistance) level on my Mahle X35+ ebike system with the minimum of fuss. After trying a range of approaches, I have reverted back to using the iWoc on the toptube of my Orbea Gain. In this video I explain why I have reverted back to using the iWoc and how I now use it to make changing the motor power level easy, reliable and safe.

About the 5MV channel

My name is Terry and I love cycling. I have named my channel “Five Minute Velo” (5MV). I have called it 5MV because the videos I upload will last no longer than five minutes, many will be much shorter. Each video will cover just one subject that is described in the title. Although the channel is mainly about cycling on the road, I will also cover some light (gravel) off road riding and cycle touring from time to time. No matter what, much of the advice will be pertinent to many branches of the sport/pastime.
I am new to posting videos on KZfaq (May 2020) and I have much to learn, particularly in terms of presentation style and production quality. As such I welcome constructive comments that will help me improve the videos that I produce and upload.
There may be some dry humor in some of the videos, so dry it may not always be obvious :-).

I use a Garmin and the Pulsar head unit on my Gain M30, I have the Garmin on the out front mount and use a Garmin mount on the stem. I simply use my thumb to change up and down power levels. I had to use the Iwoc once when the head unit was sent back for warranty replacement and did not like not seeing a visual power level also not having to take my hands off the bar and look down is an added bonus

It's just me, and it's not rational, but I dislike handlebar clutter and doubling up of functionality. I don't have the PulsarOne unit anyway. I found the iWoc fiddly to use at first but with practice I can adjust the power levels without looking down. It would be nice to be able to change without taking my hand off the bar but I haven't mastered that yet 😆. I thought I might be in a minority that uses the iWoc in that way.

I never used the iWoc only to turn on and off, I have a small controller that came with the bike its very simple and easy to use, level off 1 2 3, distance and battery charge left, and total km done. Keep up the great work I love your vids.

I don't have a Pulsarone (OC display) so I've never used it; it does look nice and easy to use though. I do like to use my Garmin as it does navigation etc. My Garmin has several seconds latency 'built in' which can be frustrating. Does the Pulsarone have any latency? Finally my engineering brain 🧠 (perhaps I'm a little autistic) likes a simple cockpit setup. For my use, the iWoc works quite well now I've got used to it. Maybe it's because I don't change the motor level that often. Would love the satellite buttons that you get on the 2023 am models.

@@FiveMinuteVelo Its very simple 1 arrow to the left for lower power, 1 to the right for higher power. Round button in the middle for battery % left and KM dome.

Which Garmins play nice with the MAHLE system?

First of all it needs have Bluetooth. Then obviously the software options. I use an Edge 1030, anything released about the same time or later should work. If you have a specific unit, let me know what it is and I'll give you my opinion. Terry

Why do you not have a pulsar ,is it an extra you have to buy or is on newer models

I believe the PulsarOne (OC display) is and has been supplied with all new Orbea Gains since 2021 (or maybe even before). When I bought my Orbea Gain (2021 model) it was for a very low price and one of the compromises was there was no display.
