This is a small thing, but I really appreciate in your videos that the exterior shots when you are talking almost always match up with the proper time of when you were saying it inside the vehicle. For instance at 5:40 it is clear that your narration is precisely when you were saying it inside the vehicle. Most people would never notice, but for some reason it makes me smile.

Frontier is good overall, but not good off-road. The wheel braking and off-road modes do nothing on that truck. The Frontier is not very capable off-road, even with a locker. There are videos on KZfaq showing how the Frontier gets stuck on obstacles other trucks easily go over.

Nice, but waaayyyy too much money. Where are the affordable mid size trucks these days? This truck costs $69,400 in Canada, with Ontario taxes, for the no-option TRD Off-Road Premium. Sixty Nine thousand dollars!!! The top tier (in Canada) Trail Hunter costs an Aneurism-inducing 97,200 with taxes. No words. Good video, as always, Ryan. I was in the market for a good, off-road truck recently and wanted to get a Tacoma TRD Pro based on previous years. Then I saw that it wasn't released yet. Bummer... but OK. Then I saw the price increase. BIG bummer... and NOT OK. Then I saw the price for a decently-optioned TRD Off-Road (and confirmed in your video). HUGE bummer. Then I started hearing the news of failures in the line-up... coupled with the failure(s) in the Tundra... and saw how Toyota responded. So I did something I never thought I'd do - I bought a Chevrolet (still kinda makes me question myself after owning nothing but Japanese vehicles since the early 2000s), a 2024 Colorado ZR2. And I love it! MUCH more capable than the Tacoma TRD Off-Road, looks better (IMO), and it is less expensive! I seriously don't understand why people are paying what they are for anything in the Tacoma line. Sorry, Toyota - big whiff on this.

This is fully loaded with all the options possible minus the hybrid. The previous gen fully optioned was 46k. But that truck was terrible to drive and underpowered for what it is. The base offroad for this new one is 42k and the previous gen was like 38k so a little closer on price. You're paying for the new engine, transmission, and offroad tech. The old truck was ancient for sure I can't imagine paying 50k for that. Had they continued the previous gen truck inflation would have kicked it up to 50k. The tundra is a different beast. A regular doublecab not crewmax trd offroad is around 55k for the base. But because of the recall they are being marked down and rebate nearly 10k.

99% of people would be better served with a mid-level 4x4 pickup. The test track used by this channel is way more challenging than anything I've ever driven on after decades of driving logging roads in deep snow while hunting. Never once have I reached for a rear locking diff switch or crawl control in all those years...4 high has always been plenty of traction as long as the tires were good. IMO a lot of people have been sold a bill of goods by influencers, advertisers, and manufacturers into thinking spending an extra 10 thousand on unnecessary options is a great idea...it's not. Save your money and spend it on good all-terrain tires...

This truck did everything extremely well. This is a very capable off-road truck. Most people who will buy trem may never take it off road. This is all you need if you are a sane person. If you are a lunatic off-road, no truck will be capable of your needs.

Ranger Raptor gives you more everything for slightly more cost (assuming you can buy both trucks at MSRP; even this Taco is probably going to run you at least 60k at a Toyota Dealership).

The SR5 comes with the same impressive 4wd system minus the locker and terrain management right? I’d imagine even the SR5 is very capable.

I’ll keep driving my 23 TRD Off Road, double cab, 6’ bed with the premium and technology plugs. I purposefully bought the 23 because I wanted the 3.5L Naturally Aspirated V6 that is a proven, reliable and durable engine. I’m afraid of the Turbo engines of the new generation Tacoma

Its a good thing you didn't do anything hard today. Toyota definitely don't want another youtuber to break the Tacoma. They are definitely under trouble / bad reputation and don't want another. These are everyday light duty trucks and not meant to hard offroad now. Surely Toyota can build them tough but most likely to cost $100K with pathetic economy we have right now.

The TRD PRO and TRD Off-Road are both wants, not needs. At 54k, that a lot of want.

Love this review. Who needs the TRD Pro? Insecure posers "need" the TRD Pro to go over speed bumps at Costco and their kids' schools. Real overlanders and offroaders buy the cheaper TRD Offroad, mod it, and bang it up in the wild. That's the way it is now, and it will be the same with the 4th Gen.

@@CharlieParker-dz6fv I had to hedge a bit, since Toyota COULD do it with their press loaners before an official process is out there. But I think it is unlikely to turn-it around so quickly.

Why does it need a flat screen tv like that’s the biggest downside same with the turbo just ruins the pistons faster. Also probably will have to replace the turbo about 5 times till the engine blows up at 100k miles

The Frontier Pro-4X is the way to go at $54k for a Tacoma TRD Off-Road is way over priced. Nissan dealerships in the Phoenix market are running discounts on the Frontier, generally you can get one for around $43k fully loaded.

It is still crazy they left off a few things that seem rather basic. No rear arm rest, No rear A/C, and NO MEMORY SEATS!!! Seriously Toyota? You add amazingly nice features like a camera mirror, cameras everywhere, and ventilated seats, but no memory seats? That ancient feature is a must for me. Dealbreaker territory.
