Just swapped out subframe today. using a lift and air tools took about 2 hours. Great video saved me alot of time and money.

It took two of us about 6 hours to change this part out on a 2007 Dodge Caliber. Your video was very helpful during the process but we never want to do one of these jobs again:)

Thank you so much for this video. I bought my '08 a little over a year ago, since my 16 year old Alero had kicked the bucket (16 years, lol, who would've thought!). First oil change I got, my mechanic pulled me aside to show me the subframe. It wasn't as bad as the one you showed. It was bought from an auction, so they had to do a lot of patch work to bring it up to safety standards. But there was rust, he told me not to hang onto it for longer than a couple of years. Thing is, the engine had very low mileage. Not even 45,000 miles on it (I'm guessing they did an engine swap). I don't want to get rid of it because of a part that can be replaced. Plus my fellow co-worker is an unlicensed driveway mechanic, and I know he wants my money. :) Thank you so much for this video. If you have a paypal, let me know what it is. Great video!! After watching your video, my son and I replaced this sub-frame on my grandson’s 2012 Caliber. It was completely rusted/rotted out. About 3 hours to remove the original and 2.5 hours to install the new one. We run a tap through all threaded holes to make sure the threads were clean and the new bolts would turn in easily. Thank you for the detailed video. Made the job much easier.

Just did this on my friends '07 Caliber....them steering gear box bolts are the hardest s***s on that thing. But did it all with ratching wrenches an sockets.

Cool stuff Rick! That has to be the simplest sub frame swap video ever made. I love your videos because they are in layman terms. I am a budding shade tree mechanic and I like to kick back and watch your stuff because it familiarizes myself with the average underside of any car. My current project is a 1975 Chevelle Malibu. I just redid the brake lines, transmission pan, differential/pinion seal and gas tank swap. Without guys like you making videos I might have been too intimidated, like I was a couple years ago. But now I know its all about trial and error.. and just getting under the damn car .. examining and learning to troubleshoot in steps. I have 4 cars and the newest is a 2005 Altima.. so learning to wrench is not only fun but a necessity. THANKS BUD! ROCK ON!

Great video Rick...you really know what you're doing! I don't reckon that your neck is as red as you say it is! I'm too old now to tackle these types of jobs but my 2000yr Focus just failed on a rusted out sub-frame...but also adjacent bodywork rusted too. There was a time I might have tackled a job like this from a Haynes manual but the KZfaq videos are SO much better. It was just a real pleasure watching you do this in your clever, down to earth practical way. People like you are really generous folk as this will help a lot of home DIYers. For those that don't know. The subframe on certain years of calibers is under recall. My cousin has a 2007 and her daughter has a 2009 and dealer replaced both at no cost.

You did a Great job explainig the job in detail! Im always working underneath cars also, but no one talks about the entire job from beginning to end, step by step!

Fastest way is to use a 4 and half inch cutoff wheel and cut away the bottom of the old subframe and then cut off the bolts from underneath. Tie up the rack to the motor mount with a zip tie, cut the swivel allen sway bar links and replace with new after, then drop it out.

Doing this tomorrow. Thanks for the video! It will probably cut at least an hour of time out knowing what needs to come out and what doesn't! 🍻

Thanks for the Video, Brother! My Dodge Calibre is in for the same repair to pass its MOT, and your video justified the price I had to pay. It's a big job! Also needed 2 front wishbones, 2 front Brake Disks and Drivers side Brake Pad. Gonna cost £900. It's a 2006, and hopefully, will last another year yet. My Subframe was shocking! Actually dangerous. Seems to be a big problem with Chrysler, though, Subframes collecting water and rusting like there is no tomorrow. Keep up the good work! Subscribed 👍👍👍

Thanks for the video! This was very helpful. I had to do this on a 08 jeep patriot and I had trouble with the transmission mount and found it was easier to pull the subframe with the power steering rack and swaybar still connected to it. Hope that helps someone else. But thanks for the video, best video I could find on this!

I'm replacing this on my 2007 jeep patriot right now, and I have no idea how to get at the driver's side 17mm steering rack bolt. Maybe it's just the patriot. But I have the "rear roll mount " and some power steering lines sitting right over the bolt. Even if I could get a 17 mm on it, the bolt would have nowhere to go. I'm currently trying to remove the rear roll mount. Thinking I need to buy an extended flex head 16mm. Because I got the back two bolts and the top "through bolt" out. But the front most bolt i don't think i can access any other way.

what about dodge journey 2015 dose it have a sub-frame? and can i replaceit?

I just did a rack and pinion on a 2008 jeep patriot the alldata manual states to mark subframe before removal with a crayon or magic marker if you dont it would mess up alighment. My question is did you do that with your subframe replacement? I tried the diy wheel alighment to get me by until i get real i get real wheel alighment since i had to remove tie rods from the old rack to the new one. Im hoping i installed that subframe correctly.

I'm working with the same car. I'm trying to get mine back in but can't. Having problems with the sway bar and rack and pinion location. Does the sway bar and pinion go under the the motor mount bracket? I can't tell by seeing the video.

Hey , i stumbled across this video due to the fact im trying to replace a sway bar on a jeep patriot and i cannot figure out how to get bar in . Looks like this subframe cross member has to drop some to get it in there.

mine in my 08 caliber failed inspection friday because of the rusted subframe yesterday i got a recall notice in the mail for an extended 10 year off to the dealer it goes so everone with an o8 they are now recalled not just the 07

i bought a 2007 dodge caliber few months ago. i notice it was squeaking like hell so i got under the car and found out that the squeak came from my rotted out front sub frame. i posted up a video on my public YT. Bro I need help all the bolts that you took off for the subframe including the sway bar any type of motor mounts or the fuel rail bolts. Pretty much just all the bolts that you took off in your video I know this is going to be a question that you probably don't want to answer but it would really help me out a lot all my bolts I took out were stripped and I took them to go get sized I can't figure it out I can't find a book on it to tell me what the bolt sizes are I really would like it if you could help me. I want to replace all the bolts I didn't get a bag when I bought my subframe like you did so I was really really upset about that. Awesome! I need to do mine, this video definitely helps. I may have to replace the steering rack too, once I see how bad it is. I'm hoping it's just rusted loose from the subframe if not, at least having the subframe out of the way will make replacing it much easier. After I do this I'll have basically an entirely new front end. I live in northern Michigan so... there's that. Rust sucks. Thinking of filling the new subframe with expanding foam or something to seal it off better and painting it with rust oleum beforehand. Any thoughts on that? I just don't want to have to deal with it again and when I decide to sell I can let the person know that it won't be a future issue because I took extra measures... thanks in advance! And once again, thanks for this video! I'll be using it as a guide for my job.
