Does "getting good" at a game ruin the fun?

I find that it gives nuance to a game that might have been getting boring. There's some charm to the newbie experience but eventually being weak and a detriment to others (in multiplayer) is not a fun experience and entering that new higher level of play revitalizes the game and gives you more fun value in the end (after putting in the work)

I think "getting good" at games is fun. It's when other people get good that they stop being fun ;-)

Yes, it does. It’s fun when you’re using unoptimized strats, when you’re wide-eyed, when you don’t know the surroundings and are afraid. My happiest hours in PUBG were in 2017, when I didn’t know the map, died to the blue and was excited for every kill. But then always comes the optimization, it’s inevitable, regardless of the player base, and it makes games trivial. And it’s nobody’s fault, our brains just work like that. But that stage between complete incompetence and the mastery, when you begin figuring things out but aren’t there quite yet, is the most exciting one.

I don't have time to watch this, but, i want to say, the developers, fighting good players, and nerfing them from the get go, THAT is ruining the fun ! Google lag compensation in Apex Legends for example.

I don't think it ruins the fun. but it sucks when you are really good and you are matched with a team that doesn't even try to win or go afk on purpose. Like I'm really good at mlbb. And sometimes you matched are with absolutely trash players.
