What stops up your kitchen drain more than anything else? What do you use to unstop it?

Caustic soda, but that was for a shower drain so I didn't have access to the pipework, normally just remove the trap and clean it out.

For mine, usually fat residue and food remainders from the plates are sufficient to clog the drain up over time. I pour down a good glob of dish detergent and hot water and let that sit for some time. This usually dissolves the fat. If it doesn't in reasonable time, the flex poking stick and a few stomps with a plain old plunger takes care of it. My whole life I've only needed to call a plumber to help with a drain spiral twice, and one of those was my ex thinking it'd be a good idea to flush the empty toilet roll.

Clobber or glug by hercules Or Drain Banger by blue monster I don't recommend it because it'll eat through pipes but I've seen it work

Coffee grinds, food remains and fat. What I usually do is just undo the p-trap and just drain it in a bucket, that always do the job and much faster than using chemicals or plunger. The only thing I have to deal with is the mess that it will leave behind but usually I do what the guys that cleans the grease trap do when storing all the stuff they got from the grease trap, just put a strong plastic bag(2 ply) in the bucket, dump all the stuff in there, tie it then throw it in the trash....

I use this for bathroom drains, and it literally works every time. What this video doesn't consider is that long term build up begins to decompose, and gunk up. It literally removes all the gunk, its not going to just dissolve fresh or packaged food that hasn't even expired yet.

I doubt the age of the clog was the problem. It probably has less problem with hair than food. Most kitchen clogs are going to be mostly knew stuff that causes the problem.

@@tschorsch new stuff that is trying to get past goo stuck to the inside sides of the pipe. Once a year I pour 5+ gallons of boiling water down my kitchen sink all at once to dissolve old grease. I never have a clog. Everyone should do this and then never pay a plumber.

This stuff works. The problem with your experiment is that you created a total clog situation. Most if not all liquid drain cleaners work on partially clogged drains, otherwise you’d have to use a snake.

Finally someone who gets it. I said the same thing. First the guy over exaggerates the clog and second tries it on fresh food. Usually when your drain clogs with bits and pieces here and there, the food is sitting in there over time and after all that water that runs through mushes it up and softens the food making it easier for the corrosive to eat through and build up that gas pressure to push it through.

Do you have a 16 year old son? Trust me, when they legit put a plate in the sink full of food and they do that over a few days (I’m away for days at a time for treatment out of city) and then adds water to try and rinse.. long story short, mine has looked like this!

I used Green Gobler drain and clog dissolver liquid on my occasional clog in the shower and bath sink and I can swear it works. You just have to give it some time. I pour some in my kitchen drain occasionally to keep it decent. I love the stuff.

I used the liquid green gobbler on my tub. It was running very, very slow. Left it sit overnight and the drain ran clear in the morning. I loved it so much i got another jug to have on hand. We have hard water in our area too.

I used Green Gobbler just last week on a stopped up toilet and then a couple of days later on a kitchen sink. It worked fairly well on the toilet but it did absolutely nothing for the kitchen sink. The clog was apparently too much for Green Gobbler so I referred to Roger's KZfaq video on sink clogs. I followed his instructions and manually removed a very, very large clog. The problem is now resolved.

Most modern homes have PVC pipe fixtures under the sink. You can easily take them apart and scrub them out with hot water and ammonia, and use a bottle brush. The compression fittings are easy to dismantle and reinstall and you end up with the ultimate fix.

I was canning beets and found out that beet skins are absolutely FANTASTIC when it comes to clogging drains. I was so impressed... so was my husband when the beet juice went everywhere when I took the pipes apart.

I've used the green gobbler liquid 2 pre measured applications for my tub and it worked great. Better than a lot of other products. Although I did use them both as well as let them sit overnight. 🤷‍♀️

When they say flush with plenty of hot water I would assume they mean a pail or a bucket of hot water, not just a travel mug full of water.

Top tip. Once a week run hot water from the tap for 5 minutes. The 5 minutes of constant hot water will act as preventive maintenance by blasting away build up of soap scum and potential hair down there. If my sink starts to get a slight cogI do that and it generally helps. If the clog is still there but the water still drains albeit slowly I put draino down there wait the directed time and than blast it again with hot water and that takes care of it. Naturally do not put draino in a completely clogged sink as that is dangerous.

this works period. Plumbers would be out of most simple jobs so ofcourse they want to make this product look bad. But it works period. Use it properly and see for yourself. Been using it for years and it works on minor clogs everytime and it clearly says if one packet doesn't work throw another in and that always does the trick. Plumbers do not want things like this to work. Why would they lol think about that. Spent 5 bucks on green gobbler when you can spend hundreds on a plumber. Good luck.

So, I was having an issue in our basement. The slop sink created a clog, and was causing our washing machine to back up and flood the basement with each use. I tried anything I could think of to free the clog, but was having no luck. Then, I played my Billy Mays card. We happened to have had some "green gobbler" left from our old apartment. It was not a powder, but was a double-pour liquid. I poured one half down the slop sink, and the other into the drain pipe for the washer, and left it overnight, per the instructions. The next day, the clog was totally clear. So I can confirm that the product, at least in some form, and some circumstances does indeed work.

My bathroom sink gets slow like every 3-4 months. I think hard water plus soap plus shaving cream plus toothpaste creates buildup. I always used luquid plumber foaming pipe snake but It's suddenly not available in the hardware stores anymore. I got the green gobbler liquid stuff you mentioned and poured it in overnight. It seems to work.

I live in an old house and I was looking for something that wasn't so caustic on Old pipes since they haven't all been replaced yet. Green gobbler worked Magic on two of the sinks. I think I also have an issue with toothpaste Gunk building up and slowing the drain down and I'm pretty sure the sink doesn't have a vent either so any restriction causes standing water. It usually takes most of a year to start having issues but each time I've used Green gobbler it has worked wonders.

I am also a plumber and only use liquid gobbler on a/c drain pan lines. It works great to clean out the scum that backs up a/c drains.

"Green Gobbler" was the nickname my ex had in college. Her favorite color was green so she pretty much always wore green cloths and jewelry. Never figured where the "gobbler" part came from. She was really popular though, always invited to parties.

I used TWO gallons of Green Gobbler on my slow shower drain full of soap slime and hair. Once it sat for 2 hours. The 2nd one was overnight. Neither application worked. You are correct

I live in a apartment and my neighbours below me had clogging issues, I used this product green gobbler in my unit and their unit, if you read all the instructions on it, there is a overnight way to use this, that does work well. Also the hot water method is boiling hot water, like a tea kettle boil way. Its worked for us and saved us in plumbing bills!

I filled a gallon jug of hot water from the sink and it worked. Sucks waiting for the water to get hot enough. I had a slow draining tub in the house I just bought and using the "tough clog" instructions like you mentioned had it running like a champ. 🏆

Yup! I've used it overnight too. I didn't use boiling water though. Might be bad for PVC. I used water heated by a coffeemaker. That worked and wasn't mad, boiling hot.

I thought you were supposed to flush with "plenty of hot water" at the end. To me, that would be filling the sink with at least a couple of inches of hot water to allow enough weight to help force the chemical through

Yep I'm pretty sure you're correct. But also I don't think it's meant to work on anything fresh. It seems to me like dissolving fresh food would require a different kind of chemical reaction than rotten food or anything else built up inside a kitchen drain.

I actually used green gobbler on standing water in my bathroom sink. The clog wasn't in the P trap but further down the line. I left the gobbler in there for hours before running the water and it actually helped. I have a slow drain now but the water actually drains where as it wasn't before. took hours of letting green gobbler sit there and do it's magic.

I once had a bad kitchen drain clog. I tried using Green Gobbler. After three attempts/applications, the clog was still there. However, the next morning I ran more hot water into the drain and it was unclogged. Kind of a delayed reaction / result. On another occasion I used the product in my bathroom sink drain and it worked well. So this product may not work all the time, but I have had some good results with it.

Love those style of jokes. But it usually isn't acid because acid works more on metals so can be quite harmful to plumbing and nylon stuff. Most plumbing solutions are a base or caustic. This one I thing has sodium hydroxide in it, pretty much like most other drain cleaners. More effective against biological material such as hair, grease and food. Dissolves small children on contact.

My guess this contains sodium hydroxide, once exposed to enough water it forms regular salt due to exposure to hydronium ions. It can work but its all about the chemical reaction. This is why it called for Hot water to help speed up the reaction. I wouldn't rely on it to work by itself without agitation to improve the reaction times other wise.there will be a lot of waiting. Sodium hydroxide is also safe for stainless steel so no damage to the sink would occur.

There is a class of drain cleaners that’s basically just sulfuric acid. Essentially they are the nuclear option when others have failed. It’s extremely effective at dissolving organic material, but definitely shouldn’t be used very often- but then neither should sodium hydroxide which is also extremely corrosive. Green Gobbler claims to not have caustic or acidic ingredients.

I have used that and it worked! Not on a backed up kitchen sink though. The toilets clog all the time and eventually the downstairs toilet overflows. It’s soapy water from my washer that is upstairs! Apparently the drains are gunked up. Saw this stuff a read great reviews so I tried it and I’m happy with the results! I dumped a packet of the powder down all drains. Two sinks and 1 toilet downstairs, 2sinks, 2 toilets and two shower drains upstairs and let it sit overnight. Flushed all with hot water and haven’t had a clog since!

I used a plug in leaf blower to unclog sink at work and it did awesome job. This guy professional plumber and best. It's a demonstration plus one on commercial did same thing but was fake. Everything you see on tv does same thing that been out for 20-50yrs old.

I've used Green Gobbler before, but it was in a liquid form (came with two doses, where you could use 1 dose, or 2 if the clog was real bad). Worked similar to this one, except you waited about at minimum an hour (though preferably overnight, as per the instructions), then you pour boiling hot water down the drain. Apparently, it sinks through standing water too. I will say, it definitely seemed like it worked with my shower and sink as it had a lot of trouble draining before I used the stuff, then drains as it should. Would be interested to see you test that one if you haven't already!

I've used "one second plumber" several times, and it usually does the job. The one time it didn't was when I had a bunch of bitter orange I'd used in brewing go down the drain, and it expanded to clog the pipe. The one second plumber pushed it, but it stayed as a plug as it went. I had to cut the pipe apart about 15 feet down the line to get it out.

The product used was at home depot called guarenteed to work. It came in a bottle, and that bottle came in a plastic bag. It was hardcore and worked great. The bottle was black too. It was amazing

I've used green gobbler a fewl times and it works wonders. Definitely recommend. So far it's 3 for 3 and I've tried other products and didn't get any results. The mistake in this video is that the instructions clearly state to use PLENTY of hot water even you do the flush. A cup full isn't plenty. I always used a stew pot if boiling water. The sink usually looks exactly the same after the 30 minutes with it sitting on top. But as you pour the hot water, it eventually pops and flows. I will say that it does have a bit of a sewage smell as it does do it's thing but it doesn't stay. Feel like he needs to try this again with following the directions properly

Had a nasty hair clog in my bathtub. You'd take a shower and by the end of it, you'd be stepping out of a bath. Needed to get something quick and the only thing I could get at the time was Green Gobbler "Drain Clog Dissolver" It did work, but I had to use two applications rather than one.

I used it with several real life clogs hair, grease, so forth and it’s worked great. I’ve used it on my shower drain, kitchen sink, and bathroom sink. Without using the zip rod. And it’s cleared them all as described. I’ve been very happy with it.

Yup, I keep a similar product that comes in little pebble form around. Every single time I had a clog it would help me, sometimes it takes two applications to clean the clog, but it always worked for me. I'm assuming it's very similar chemicals because it also calls for hot water and produces really nasty fumes, but it works.

I use it as well, and it works great for slow draining. I'm not sure any chemical clearing agent would work on a clog like he created here - the pipe is so completely clogged none of the chemical reaches the end of the clog. You should also be running hottest water possible for at least 10 minutes at the end to clear the clog.

@@bruhkan457 I'm just saying, he clogged the pipe with a solid mass of fresh, non-decaying food right up to the drain holes. This is an extreme and unlikely situation for a normal homeowner to encounter, and the instructions specifically direct the user to use a second dose and let the product sit overnight for tough clogs. For normal clogs that result from constriction just in the trap, GG works exactly as advertised.

Interesting. I have used this product on 2 different clogs. A stopped up septic field line and the second was a regular kitchen sink drain that was stopped up by grease. The green gobbler worked BOTH times. Neither worked in five minutes or 5 hours. It did take a few days for both to clear up. Beat calling a plumber. Great product that I will use again.

Fellow plumber here. Green Gobbler is trash but I did find one as seen on TV product that works besides the Sham-Wow. The Tub Shroom is ~$12 on Amazon and does actually catch the hair that goes down your tub drain. The only downside is it needs to be cleaned at least once a week. Cheers!

@@RogerWakefield I can help with the special effects. First, tie a piece of monofilament to a small cork. Next, hot glue a couple of green beans onto the cork...you know...for camouflage. Put the camouflage cork in the p-trap and run the mono out the tail end of the pipe. Build the clog (you know how to do that) with the cork buried in it. At the proper moment (insert music crescendo here), pull on the monofilament to yank the cork out along with all the gunk. If you do this correctly, it will be just "as seen on TV".

I've actually used this green gobbler, not on a clog but slow draining. And it worked well. Better than most in my opinion. To be honest we don't get clogs, usually you'll see a slow drain first before a clog so we maintain it with green gobbler. Doesn't help either that a lot of the drains in my house are old plumbing, old old plumbing etc etc. Thank goodness I'm remodeling the entire house

I know someone that was buying a foreclosed out. The septic system was overloaded, he added a full bag of the GG septic system at 3 weeks later when the bank inspected the system, all the top sludge was gone and the leech fields were working again. 2 years later, 1 normal treatment per month and no problems.

@@RogerWakefield Never said it was, like a lot of 'seen on tv' things, if it's that bad, the first step to doing it one's self is to grab the yellow pages and find a plumber. Or, as some have said, get a bucket and undo the P trap. (I'd worry about doing that in an older home with metal pipes though, don't want to break the nuts with a wrench.) "It'll be cheaper if I do it myself" will be more expensive if you try something like that, then have to call a professional anyway, after all. Not only that, but some things like drano (and this stuff obviously) are a pain in the butt for plumbers to come in after, are they not? Toxic chemicals now stuck in with the clog to be wary of if disassembly needs doing to fix it.

Green Gobbler has worked for me every time. I use more hot water than a tumbler though. I use a small bucket. Green Gobbler was recommended to me by the plumber that unclogged my lines several years ago. I now use once a year for maintenance.

I also have used this many times on the pipes in my house that seem to always get clogged with soap, toothpaste, hair, etc. I've used other products that didn't work as well, but the Green Gobbler product has so far worked the best. But you definitely do need to leave it in there for the full 30 minutes and rinse well with hot water afterward.

I think he was trying to imitate what they show on tv. With the clogs that were shown in the ad, there’s no way a chemical could ever clear it. Only a cable machine. In your case, it may have been just a soft clog, or just a slow drain. I’ve been a plumber for the past 10 years and have cleared thousands of drains, many of those with caustic chemicals in them. It may work for slow drains, but definitely not to the extent you see on the tv ads.

Used a product called Thrift in the late 90s. I still see it around. Actually would clear a slow drain but not completely stopped. Very caustic and damaging. Mechanical is the way to go. Sink machines work in tubs as well. If you're doing service (and I'm not anymore) get multiple sizes os drain cleaning machines. Each will cover a broad spectrum. Take stuff apart and look at it.

Been using the Green Gobbler for a few years now and just used last week when I had a serious clog with my toilet. Green Gobbler does work but for my clog it took 3 bags - 3 tries but it cleared the clog. I let it sit overnight and do its thing. :)

Green Gobbler works for me. I had a few drains that were very slow draining (I live in an older house), but we used Green gobbler and they're all working great now. I also use their septic treatment. Sometimes depending how tough the clog is, you may need to use more. If you used a 2nd pack on this, it would probably unclog the remaining obstruction.

I had water drain clog issues with my 1 bed apt 🪠 sink. The apt complex is 25+ years old or so. 1998 re model. The drain would slowly seep water. I added a entire bottle of Liquid Plumber Max Gel. Used a lot of hot water, as listed. The kitchen drain did clear but 2wk on, the water can slow up. The big issue is it no longer fills the basin or goes slow....

The worst clog ever was at my grandma's house. Her shower was one of those ones where you can stand in the bath tub to shower, or you can have a normal bath. We'll, when I stayed at grandma's, the drain in there was totally blocked. After trying with the plunger for an hour and bucket loads of hot water, vinegar, bi carb soda, even coca cola, nothing worked! In anger, I went through everything in her shed and found some industrial strength acid. I poured about 5 litres of the stuff into the bath, mixed with hot water, then it was that I heard a rumbling sound echoing through the pipes under the house, I ran out side to rhe back lawn where I could hear water gushing out. It was then, I realised, that my grandma's bath must be connected to the sewer pipes, because there, exploding out of the ground on her back lawn, was my grandma's crap

Literally just used this on a shower drain, took two packets but it worked great. We think it may have been user error on the first packet, as our water was luke-warm at best, but tried hot hot water the second time and within 30 min, drain cleared. Plumber wanted $200 just to come look at it...

Ive used green gobbler and it worked for me. granted i havent used it on food/kitchen sink clogs. it was bathroom singk and shower clogs so more hair grease, hair, dirt, shampoo ect. and it worked pretty good. it also wasnt completely clogged just a slow drain. ive bought it twice since then and its given me pretty good results.

Hey Rodger yes i have used green Gobbler and for lots of times I actually had it work over the k400 last year. The trick when they say use hot water is use boiling water is the trick. When you do this next time put a cup of running boil hot water on top and wait 10 to 30 mins.

I have used Green Gobbler twice and both times it cleaned the problem I had with our bathroom drain. In fact I used my last package today and it worked okay. Also, the product bubbles up and it left a dark sticky residue on the drain plug. Bit of soapy steel wool and it is good as new. Interesting video though. I believe that the difference in your demonstration and my real life problem was the composition of the clogging material. Bathroom clog mostly hair. You clog a whole different animal.....

I have used, with some success, the biological grease digesters. Most of my kitchen drain problems are with the horizonal line that runs under the basement floor to the stack, it's very old cast iron and the slightest amount of grease really slows down the sink drain.

Clean it with an wire cleaner and hot water. You can install some Y joints ports down on the basement for easier access. Once clean, try to avoid to any solid food to get in and install hair traps on the shower. Once a week throw down a cauldron of hot water and you shoud be good for somme years. When you note it is being hard to going down again use your wire cleaner before it got badly jammed.

9/9/22 Hi Roger. I've used Green Gobbler and didn't have any of the issues you did. We had two major clogs: our toilet and the kitchen sink. My husband has done most of the cooking since we moved to this house. Unbeknownst to me a lot of grease as well as the usual crap was going down our drain. I didn't notice until no water was draining. This occurred in the middle of winter. We use a snake which generally works pretty good for us. It moved nothing. We use some of the other products we normally did like Drano and it didn't work. So I saw advertisement for Green Gobbler. They said it was an enzymatic drain cleaner and I said I'll give it a try. So first application moved a little bit but I know how badly it was clogged. So second application I put in of the Green gobbler and flushed with the hot water, it went through no problem. I sort of tried to stay on top of it but it did happen again for the same reason hubby and grease down the green and everything else. So now I stay on top of it with the Green Gobbler at least once a month and we haven't had any more problems. However my second issue and it was a major one was with our toilet. I hadn't had a problem with the toilet before. It was horrendous! Did the usual thing with the snake etc and that usually worked for the little issues we would have with the toilet but didn't do diddly. So we went ahead and tried the Green gobbler with the toilet and it must have been it must have gone down the line pretty far cuz it didn't want to work first application and moved a little bit. But the second application it went right through. It took everything out. I was so glad and I haven't had a problem with it since. So now, just like with the drain we do regular maintenance monthly and we haven't had any more problems. Yay!!!!!! ⭐👍⭐ P.S. I haven't tried the product with fresh food stuffs pushed down the drain. By the time I have a glog there's a slimy, decaying mess in my drain. Yuck! That may be why it worked so well for me. 😉

Did u use the pods green gobbler ones? Just I have a toilet what needs a good wash threw bad smell so I got some septic tanks saver pods I'm.just wondering if one doesn't work do I put another down?

This product worked for my older house built in 1954 I’ve had still water issues since I bought it 4 years ago…. I don’t believe pasta and rice is a fair equivalent to grease and hair, the product definitely works

Yeah well said , they are pretty much designed for exactly as you said grease and hair and soap residue , its liquid and bar soaps that contain animal fats of such descriptions that cause the issue in bathroom sinks and drains , the soap leaves a load of tacky residue and all the hair gets matted in it these basically just break down the hair and grease , they are not going to remove large bits of food

And fresh cabbage and carrots? This is absolutely an unfair demonstration and complete and utter b******* from a supposed professional. This has worked in two tubs, 3 kitchen sinks, 2 bathroom sinks in three different houses in my family. I bought it first for myself because my tub drain was beginning to backup and accumulates water ( I have really good water pressure and a not at all efficient shower head so it was half full by the time you finish your shower). I let all the water drain out of the tub trying to use the plunger to get more of it down and it just drained so slowly, around an hour to empty 4-6 in. I bought the gallon jug and follow the directions meticulously with measuring cup, boil the kettle of water and ran the kitchen tap until it was hot so I could have a whole bucket of hot water to pour in after the boiling water and it worked like a charm. I've had no issues since January, 11 months ago. I proceeded to give it to everybody who is having drain issues and it's at least worked a little bit for everybody that has used it.
