Scoring a goal is never a "no-no". In the rule book of hockey cross-checking to the face is an actual "no-no". Nowhere in the official rule book of hockey does it say "do not slap pucks into empty nets". Rielly deserves the punishment & more. Slapshots in empty nets only hurt fragile egos.. mature players won't get phased by it. However cross checks can end a guys career

Taking a _slap-shot_ at an empty net is a "no-no"? In what official rule book? Adds insult to injury, sure, and probably is a classless move in the "code book" for some, but in _no universe_ is a cross-check to the head in retaliation warranted. No one got hurt with a slap-shot into an empty net, except maybe the feelings and egos of some fragile Leafs fans and players. I'd have thrown the book at Rielly, too.

Back in the day, there was an empty net goal where the guy stopped in front of the net, waved at the crowd and waited for the opponent's player to almost get to him before tapping it into the net and we out here complaining about a slapshot. Also while the Sens haven't made the Playoffs in nearly a decade they've still gone deeper than the Leafs have since then.

There was a time if you had a celli, as they say today, after scoring a meaningless goal, you could have got a stick, for sure a glove in the face, if the 7th goal late in a game even a line brawl. Hockey changed after Eddie Shore, Ace Bailey incident, as well it should have, and continues to change. The McSorley, Brashear, incident comes to mind as another moment that made people think about the use of a stick when tempers flair. It has to be condemned, like those two incidents, change often comes with a remarkable moment. Like an incredible player strikes a rookie.

So let’s look at the latest trend in goal scoring by Jack Hughes. Shoot the puck at approximately 80 miles per hour at the goalie’s head so the puck deflects off the goalie’s head and into the net. Or as media describe the shot “Banks Off Goalie from Sharp Angle”. It has been described as precision skill. But it’s a “shot to the head” intentionally. It’s OK by NHL standards to shoot a puck at a goalie’s head to score but Morgan Reilly gets 5 games for a 2 mile an hour cross check to a player’s “helmet” for what should have been an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty by Ridly Greig.

The NFL has an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for taunting. It's 15 yd and can have a significant impact on the game. The NHL and other sports could do the same. In hockey, since it might happen in the last seconds of a game,you could penalize the team a 2-minute minor at the beginning of their next game. If this were the case, I think a player's own teammates would dissuade him from that kind of behavior.

"we just lost to a team we cannot be losing to". This is why leafs fans and the team have issues. They had the same attitude towards Habs when they lost game 7. Keefe and this team, and it would seem alot of fans, do not respect opponents.

Some people think Reilly's crosscheck is a no no??? It is a cheap shot, dangerous, and yes, uncalled for. It is certainly not a fair response to a shot into an empty net. I don't support what Greig did and he should be chastized by the Ottawa Senators for doing it but nobody was harmed or at risk. Both were unecessary. One was mean and must be addressed. Reilly is not that type of player. His actions were uncharacteristic and that should be factored into the penalty but you can't let it go.

12 game suspension for literally the stupidest reason to assault someone. Dont want Grieg to showboat? Have your overpaid stars showup to beat a bottom tier team. Period. Reilly's response is after the play, a clear attack is actually eligible for criminal charges should police choose to pursue it. He and the Leafs are man children. They will never win the cup with this team.

12? Are you crazy? No it’s not you can’t slap shot a puck in open net either no players would like that they aren’t overpaid either and that isn’t even eligible for criminal charges nor are they man children and yes they will one day.

100% supported it, what is Sid smoking? Sure the goal was unclassy, but it is a rivalry. Do you think Tavares shouldn't pay taxes on a 14 million as well? Leafs loosers since the centennial.

Had Reilly not lazily skated back, perhaps he could have caught and disrupted Greig BEFORE he scored and not after. I thought the goal was good and the reaction extremely poor.

If Rielly had skated back "lazily" he would not have been that close to the showboating first year player to do what he did. He had to chase from the left side point after Nylander gave up the puck on the right side point and made no effort to chase and when the scrum happened Nylander was the last guy to show up and then held an Ottawa player by the sweater from behind. Enjoy all of those 8 years getting $11M Willie!!

Well that's exactly it, Reilly was no where near of catching/stopping good ol"Greig on a breakaway to an empty net so why the need to slap shot it in! only an arrogant A** would do that!

What they don’t get is safe and fun hockey does not allow drop the gloves in the final 5 minutes. It’s a 2 game suspension plus the coach is fined. Make the shot count. All’s fair in love and war.

This is the most ive seen the sens being talked about…sens fans are happy their voices were heard…rielly got his suspension and now sens fans can focus back on the rebuild thats supposed to be done last year lol

At the end of the day that slap shot didn’t injure anyone. A response should have been in his face and drop the gloves. The cross check was a purely emotional response and never should have happened? He deserves what he gets and justifying it is wrong too

Should we be allowed to bring a hockey stick to a bar, not use it on the dude who pissed you off cause he flaunted his money and simply...just...only sucker punch him? Is one better than the other? I wonder how 52 Division would react to that. Light in the wallet you say, 5Gs of $5M, yeah right.
