This, whenever I see a Leafs game like this, it honestly feels like they feel like "We're the better team, the more talented team. We don't have to put in the effort to beat them." So they don't. And they lose. Why? Because Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard. And it's always the case in games like this with them.

Now that Ottawa is starting to be competitive (Yes I know this year's been a flop but they have talent), it should start to get good again. Especially with Greig being the menace he is.

Martin Biron said on TSN he expects a fine but no suspension. IMO, that’s a wild take. Even for a player without a history of dirty hits, if he’s not suspended at least 2-3 games, I’ll be shocked. And don’t get me started on Keefe’s answer to what he thought about it…

Zadorov got suspended 2 for a totally unintentional head hit during the course of play. He deserved the 2 games, but a crosscheck aimed at someones neck/head after play is over...and not even in the heat of a moment, he had to skate from in front of his net to get there... HAS to be 4+, especially since he doesnt get time served on the game misconduct since it was at the end of the game unlike Perron or Zadorov. If he was kicked out early in the game then 2-3 might be more reasonable based on time served.

Does anyone seriously think that Brad Treliving should make any trades at the deadline for this Maple Leafs team? This team could very well miss the playoffs. This is the season that the Leafs should stand pat at the Deadline. Treliving should go into the dresing room and tell the team that no help is on the way a the deadline - the people in this room have to figure it out. If you don't, expect major changes in the off season.

They Leafs don't have the assets to make a significant trade and there are too many roster problems that need to be addressed. Even if the Leafs miss the playoffs or lose in the 1st round, what changes can they make next offseason? This team will have 53% of next year's cap tied up by four players. The FO has no money to sign the depth you need for a contending team.

The Leafs aren’t legit contenders, and management must realize that by now. I’m not sure they’ll make the playoffs this year, for that matter. D is a shambles, G is terribly untrustworthy, whole team makes bonehead mistakes game after game after game with no apparent consequences from coaching staff, etc etc. The salary structure and lousy drafting means there’s no significant help coming from anywhere. The Shanaplan may have made millions for MLSE, which is the goal for professional sports after all, but it’s doomed the Leafs to at least another decade of playoff failure.

what would a trade do? the problem isn't lack of talent (which a trade can fix) its not caring enough like Steve said the whole reason fans defended that hit from Reilly (when it was suspension worthy and Cheap, and Salty) is because they're so starved for seeing a player actually care enough to HATE LOSING to the point that it actually pushes them to do something like that (yes it was classless to do an Empty Net slapshot 3 feet away when u already won the series, hence why even the sens captain didn't like it, and I wouldn't have liked it if the Leafs did that to the sens if they already won the series) but he felt safe doing that because he didn't believe the players cared enough to do anything about it if every Leafs player cared half as much as Reilly did in that one moment they would have stomped Ottawa into the ground in all 4 games the only thing that can fix this problem is players actually learning something from this theres no way a team this stacked should lose to ottawa 3/4 times (and need their goalie to steal the 1 win they got) next time I'd rather see the team show that they care during gameplay, not afterwards using a move that just gets the rest of the franchise to brand them cowards and sore losers anyways, sure some players might look at that and think (oh we shouldnt push the leafs too much) but overall u need to channel that into your game

This is why I like Steve. Underneath all the passion, he usually has very level headed takes about incidents like the Reilly/Grieg one and he nailed it. Reilly needed to respond to Grieg, but he went too far. Grieg's a rat and will do rat things to get under the skin of other players and fan bases, especially if that fan base thinks they own his home rink. If it was reverse, and it was Gregor slapping it into an empty net, and Brady going after him, the media response and the fan takes would be the complete opposite of what it is now. And I am glad there is a passionate, yet level headed fans like Dangle who can call it straight without too much bias.

I mostly agree, except I think Steve is being too soft on Morgan Reilly because he likes him. Deliberate attempts to injure have no place in the game - the league should have learned that after the black eye that the Bertuzzi-Moore embarassment gave them. They should throw the book at Reilly.

Don’t matter if you’re bottom of the league or king of the league you got to play like it’s the big one every night from here on out, Lightning nearly got caught by the Blue Jackets, the third place in the Atlantic is in a three way deadlock between Toronto, Tampa, and Detroit. No excuses!

I have much respect for the Leafs fan base as they welcomed me with open arms in your barn- the fans are a class act because they are faithful and welcoming to those who love this crazy sport we call Hockey.

Sens fans understand your pain and frustration Steve. I get the reaction from Rielly but if you want to play tough guy and send a message, fight Greig that reaction is what Greig wants he loves getting into his opponents head and Rielly reacting like that is what he wants. Leafs really need to improve their blue line its horrible so many preventable goals no structure. It was a fun game to watch back and forth hockey maybe this game can ignite the battle of Ontario for the future cause its been dead

Correction: Sens *WERE* bad under DJ Smith. Since Martin took over under new ownership, they've been turning it round 6-2-2. Still not a playoff team b/c of the bad start, but Leafs didn't take them seriously enough. That was a fantastic slapper at the end.

This team is so extremely flawed and they keep running it back. Brad Treliving won't be able to make any MAJOR changes until the Tavares contract is off the books at the end of NEXT season. This team will get swept in 1st round of the playoffs and the players/management will act shocked.
@MalcolmThornton

Brad Trevling has rapidly become another major problem. He just signed Nylander to what will become one of the worst contracts in Hockey. 11.5 million for a one dimensional player who is on the ice for goals against just as much as goals for. He is nothing more than Shanahan’s puppet.
