This was painful to watch, and a complete mistake. Everyone acted like children except jeremy, who I feel enormous sympathy for. It's a shame we'll probably never see him on screen junkies movie fights again, because he deserves better than this.

one2gaming Actually coming from a screen junkies fan I had to admit Hal was wigging out on Jeremy. And yelling your opinion doesn't mean you're correct. The Hobbit was not bad. Obviously LOTR trilogy is better but it doesn't make The Hobbit bad.

This is by far the worst episode of Movie Fights, which I normally really enjoy. To completely abandon the format that was working really well and do the stupid 'team ups' was really dumb. I really hate the shouting matches, it is not entertaining it is actually really boring and cringe-worthy. Also, are any of these guys aware that movies were made before 1980? There are some absolute pieces of shit that have won best picture, like Around the World in 80 days in 1956 or How Green Was My Valley in 1941? But apparently movies suddenly appeared from 1980 onwards. And has anyone noticed that Jeremy Jahns has the most unsophisticated, simplistic understanding of film? His interpretation and understanding of film symbolism and meaning is like high-school film student level. And Hal, learn how to fucken state a contention and develop an argument by elaborating points and not repeating the same thing over and over like you have a brain injury. Get your shit together ScreenJunkies.

***** I would never waste my time getting a degree in film, however personally I believe that if someone such as Jahns is claiming to be a 'professional film critic' then they should probably be able to understand the subtleties and layers of films? Anyone who advocates that Crash treats the subject of racism with subtlety and intelligence is a moron. It is heavy-handed, obvious and pandering; the exact kind of film that American audiences absorb like a sponge because every man and his dog can identify the overt 'good message' the movie promotes e.g. American Sniper.

I'm totally not understanding all the Jeremy Jahns hate in the comment section. He was on a weird episode and he was THE LEAST AGGRESSIVE of any of them. There was a room of blatantly aggressive people and he was the one just making little equips. How was he the douche bag in that room?

He made silly, uninformed arguments. He was at first just being rude and undermining Hal while the guys speaking but then he seemed to just switch off and not give a damn. However, he was nowhere near as annoying as Kristian.

But everyone was either being rude, aggressive or passive aggressive. They were all hostile. They were all dicks. They were all douche bags. They just all did it differently. And based off of the other episodes I've seen, this one was just bizarre.
@einsiedler9720
@einsiedler9720 9 жыл бұрын
IStehSHIT To be fair his "passive aggressive" comments were intended as jokes, and jokes that seem to be pretty inline with the style of his other videos. It's not like he was acting all that out of character, he was just bringing what he had to the table. Granted the energy/assertiveness the rest of the crew and sometimes Kristian brought to the table didn't exactly allow him to come out of his shell, but i still think it was a great episode and would love to see him back on the show. Hell, the tag-team idea was actually pretty fun. But i'd like to see a tag-team between schmoes and screen junkies, or at least some of the junkies (pretty sure they outnumber schmoes)
@IStehSHIT
@IStehSHIT 9 жыл бұрын
Ein Siedler "...didn't exactly allow him to come out of his shell" take that sentence and ad "he was filled with some kind of preashure/rage" and you have an arrogant guy being passive agressive. That was exactly what he was, and that's why he didn't get to make an argument, not because he can't make arguments, but because he was hindered by the fact that he was closed up duche

The Hobbit movies sucked. The hobbit got sidelined in his own trilogy so they could jam pack in all of these other completely unnecessary and bloated storylines like Gandalf's adventures, that love triangle, Legolas' crap, all of that CGI crap that was basically all of the 3rd movie, so many other characters jammed in that were unnecessary and made stupidly over the top. I could rant for hours about how badly the hobbit movies suck!!

Never been dissapointed soo much with screen junkies team... You wasted the best opportunity you had by trying to blind side Jeremy and Kristian with that tag team thing, and totally spiraled down from there... Jeremy is guy who has his own views and ways, forcing him to team up on spot with anyone,(yes forcing because you caused it) would only result in him becoming quiet and quirky... And the way you shouted and nicpicked your way through your arguments... It felt like a group of hormones filled teenagers... You really ruined your opportunity... If I were in Jeremy's shoes I'd never return to your show.. The same arguments could have been made in a very much more dignified way like you guys usually do... Except when it counted...

Schmoes Know gave The Hobbit 1 a 4/5 and 4.75/5; The Hobbit 2 a 4/5 and 4.5/5; and The Hobbit 3 a 3.8/5 and 3.8/5. Chris Stuckmann gave The Hobbit 1 a B-; The Hobbit 2 an A-; and The Hobbit 3 an A-. The Flick Pick gave them the exact same grades as Chris. So, just to be clear, Hal...you're saying that ALL of those reviewers are THAT off and wrong about a trilogy of movies. Really?

James Edward Have you ever watched the show? To me it seems that the contenders don't know that and don't care either. And since when are fights civilised? What do you do in a civilised fight, try to not hit to hard or intentionally miss a few punches? I would be bored to death if they wouldn't take the fights by all available means serious, or else it would look fake. That's what makes it fun. Every time someone gets emotional and passionate, I have a blast. You probably mistake *Movie Fights* for an afternoon coffee party, it seems.

James Edward I disagree. All the other shows on Screen Junkies, schmoesknow, Popcorn Talk,*****, Chris Stuckmann, comicbookgirl19, *****, ***** and so on, are meant to inform people and to transfer opinions. The main purpose of Movie Fights is to entertain the audience with one of the most archaic concepts of entertainment in earths history...fights. The main weapon is movie nerd knowledge. The goal is to win in any and every way possible, because in the end, there is the belt. Don't take Movie Fights to serious. Have more fun!

For the question of "Best movie with the word "Movie" in it" I would've said The Lego Movie. Yes, it is essentially a huge commercial, but it's a sweet underdog story which appeals both to grown adults and little kids. It has heart, action, humor, some drama and it also has one of the best endings I've ever seen recently in a movie.

This was the hardest episode to sit through. The tag team set up was not handled well, and the screen junkies team was obnoxious to listen to. Harloff did get annoying but I feel that his frustration was warranted in some cases. Andy and Spencer constantly bringing up how it was two versus one was a cop out considering they were the ones who decided to do a team of four in the first place. This episode was devoid of fun and was basically a giant yelling match where the larger group claimed unfairness at every turn. What really showed pettiness by the screen junkies team was when they started looking up to see if the word "movie" was in the title of Superman. Jason even said that they had thrown out a movie the day before when they decided what the options would be, so trying to get the other team's movie disqualified was just a childish move. This is the first Movie Fight that I had to watch multiple times to finish because it was so mean spirited.

I will say Harloff made good points in criticizing Hal's method of debating. Hal never says anything specific and never backs up any of his points with facts from movies, he just uses superlatives and hyperboles. I'm glad someone finally called Hal out on that.

Dave Dranow totally right, Hal never concisely argues a fact, he only argues generalizations about a film. On the hand, he's never won, so it probably doesn't matter that he argues that way because the show has never rewarded him for doing so.

Been watching Movie Fights for a few months now, culminating in this episode. It’s a great idea and format. Couple of observations. -Movie Fights regulars are always entertaining to watch (Hal, Andy, Spencer, Nick and Dan). Always funny. I’m a guy but it’s even more entertaining when female guests are invited, since they tend to make calmer and more skilful arguments. Many of the male guests, on balance, make poorer arguments (even when they seem to have expertise in the area) and devolve into shouting. -Don’t mess with the format. Movie Fights looks professional. It doesn’t when you have large numbers of people in the studio yelling whenever they want. -One of the most distracting elements (and detracts from the entertainment and interest of the show’s content) is the dynamic that is created by specific guests. This episode demonstrates this. Dan - who is usually an excellent judge and even better contestant - seemed to give way to certain panellists in his comments (“This is really, really close”, when to anyone watching it wasn’t) and in awarding points. When you invite guests with their own large following onto the show they bring their egos with them. This is what happened with Jeremy Jahns. Here you have a guy with some background in film but who changed the tone of the early part of the show with snarking, off-putting tactics, playground-style insults and then just gave up through lack of interest in the second half. All Screen Junkies people did well to weather that (many defusing with humour) because it bordered on getting personal and was cringe-worthy to watch. A similar thing happens with guests to whom Screen Junkies are connected in terms of the production of the show, like the peeps of ‘Schmoes Know’. Judges feel that they need to pander to the arguments of certain people and that’s not why people watch the show. Let’s not put judges in that position. Let’s genuinely let them judge on the basis of the arguments, because they are a crucial part of the format. People won’t watch - no matter the selection of panellists - if they feel that usually thoughtful judges (Andy and Dan) are compromised.

I really think you're on to something. I love Andy, and I didn't understand a single conclusion Dan makes, and Dan is my favorite contestant on the show! I'm sure he's normally a great judge but this episode was eye-opening at how off I can view an episode. I think for the reasons stated above this was the case. Thanks, Unbenighted

@Unbenighted
@Unbenighted 9 жыл бұрын
In respect to the female guests - totally, they are not immune to dumb arguments either. Sometimes the format of the show forces all contestants into such positions. Schindler's List, for example, is becoming like one of those cards in a Top Trumps deck that cannot be beaten, forcing other panellists to champion films that pale in comparison. In general though - and this is excluding the 'male' (at this stage) regulars who largely make up the show - the female guest panellists tend to create the more interesting arguments. If you look back they tend to use evidence, build on each other's arguments, use those arguments against one another and tend to create a more thoughtful programme. Which is great, if it is the discussion of film that you are into. The male guests and sometimes the regulars, quite often devolve into shouting and mock testosterone-fuelled threats. While this can be entertaining, this sort of thing can be found all over the internet. If that frat-style approach is your thing, you are already well served on the web. I just don't think that it what Screen Junkies started out wanting to do. I hope they don't wander into that. I also hope that they will pick their panellists carefully. A mixture of old faces and new try-outs, rather than getting people on the basis of internet polling. Apparently lots of people wanted Jeremy Jahns and he was a huge disappointment - and I barely know who he is. Get people - male or female - with passion that will translate well into entertainment during the show. Jahns looked like he was doing them a favour or something by even deigning to respond to the invitation. If he had really brought it - then okay... but he didn't or couldn't so let's see some other people.

I really hope they don't bring Kristian Harloff back for anything else. He just got so butt-hurt and his yelling was unbearable. I watch movie fights for the mostly intellectual and insightful debates on movies with the occasional Mundy madness (in which there is quite often some very convincing arguments), not brutish yelling and screaming. I came extremely close to just closing the video when he screamed "waaaah waaaah" in response to an argument. Don't bring him back he ruins the show and everyone's eardrums.

We get to revisit those places and characters, and no matter how close to the book they are, for me it's the characters, the landscapes, the soundtrack... not how close the dialogue is to the original.

I'd like to make a suggestion, in case anyone from screen junkies actually reads this: please change how you accept arguments made. 80% of the time, people are spending their energy simply tearing down the opponent's argument instead of making their own position stronger. I get that it's a "fight" but you guys can't seem to resolve if you're debating in the pure sense of the term or are going to do whatever you can to win, which most of the time seems to be to present a weak argument and then spend the bulk of the time deconstructing the opposing view just to compensate. This leads to people squawking and talking over each other, which does not make for pleasant viewing or listening.

Rowan Andrew I think what Crystal's trying to say is that there's no reason for it to be rebooted. It was a well-executed movie, we know the story, we know what it's about, we know what happens, it's not a universe that we can explore, and it's just one of those movies that was perfect for it's time. I think a reboot would be completely unnecessary and I don't think it would be received very well with how movies are done today.

I'm actually a little offended that Jurassic Park beat Schindler's List. When Hal said, "Spielberg took a ginormous chance with Schindler's List" and Harloff interrupted that he took a ginormous chance with Jurassic Park I don't think he realized the extent of what he was saying... Schindler's List represents an unbelievable horror that took place in history and Jurassic Park is about dinosaurs. Are you kidding me? And since it's okay to say Fuck, Chris Pratt, I'm going to say Fuck, Harloff.

A little aggressive, but I agree, Harloff was too aggressive. They were talking so much more than Hal, and were also not arguing based on content, but rather success. Also, in the closing argument, Jeremy says "With a story you will listen to more than Schindler's List", I was like, no, just no.

Seth Rivas thank you so much, man! exactly how I feel.. i was just kind of shaking my head.. and I feel like they were bullying Hal to be honest, like I know Hal can fight his own battles but everyone on this show is a total dick to him when he has a lot of great points and ideas

Dans Eliot I get that, but I feel like Hal was cheated. They steered him away from the argument for the movie itself. Instead they argued about success, which got off of Hal's main points which were about great content. Content > Money. That's what I think.

The third hobbit sucked. Really sucked. 1. Bilbo was hardly in a movie about bilbo 2. CGI was god awful 3. Love triangle was pathetic and failed miserably 4.smaug died in 5 mins of the movie 5. Pathetic attempt at comic relief with that lake town character 6. Some action scenes (especially legolas) were unbelievably bad 7. Orcs were reduced from being frightening enemy's to almost nothing with orcs being killed with ease. I really, really wanting to like but I couldnt.

Good point. Not history but it took history and put a new spin on it. You learn a lot of actual history during the movie. Sure masons are a bunch of conspiracy theorist crackpots but it was interesting, had a good plot, great cast, well directed, you get involved in the movie and even though you know it's fake it's an adventure story you wish were true. And it's the only movie I've liked cage in in a while

OMG what a mess! It was entertaining to watch, don't get me wrong, but so confusing at the same time. Also, the fact that it was 2 versus 1 didn't feel right, if one team can have 2 members fighting, then the other team should too. I didn't know Jeremy Jahns prior to this, but for a super guest star that everybody asked for, he seemed "underused". Harloff did all the talking. I like the more structured shows, but one crazy freebie once in a while is fun. Just at least talk about it with each other before taping the show ;)
