UPS is very hard to get into.. they have the lowest turnover ratio in the industry. That tells you how good they're.

I think you have a better shot at it nowadays. I got really lucky with the (sad to say) pandemic and UPS was just looking for warm bodies to make deliveries 🚚. I’m now an OTR sleeper team driver with his own route, leave Monday nights be back by Friday morning, afternoon the latest, cleared $100k this year and I haven’t even been there 3 years. It’s the last job I’ll ever need…….but yeah when I talk to the old schools it used to be a loooooong process

Can be on call/local, or Otr. Max pay is $45hr at 4yrs. Overtime everyday after 8hrs. Pull doubles .50cent extra for the entire day. Work Saturday as your 6 day the entire day is all overtime. Sundays is double time. Pension, 401 and free insurance. Top otr driver can make $190k plus. Local max drives can hit 100k -140k. 8-14hr days depending on the route. Easiest job ever. However, seniority can make it difficult because no one wants to retire from the place. Each location can vary due to union contracts.

I just built a bar in a guys house who lives alone in a 800,000 house and drives a brand new corvette in Scottsdale that drives ups semi trucks from the airport. He’s been there like 25 years but still it’s crazy that they pay people that well. Good for them, makes me want to use them over places like amazon that treat everyone like trash.

As far as UPS Atlanta. New drivers are Brown automatically. You start off on cover board and you’re able to bid on routes where you cover routes for call outs or vacations. Some senior drivers prefer to stay on cover board instead of dedicated routes.. Annual bids are once a year in March starting April. New drivers don’t get sleeper routes.Sleeper routes since they are bid on pretty goes to senior guys, the only way new drivers can get on sleeper is if they somehow a senior driver picks him or her as their co-driver. Starting pay for feeder can vary but it’s $30 plus. Sleepers start at 80 cents a mile plus $35 dollars per diem for every thousand miles. You also get hourly rate for traffic delays and other kinds of delays. Money is great. First ten months driving for them from end of February to end of year made $128,000. Best decision I ever made despite having to spend 6 mos in warehouse. Some have spent less time in warehouse.

I did 1 week training at the facility, 1 week on road in browns with a mentor. Week 3, I was in a sleeper in the road making excellent money as a coverage driver. But watch out for the holidays. Nobody is allowed to schedule vacation during peak season, so there’s hardly any runs to cover.

I am a feeder driver for UPS, and some information is incorrect. The starting pay is incorrect. It’s way lower than that. Every driver for UPS starts at the bottom as far as pay unless your working your way up. A feeder driver's starting pay (with no prior ups work experience) equals a package car driver's starting pay. It’s no different. The only difference is the workload. There are specific incentives for hiring off the street that will allow you to get a 30-dollar amount. (Depending on the need for drivers). But the starting pay is nowhere close to that. Every UPS driver around the USA starts at the same amount of money. I recommend everyone to start in the warehouse, package car, feeder, then eventually pilot. You get paid more starting from the bottom and working your way up. Quick insight, we do work 12-14 hour days on the feeder side. You can be a feeder driver on the call board (new) for a couple of months to a year and still win a bid for OTR. I have noticed that a lot of drivers go in and out of that position. Either way, the 2nd best and highest-paid job (behind being a pilot) is feeder/OTR. P.S. you can clear more than 140k a year being as UPS truck driver on either side Local feeder/ OTR. It’s all in your hustle! Stay blessed truck family!

Additionally, Not only does UPS pay very well. UPS is the best trucking / and parcel company in the world. UPS not only has trucks. UPS has cargo planes which add value towards their overall business model in providing service worldwide to all their current and future customers. UPS is it. There is no one going to beat UPS! The only other competition of UPS in LTL (less-than truck load) is FEDEX. FEDEX is the largest owner of cargo planes; (625). Which makes them both the best in the industry.

I have been to a lot of companies UPS has been the best thus far , I am out of Kansas City starting pay is 30 hr you go to 47 after 4 years , we can bid weekly every Thur seniority is another battle weather you get one or not , I haven’t been there long about 8 months , you do not automatically go to sleeper after training you can get a various coverage bid and still be home daily, since I have been here I have had the option of picking rather I want to go on a sleeper run or stay local however if no one else takes it you may be forced out but that has not happened to me yet typically ppl take the runs because they pay so well you will be on sleeper intent list for 2 years after hire that means you can be forced out of needed, there is a chance you could be laid off normally within your first year but once they call you back it normally doesn’t happen anymore from my experience I missed 1 month and have been back every since however hands down best company benefits are awesome 100 percent company paid and the coverage is AWESOME Union is strong you do have a say so and they listen

Great info, wanted to add depend on ur region, some day cab feeder drivers can make up to almost 180,000 plus in my area, we have maybe one of the few longest day runs in the U.S. we run quite a few runs from St.louis,Mo to almost Tulsa OK. About 700miles down hwy 44 and back up. Anything over 500miles turnaround they pay mileage. But those particular brown tractors turned up to about 73mph get dwn their and back, weather pending. The 68mph smaller run tractors never make it back. But like you said certain big pay runs too senior drivers hold and this run here, most of these guys have 35yrs minimum. Every region/supplement in the country is paid differently due to the fact that we get compensated based on a CBA that the union negotiates every several years. There are some lucky people out there that get hired off the street but it is rare, but best way to become a Feeder driver is to do your time in the building and bid into package car, do your time there and then bid into Feeders. Be on call which does include nights for several years in some cases to finally make seniority. Pay and benefits are 2nd to none but you do work excessive hours, most of the time you will have to go through a pay progression that tops out after the 4th year. Bottom line, being a CDL A driver at ups can be very lucrative but you will have to sacrifice time and possibly take a pay cut to get there.
@imanthonytv

Yep..that’s how it’s always been at the location where I live. Start in the warehouse and work your way up which for most adults will be a significant pay cut. Particularly for those who have major financial obligations. Most just aren’t in a position to make that type of sacrifice financially for possibly years. Nonetheless, becoming a feeder driver is a good job with good pay.

I went at the quees location NY but the guy that was doing the welcome speech, took my license and start making jokes in front of the class cuz i had a new license, and only had 3 month of experience with a beer company.. i didn't like it and took my licenses from his hand and told him maybe i drive better than you.. and i left the room.. if they start with disrespect imaginate the end.. but if they changed the system good for them that happened like 10 years ago.

I have 2 years experience as a class A driver with all endorsements. Can I just apply as a truck driver or do I have to work in the warehouse first?

Depends on location. I’ve seen some guy’s say they were hired off the street but in most cases you will have to start in the warehouse. Union jobs are highly seniority based. Especially UPS. It’s worth a shot though. Go for it!

UPS is great! However UNIONIZED carhaul pays MORE. $1.54 / mile headhaul and frozen rate $1.29 for Backhaul.

The only thing with them from what I heard you have to start at the bottom and go through the warehouse before you can drive for them. Idk

Mostly accurate. UPS hires drivers off the street but the union contract has it so that only one person off the street is hired for every six UPS warehouse employees that move up from warehouse to driver.

No, one of sure. More about the bs to pay ratio differences when choosing. Gotta find your balance, if its ever only about max money, you will be stuck in some bs you don't want eventually.

Here in Chicago the package car driver, makes a much as the feeder driver. A lot of drivers stay with package because they got good seniority & don’t want to drive over night

@@MJ-xk8iu Here they get a extra dollar a hour and if they pull duel trailers it's a extra 50 cents a hr on top of that. I think some drivers in the New England states get even more.

Yep..starting in the warehouse is a sacrifice that many people can’t afford to make if they’re older. Unless they work there part time while having another gig on the side. One of my barbers son started working in the warehouse at 18 now he’s 21 and just started driving.

Yes they got rid of UPS Freight. Not UPS Feeder drivers (also truck drivers). UPS Freight is now T Force. UPS Freight was more like a sister company. This video is talking about UPS Feeder drivers (package division).
