I loved your video. As a child I was asked to help my peers to read. Now my son was asked to do the same and my heart dropped. He is also having trouble connecting to others. At least I can understand what he is going through. Really cool to see a mom I can relate to.

Yea, I do think that sometimes we want to make it all better and quick but it's just not that easy. I pray that God will provide you wisdom as you navigate this with your son. I'm glad you found the video helpful!

You are completely describing one of my children right now. I don’t even know how she handled going to public school. She is definitely the most appreciative of homeschooling among my kids.

It’s so great that you’re able to homeschool her! Knowing what I know now about what homeschool is and what it looks like, had I had the choice I would’ve opted for it.

This was such a necessary video, and thanks for being so vulnerable and sharing such difficult times from your adolescence with us. I see so many parallels in my own academic journey in public school that you mentioned. Literally, mom guilt hit me hard here as a mother to another gifted kid. Stopping to ask myself, "am I being what I needed" I think is something I'm going to have to incorporate a lot more from now on. I actually think that's just fantastic parental advice in general, so thank you 💛 I might have to make a video like this myself.

That's a really great practice to have! You're right in that it is something that could really apply to parenting in general. You should make a video! There are a lot of parents of gifted kids who feel pretty lost in how to approach certain things with them, so hearing from adults like ourselves I think can be really helpful.

I was a gifted kid and my oldest daughter is too. I can definitely relate.

That’s great that you recognized it! I’ve heard the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree in the instance at least one parent is gifted lol I’m pretty sure our 2nd oldest is gifted, our oldest I THINK may be gifted but am not 100% sure with him. It wasn’t until adulthood that I learned giftedness is actually a type of neurodivergence.

Good topic! This is why it is so important to talk with your children and allow them to express their feelings, because these experiences happen very often to a lot of people. Unfortunately, it may even continue into adulthood. I teach my children life skills using the Word of God and it has been very helpful to them. Thank you for sharing!❤

Absolutely! I have and admittedly still struggle with certain aspects of giftedness even as an adult. I will say that acquiring a better understanding of my identity in Christ has helped me a lot.

Thank you so much for sharing your personal story! Makes my own story make more sense ironically! I think this why growth mindset is so important!

Yep! With proper nurturing of natural abilities and support for getting through those struggle points, gifted kids can absolutely thrive.

This video resonates with me. My son just had a conversation with me about this. He basically said some of the things you said verbatim. Especially when it comes to having conversations with his peers. I'm going to look more into this. Thank you for posting!
