The plaintiff says she’s known the defendant since he was a teen, so she hired him to install a security gate at her home. She claims he never lifted a finger and is giving her the runaround, so she’s suing for her money back. The defendant says he couldn’t install the gate because it rained for days.

My mother is a painter. She plans for 3-4 months ahead. She will work overtime if there's ever any overlap, but she always makes sure to provide ample time to complete a project. She does not overschedule, even if a potential client is upset because she won't come. paint their house next week. Bad painters, bad contractors, they overschedule because don't want to lose that money. Good contractors will tell you when work can be done and start when they promise. A good contractor will not purposely overschedule.

The only problem the plaintiff had with this contractor was the time- he took a long time to finish the job. She will have to deal with other contractors in the future that will really get her, and then she will really know what problems people have with contractors. And she’ll realize that the defendant was good in comparison. She only dealt with one, and her expectation were too much.

Just FYI, in many languages and some English dialects, two negatives do not cancel, they intensify the negativity of the comment. In fact,, double negatives were considered “standard English” until the late 18th century, when a dowdy bishop in the Church of England decided it shouldn’t be. It’s still important to know language rules for one’s education, job, etc., but just know that in much of the US and the world, rule violations in conversation are not necessarily signs of illiteracy or ignorance.
