Viren believes that any problem in the world can be solved with dark magic, and thinks that once a problem is solved, it won't come back. But the costs for using it isn't worth it. He ignores the costs, side effects, or how temporarily his magic his magic solves

The moon shadow elves didn’t actually lose they did kill the king because the one of the bonding fell off which was explained in the other episode where when the boding falls off they finished the mission so they didn’t lose they finished one of their missions to kill the king but just got captured in the end.

You may not remember... it was only one line in an earlier episode... but he said he would send the message when the job was done.

Elven magic spells are Latin & Dark magic is talking backwards

Harrow being switched with his bird is one of the biggest theories of this show.

The arrow was explained in a prior episode. It's a magical message to the dragon queen to let her know they succeeded. Rayla looking between the arrow and her binding turning red and falling off is significant as to one part of the binding's function. The other is for future episodes. I think they showed Viren's actions towards Callum to show how much he places himself above even the princes and how poorly he's willing to treat them. (Note the objection from our friendly Crown Guard. Think also of the painting, Viren placing himself at the king's right hand.) There's a lot of backstory you'll learn later, but this is enough to get you started on why maybe the king is getting annoyed at his arrogance and presumption. (Also, preparing for your own death in battle is probably pretty stressful, so I can understand being a bit snippy.)

This was mentioned in a single line, but moonshadow elves are translucent under the light of the moon. Or “nearly invisible” as it’s put. My Headcanon is that there is a distortion when they move which is why they can be somewhat observed.

Remember what Rayla said when she had Callum on the ground last episode? She told him there were two targets. King Harrow and Prince Ezran. The elves bound themselves by magic to accomplish these tasks. One ribbon has fallen off as the task has been completed: the king. The second ribbon is still secured tightly. Rayla loses her hand because it keeps getting tighter and tighter.

I love the part where Callum learns that one hybrid skill where he can imbue magic into weapons, which allows him to use a form of magic as a human. It's not as strong as actual magic, but it's enough that he can keep up and has his shining moments ^^

The King and Viren's relationship is so complex because they were once lovers. When Viren used dark magic to conceive of their son, their already tenuous relationship fell apart. You felt their tension in that room, and that still lingering love in the previous episodes. Calum only knows the king is his father, but has no idea that he was born of dark magic. It is why he's able to cast spells after just seeing it done once. Magic is in his blood, but so is darkness.

The thing about Primal magic is that threre is a rhyme and reason to it. It's controling fairly natural phenomena like wind & lightning for sky magic and tricks of the light for moon magic. Dark magic is more like hacking the world and doing things that shouldn't be allowed to happen, like switching souls or turning chains into snakes. Plus, Primal magic comes from something that I can't simply explain, both for spoiler reasons and in-world reasons. Dark magic is stealing that indescribable thing from living things and twisting it into something that those without can use & most commonly abuse. To recap from that naration in the first episode, there are 6 Primal sources; The Moon, The Sky, The Sun, The Earth, The Ocean, & The Stars. And if you're used to the usual 4 elements divide, it's honesty quite fascinating to see where that divide differs from the divide between the 6 sourses. Lightning might be marked as a member of the fire family in most media, but here, it counts as sky along side the usual air attributes.

Runaan's arrow bird thing was explained in the first episode, so I don't think it's a spoiler: When the mission was complete, Runaan planned to tie the unbound ribbon to the Shadowhawk arrow and shoot it to the queen of the dragons. That's why he said "Regina Draconis" before shooting it. And the message wasn't that they had failed, but that they had succeeded.

Not much of a spoiler: With Humans, they can’t naturally do primal magic and can only do the dark magic, so yes, majority of Viren’s and Claudia’s magic is Dark magic, however they can use primal magic with primal stones, and other uses but that crosses into spoiler territory👍 Just wanted to clarify cause you seemed confused about what magic Claudia was doing with the Smoky Seekers spell. I'm gonna be completely honest, at least in my opinion, the season absolutely peaks with these first three episodes. The absolute dread and genuine tension with the coming assassination, the fear Callum feels and his choice to run feels more dramatic and adult than anything else in this season. I wish we had season three's animation here, because it would add a lot more to the weight of the battle against the assassins. Ultimately I think the only real episodes after that hold a candle to Moonrise are Season Two Episode Seven, Season Three Episode Seven, the season three finale, and the second to last episode of Season Five. That's not to say the show is bad after this, I just think this is honestly one of the shows' early peaks.

Ezren keeps hogging all of the fully loaded jelly tarts. Every time he scoops with the pastery, he over loads it with the jelly. He'd eventually hog all of the jelly and leaving Callum just pasteries. Like mostly just pasteries like nothing on them but like a little bit of the sauce and mayby one little nugget of the fruit bit. Callum wishes he were king so it'd be a law where shared food has to be shared evenly and not hog the majority of the flavored ingredients.

Harrow did have a point, even if his timing and tone could've been better, but then he was facing his doom. Viren's decisions have been pretty destructive and Harrow allowed it because of their friendship.

I feel like people must've told you already but just in case: make sure to watch the drawings during the ending credits. They show you relevant things or dumb goofs.

I just learned that the VA for Rayla makes her face reveal in Dead Boy Detectives as The Night Nurse. So if you want to see what she looks like, find a clip or watch that show. The voice doesn't match the face at all!

Re: Dark magic: On the one hand, yuck. Dark Magic. On the other hand, it's probably best not to get too judge-y about characters using it, because it's the only magic that humans know how to use (short of using a "cheat" like Claudia's primal stone), and human civilization in this world has been using it for thousands of years. I'm not saying it's *good*, just that it's... complicated.
