I have not heard someone else talk about the law of diminishing marginal returns since I took economics in college back in the early 90s. I apply it when talking about eating foods. The first slice of cake tastes great but with each additional slice you eat the level of satisfaction you get decreases.

Avocado seeds make for a fantastic bit of guerrilla gardening. Chuck a seed some place that gets a bit of shade and some water. I know of 2 avocados and a date that have somehow germinated at the retirement village near me.

Tom, remember when I said that I’m from Mozambique and I planted avocados? I got to the point that I got lazy and I started planting the entire avocados. I just let them getting over ripped and planted them. The fruit itself becomes all the nutrients needed, all inside the skin. Try it. Buried 80% and ripped. Constantly moist soil. Just remember folks, as long as there’s sun light… or artificial.

Andrew, they might have just gotten shocked from the transition from indoor to outdoor, that's quite common and they drop their leaves but then they recover just in time to go through shock again when you go outdoor back indoor. I think you might be best to keep it inside year round. Avocados can handle full sunlight.

I have to ask you a question! I was gifted a Tiny Avocado Tree about 15 or 16 years ago and no I never grafted it I was just happy to grow it because my old friend who’s no longer with us said it would give avocados. Well here I am almost 16 years later and it’s so healthy and vigorous but I never see flowers like I do here on KZfaq… it stayed in a big 25 gallon pot for maybe it’s first 6 or 7 years then one day my mom put it in the ground because I had moved out. Still this tree grows in my back yard… I just started giving it fertilizer again and it didn’t drop its leafs this winter… and is now pushing new leafs. What am I doing wrong because when growing usually less is more… but can I get this thing to flower or must I graft and I know there’s 2 different kinds of avocados… do I need to identify if it’s type A or B?

Hello from birmingham, Alabama. I started growing a seed in a cup of water. The bottom 1st little root started to peek threw. And it was starting to grow sideways...SO I CLIPPED IT😬. It's now been about 7 months and were I clipped the root turned brown stopped growing and now I have tiny SLOW growing little bean sprout looking peices trying to grow INSIDE of the seed not on the root growth.(root growth in non existence). The seed itself has 1000000% split down the middle. 1side of separated seed is halfway brown but doesn't look completely dead. And the 1st main root still hasn't grown back and is still brown. SO my question is. DO I need to throw it out and start over. Did I stunt the 1st initial root by clipping it bc it won't grow and is brown? - But the brown root is trying to grow lil bean sprout things INSIDE the split seed.Since being clipped at the 1st root NOTHING has grown down, root wise. And seed is in 2 pieces held together by green stem in middle that's growing outwards inside the seed and NOT downwards. Is it a lost cause.?? 7 months and the root isn't growing bc I clipped it 3 months in. -- Srry for the paragraph. I just don't wanna waiste if there's any chance of rehab.
