I don’t think this can even help me. I fear that the weeds have choked out all my grass. I think when I got my property I just wasn’t prepared for the heat and how bad the weeds and crab grass would take over. I see the guy who won house is on a small slope hill. My house is too and that has made the dirt tumble down away from my house. Idk what to do?

Maybe I'll try to get you up here, S.E. Mi, NE of Detroit and use mine as a project lawn. I've been in a multiple year battle with Bittercress, African Violets, Ground Ivy/Creeping Charly and moss (new to the list, bentgrass and nutsedge) the ground ivy, aftrican violets and moss are winning.

I’ve been mowing the lawn higher so I can leave it grow longer without cutting whenever there’s days without rain during the hot summer. I’ve noticed that this helps retain moisture. If there’s rain in the forecast, then I’ll mow the lawn. This way I don’t need irrigation except if there’s no rain for a long time I might have to put a sprinkler out or water by hand. I haven’t even been picking up the pine needles this summer. I’ve got a good mulching dual blade mower and this is the best my lawn has ever looked. No more bare spots like before when I was cutting it too short.

I skipped any fungal treatments this year, seems like a waste of money as much stress my non-irrigated lawn gets in the Midwest from the heat. Walking the lawn before and after mowing really helps expose any issues. Found some crabgrass that perfectly blended in with the grass, like 2-3 plants, always near the curb.

Don’t forget summer stress die off. Stressed lawn plus several inches of rain on a thick lawn where blades clump together they suffocate each other giving the lawn some brown spots. An easy detach or manually rake on spots pulls it right out. I was day 1 milo comp. Glad to be considered.

I've seen nutsedge nutlets, found it growing in an area I had filled in with cheap top soil. The fact that it was still loose let me pull it all up, it was about marble sized and attached to the end of a long, thin root.

Should be getting it soon my grass looks like dead grass from heat have weeds coming in again im really trying to fix this neglected yard on a home i purchased last year. I did premergent this spring want to overseed soon but was wondering should i fertilize or wait to overseed, post emergent? Ty ughh alot of work to try to get a better lawn feel like it should be all killed and start over but its too much work for a newbie like me. What mostly happens is people can’t cut late at night in fear of late noise and they don’t water enough. Oscillator will take 4 hours for a 1/2” of coverage with more in some spots. You need to do this twice a week at 5-9 am. Cut the night before those water days. Cut above 2.5” of blade.

I think it would be better to physically cut it all out and resod. (or seed) - especially heading into the fall time, bermuda won't have enough sunlight or warm temps to come back that fast./ Then going forward into 2023 you can use that chem to keep the small invasions at bay.

As a fellow Michigander but on the east side, bent grass patches are quite common to see especially in older neighborhoods. One of my neighbors there whole backyard is bent but it stays wet so it loves life. I mean like half of my backyard is bent too now since I started mowing it short a couple years ago. Originally its was just a hoge poge of all the cool season grass. Now from cutting at 1in-1.5 over a few years its mostly just the bent and some blue and rye thats still there all the tttf phased out. Interesting because the bent seems more tolerant of less water than the blue. Like the blue checked out a while ago yet the bent was just starting to check out last week. Now this past wed and thurs we got 4in of rain brought everything back

@@Thelawncarenut oh yeah it stands up it loves the 1in cut and isn’t leggy looking and it’s probably the best barefoot grass ever it’s so soft. Honestly it surprises me how well it does considering I don’t really care for it much besides keep it mowed often. And maybe once or twice a year fert

I was listening to the podcast this morning and heard your take on the 30% approach. I have more than 30% turf however it is also infested with orchard grass. I feel like a full burn down is the only way, as I think orchard grass will always outcompete TTTF. Is my assessment correct? Thanks LCN.

I live in Texas and this year my grass is very bad. I have St.Augustine grass but I did not fertilize. I feel that my grass has been destroyed by some type of chemical that was put on my lawn to keep it from looking good. Everyone in my neighborhood have green grass except me. I usually have a beautiful lush yard. I need help my grass is so dry you can see the ground. I am a female who know nothing about my grass other than getting it cut.
