I’m a Detroiter, live here, retired from the Fire Department here and currently working IN Detroit. Most people outside of the Midwest don’t have a clue about my city and it really is easy to kick a city when it’s down. I’m grateful you men did a podcast about Detroit, how nice people really are, our unique history and dope AF restaurants so people outside of the Midwest can actually get an idea of what’s happening. Already liked and subscribed, so here's a comment: Smelting is part of the refining process, and ore smelting takes place in a blast furnace. A foundry is more about production, and is where already-refined metals are melted down and poured/cast into various raw parts and other items. Love you guys!

I lived in Battlecreek michigan not far from Detroit whe I was at WMU doing flight training. I loved the place being a petrolhead sure their was bad places same as any other city but I'm always glad I've stayed in dodgy areas. It shows you that it isn't all bad people most are very nice folk just making the best of a bad situation. The poorer the area the more generous people are ive found, ask someone on wall Street for the time or direction they'll tell you to f off if they even answer you at all

I worked at the animatics company that did the 3d mockup of that commercial before they filmed it! They did two sequels in the following years, and I directed the animatics for one with Will and Jaden Smith, but it got cancelled lol

As a Detroit metro resident whos wife is a teacher, Detroit public schools are still basically segregated, underfunded, and in such desperate need of teachers that they will hire teachers without any sort of college education or teaching certification. Its pretty sad and quite fucked.

I have some suggestions for stories to do on the show. First of all the story of studebaker, from coaches to coupes. If you don’t wanna do the history of their entire company then at least do it on the avanti, it held the world speed record for 1 or 2 years and was the second car with factory disc brakes. It also came with a supercharged 289 v8 pushing 400 horsepower and was worked on by John delorean which used what he learned from the avanti in his making of the GTO. Another great story would be, Daring the Darian a story of a pack of 1960 Corvair’s that crossed the dense jungle Panama into Columbia. A could other story’s about the corvair would be don yenkos stingers that he made and the legal battle Chevrolet had with Ralph Nader over his claims of it being unsafe (which it wasn’t trust me I have one and it may under steer at low speeds because of a 60-40 weight distribution because of the rear engine placement but it feels perfectly fine)

Auto tempest doesn't seem to search craigslist for me or any local small dealerships. They only pull up results from big places like true car and ebay and car max which are all expensive.

We don't search craigslist directly. (They don't have an API or allow scraping.) What we do is work out a set of craigslist links to cover your search area (even if it's larger than the few hundred miles they support in a single search), and give you links directly to matching search results from those regions. So it saves you the hassle of entering the same search in multiple places. Not quite as nice as if we could include the results directly, but since we can't, hopefully better than nothing!

Ironically, I find myself referring to country of origin on vehicles all the time as a mechanic! I refuse to work on German cars specifically, I tell all of my clients and customers to stick with Japanese cars for reliability and that American cars ever since the '80s are guaranteed to Fall apart at a regular predetermined and intentionally engineered interval.
