That chipping is exactly like I’ve seen on several wartime photos of hard-used P-38s. Well done.

Thanks for this, I needed it today. I would have never thought of using Novus that way. May not have given the results you were looking for but still very useful. I tried one of those airbrushes last year and returned it. After a minute or two of spraying paint would be dripping off the needle or crown cap. If I took that cap off then there would be a little cloud of paint around wherever I was painting. For example, if you tried to pull a line with it you could get a nice line but you could see the overspray on either side. No matter what paint, how it was thinned or what air pressure. I use a 289 for the type of painting you're doing. Took a little adjustment with the longer front end but I found that it helps reaching into smaller or tight areas. Oh well, just rambling. Thanks for all you do.

Excellent results as always. I have a couple of questions. How do you transfer the hairspray liquid to the airbrush? Also how you can chip a lacquer based color with such ease? If my memory serves me well, the undercoat is a lacquer based also color (LP11), which makes it more difficult or rather impossible to chip over with the same thinner as its top coat? I am trying to understand how you can achieve such a good result in chipping two chemically identical liquids. My apologies If I missed something in between your excellent tutorial.

Great work Matt - some really interesting techniques to try out in this video. Couple of questions about the PS-771: Is it a revision of the PS-770? Are the parts interchangeable? I bought the PS-770 based on your review and can't find dedicated parts for it here in the UK, but can find ones for the 771. Thanks, and can't wait to see the next update!

Excellent attention to detail...I would only offer on tiny bit of advice. If you would use a neutral gray for your table top your videos would be better. Otherwise you are a fantastic modeler. I noticed when you used the light purple shield while painting I could really see what you were doing.

I really like the hairspray chipping effects around the cockpit. A couple of questions. How long can you leave the hairspray before it won't chip any longer? Did you pretty much chip the Mr Color OD as soon as it was dry?
@DoogsModels
@DoogsModels 3 жыл бұрын
It's not so much the hairspray as the paint on top of it. With MRP and Gunze I try to chip more or less immediately. The longer you leave it to dry the more the small, irregular chips become more like uniform little circles.

I’m curious about your gun cleaning habits. Your passion for painting shows in the results. For me, painting is my least favorite part of modeling because I feel like 85% of my time is spent on prepping the model and cleaning the gun. It kinda kills the MoJo. So many kits come to a standstill (just before paint)because I dread cleaning the gun. What’s your secret, gun cleaning habits? (Maybe I’m working to hard)
@DoogsModels
@DoogsModels 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah you're definitely working too hard. This post is several years old now, but pretty much still holds. doogsmodels.com/2016/09/09/airbrushing-cleaning-the-damn-thing/ Basically my secret is spraying thin and spraying mostly lacquers (or lacquer-thinned things). During an average bench session where I'm using the airbrush, I'd estimate I spend about 10 minutes top dealing with cleaning the airbrush. I'll usually pull and clean the needle right before I start painting, run a bit of thinner through it, and then go to work. At the end, I do the same thing in reverse. After colors, I'll do a fill/swab pass with a q-tip, flush that, do another half-cup or quarter cup, hit the area around the needle channel with an old paintbrush, and flush again. That's pretty much it.

Thank you sir! Ask the right question and get good answer. It’s cool I’m also doing a “operation torch” model. I’ll be following along closely. I’m not quite at the level of”tone shadowing” but I’m going to try some chipping effects for the first time. As Max would say”Model On!” Thanks again this is such an amazing hobby! JC. : )
