I'm not a guitarist so sorry for the newbie question, but is he no longer able to easily play chords with his fret hand or did he just use a slide for this one song? Although I saw that he switched to chords towards the end. Anyway cool that he's still playing and performing and at the Whiskey a Go-Go no less, where the Doors were the house band and launched their amazing career. Does he ever still jam with John Densmore?
@SensoryEdge Жыл бұрын
Robby can still play chords... when you have multiple musicians on stage, you can't all play full chords or the sound gets muddy. The drums and bass player are keeping rhythm and time. The keyboard is probably playing chords and fills. Orianthi is taking most of the lead and Robby is doing slide, some lead and fills. Chords and rhythm are the easier part of guitar playing. Slide is tough.
@57Omegan Жыл бұрын
Robby moved to slide midway thru the set for Waiting For The Sun. He changed guitars at that point, then changed once more towards the end of the show.

Great video, thanks for posting! The Doors were great and Robbie is a living legend. It must have been amazing to see him in person. I wish that I was there too. But wow, his technical guitar ability is that of a child who started taking guitar lessons a few weeks ago. He's shockingly incompetent at his instrument. I know he was never considered to be an amazing guitarist but this is difficult to watch. Doesn't he have loved ones around him to gently let him know that he's embarrassing himself and he needs a ride back to the nursing home? With that said he is a living legend and super groovy ... daddio ... 🎸
@davejohnson-yi2rk3 ай бұрын
Well, wearing those pants was terribly snarky, I'll agree. Also, I CAN'T STAND the Jim Morrison wannabe. He's trying way too hard and he looks ridiculous in the shades and black glasses. I could also have done without Oriantha on stage in her ridiculous get-up. She doesn't add anything and unless she's a friend of the band, I don't see how her presence contributes anything. Having said all this, there's absolutely nothing wrong with Krieger's playing. It's what happens when you have a free wheeling jam like song that goes too long with a motley crew of people who perhaps didn't practice more than a few times, but mainly, this is what happens when you take a 3 mins song and stretch it way past it's intended running time. But your disparaging Robbie is way sadder than anything about him (" Doesn't he have loved ones around him to gently let him know that he's embarrassing himself and he needs a ride back to the nursing home?") is pathetic. He's doing what he likes. He looks like he's doing pretty well for a 78 year old, is a millionaire many times over, and wrote some Rock classics. What have you accomplished?

Seen him with Ray bk in Athens Lycabettus. Did not like the absence of JD and the replacement of JM by the STP guy but when the 2 original members got to play LA Woman without the rest geez what an experience...the Doors were a group not individual egos and R is utterly underestimated
@zigzagwanderer95312 ай бұрын
Robbie is classically trained in flamenco guitar and teaches. His playing has always tastefully served the songs. Robbie Kreiger is always surrounded by loved ones, a nation of them. He's sown love always, including here. He's not trying to be elected, this is a great showcase for the young musicians next to him. The Gen Love still stands for these values, though some need re-grooving stat.

To the detractors in the comments: Punk rockers like Ramones/Pistols could barely play instruments, but the energy exchange with audiences made the shows an event. Feel/soul is the point... not technical perfection, not extended ego solos. I imagine the audience left feeling they experienced something special, something raw from the heart and created just for them on this night only. Ladies probably became pregnant later that night. I've experienced the feeling with Warren Zevon, Jackson Brown and The Byrds (Gene Clark and all star friends, FL Theater) in smaller venues. No firepots, explosives or pigs on the wing needed.

Great to See Robbie -- not a lot of musician togetherness or communication - more look at me me me - Robbie is the conductor and the others should be more on the ball.. The Jim wanna be singer is singing over Robbie and cutting him off at the beginning her tells the bass player to get the harp player out of the way this would happen naturally .... more interested in sucking up to the female guitar player .. my 2 cents no one wanted :)

Yes the girl is good, fast, and right on the scale frame, however, Robby has his own melody in his brain, his structure is simple but unique. And this girl the minute she took off she immitated every other lead guitar, her riffs were standard, fast, clean but standard, nothing unique. All young lead guitar players do exactly the same. The minute he said "Do it Robbie", She took off. "Tah da tah daaah ta dah dah da ta dah da da tah duh" . The same exact thing they all do, nothing original. I understand, I have done the same. And I have performed this song many times. Robbie has his own entro and melody.
