1. Get rid of the bad shit that happened to you in the past asap. 2. It's ok to lose friends. 3. Choose your friends and relationships wisely. 4. It's completely ok to have no friends. 5. Think before investing too much into specific friends and relationships. 6. Invest in your financial health, physical health and mental health to prevent yourself before getting any issues. 7. Maintain you shape 8. Use all opportunities before you start regretting. 9. Plan trips and have fun instead of playing video games. 10. Do before it's too late. 11. Live the best life you can live and try to be happy as you can be 12. Do whatever brings you joy.

Richie! So nice to see a young person who is open to hearing from us "old" folks. I feel like I was 20 yesterday, but I'm 35. My first piece of advice is to live your life to the fullest while you're young. Age is going to be here before you know it, so don't waste your youth. Use your body. Get outside. Be naïve and explore. At the same time though, start saving as much as you can. Put money into a Vanguard Index fund, or whatever flavor of investment works for you, and leave it there. Start with $20 if that's all you have, Fidelity and other firms allow for fractional shares. Trust me, if you start early you will thank me in your 30s and 40s. Have fun, live your life, and understand this - The worst feeling in the word is regret.

One more piece of advice which billionaire Charlie Munger echoed, be very careful who you choose to be your spouse. If you pick the wrong person, someone who is quarrelsome, moody, wasteful with money, always careless, selfish, vindictive...etc they will lead to your downfall and destroy your child's life which means you caused that suffering to your would be innocent baby as they grow up, you are the one enabling EVIL. There are always signs if you live with a fiance for at least minimum 3-5 years but ideally no less than 7 years where you make sure the girl uses DAILY BIRTH CONTROL PILLS, the man uses a condom and use 1 Plan B pill after each time having sex. Nothing is more crucial in life than not missing the birth control pill daily.

At 32 my biggest advice is: 1. Don't do stuff that makes you feel bad about yourself. Recognizing short-term happiness loops that are actually making you overall unhappy and steering clear of them is paramount. 2. Intake comedy daily and try to be comedic yourself, it really lightens up life and also increases your intelligence. 3. Stay physically healthy. You don't have to be a bodybuilder but at least work to keep your posture upright and your muscles functionally strong. 4. Don't lock yourself into a 9-5 job loop. Even if you manage to, know that you can quit and reinvent yourself whenever you want. Chasing money at the expense of your time and happiness is how you lose yourself. Taking a month off of work and spending 1/4th of my bank account to travel was one of the best decisions I ever made. 5. Don't ignore your problems.

I'm 37 and I agree with everything you've said. And I'd add two more things: 1. In your 20s or even teens, you'll probably meet some girl who you'll fall deply in love with, but she won't reciprocate those feelings. Then you'll feel miserable, be depressed, try to drink away the pain or even take drugs to escape the reality, and spend time thinking about how to make her yours. Fuck that. She's not worth the pain and you'll realise when you're older that she wasn't even as good as you had perceived her, and you probably wouldn't have even matched. 2. Don't try to be someone you're not. If you are introverted and interested in IT, or nature, or history, or anything else that doesn't look cool to most of your peers, then enjoy doing those things. Don't try to be the cool guy who goes clubbing and gets all the girls. You won't become that cool guy, and you'll waste your time that you could have used for something you truly like.

Truth! I spent my 20s and 30s working a dead end job as an attorney. I never really wanted to be a lawyer so I never took myself seriously but I was comfortable enough making money that I stayed with it for 15 years. Eventually, I got tired of having a dead end career in law and I decided to close that chapter restart my career as a dentist. It's been 4 years since I made that change and I have a couple more years of school left so I'll be starting fresh in my early 40s but I learned a great deal about myself along the way. Sometimes when you're young you don't have a capacity (mental or emotional) to do what you're ultimately going to end up doing. But the key is to keep growing and working toward something. I see my friends who are financially better off than me but I'll get there eventually. It just means more saving and investing and focusing on what really matters. Thank you for this video, it will help a lot of young guys out there.

@@JJFlores25 That is great to hear, I wish I started learning it at 23 but I had a self-defeating attitude and did not know the first place to start. I initially started to learn how to code at 21 but I just had analysis paralysis and did not know where to start and would change so often that It stoped me from moving forward this time around I found the direction I wanted to take and stuck to the road map. It is important to lean on your support system because from time to time you might feel like you’re not good but even that we like we will persevere. The one thing that my bootcamp taught us was the importance of linkedin. It has a great community of developers with individuals who all are learning to code. It is important because linkedin is the first place recruiters go to for talent. Second would be go to meet ups because that is how you can connect with people face-to-face/zoom-to-zoom. I have learned a lot from meetups and that is the best way to show your presence in your community. Also apply to internships/jobs even if you do not feel ready because often times you wont but oppotunities fly fast and you will miss it. You want to create a landing page so that you have a easy way for people to see you best projects and often times from what I heard the technical interviews they might ask you about it. Learn data structures and algorithms. Let me know if you have any questions.

I am the same age as you and it is absolutely true that I've wasted too much time, gaming, hanging with friends doing absolutely nothing but chilling, and non-sense lifestyle. In my 20's it was all party and no regrets. Completing college degree, finding a career or learning a skill that matters I didn't care to complete any. Now that I finally wifed up, have a toddler, completed my Bachelors at 34 years of age and landing a programming job making good money, I want to kick myself on how much time I wasted. Yes I am in a better position then I was but I wasted a solid decade plus of my youth on basically bullshit. Life is short. Stop gaming all day, stop watching KZfaq, Tik-Tok and other social media platforms. Take risks bc the worst that can happen if you fail is learning a valuable lesson and move on then not to risk anything at all to have life pass you by.
@camfre4k

The worst thing that can happen is a valuable lesson? What about getting a debt that you’ll never be able to pay off, resulting in never getting you finanses in check? Living a life where you struggle to even pay your rent while working a dead end job ? “Just quit”… well yeah, then after a month or two you can go live in your car if you even have one. Finding another dead end job. The risk can be massive. Of course I get that you sometimes have to do something that gets you out of your comfort zone, but if I for example wanted to start my own company, there are more things to worry about than just a “valuable lesson”

I spent my entire 20s trying to start a career. I never performed well in school due to having ADHD, but I was still desperate to start a career ASAP after high school. I attended multiple colleges and tried 4 different fields of study across 10 years before finally landing on a career in tech at the age of 28. I struggled for an entire decade just to get started, while I watched all my friends and colleagues climb the corporate ladder and start families. It was hard. However, I wouldn't say I wasted my 20s, because I hustled hard and did my best. I'm grateful for where I am now. If you're in your 20s, looking to start a career, and you don't have the same difficulties in school as I did, I really hope you take the plunge and don't waste any time. The earlier you're able to start, the better, because you don't want to be 30 years old like me and just getting started.

All the skills that I could have learned, perhaps even finishing my Electronic Engineering degree instead of dropping out year 2. Hoping to turn my life around in my 30's, currently living with my parents and working as a chef whilst learning to code. you got this dan. likewise im in a similar situation that is an interesting foil to yours. also just hit 30 , and have racked up a disgusting amount of student debt (50k) but ive been in school most my adult life. 9-10years. was raised to be a doctor but couldnt do it. floundered around in school kuz there was pressure to get degrees. compensated hard by studying arts instead. finally got a design degree at an art school. bad market. bad wages. which leads to bad mental health. smokrd weed as things got dark near the end of art school. weed has probably saved my life. recently moved out, as i realized after a year of therapy that living with my parents was affecting everyones mental health and that i was equally part of the problem. unlike you, i seemingly did everything "youre supposed to do" . yet we all find ourselves in the same place. life is wierd and funny . kinda felt like i left a cult called academia. still struggle to accept the real world sometimes. learning code has been difficult. but as im writing this high, i understand that 80% of its difficulty is the mental anguish from our limiting beliefs. we can all push ourselves gently every day. and as i pushed myself to study a few more minutes each day, i now find myself being able doing 4-5hour days easily. still allowed to have bad days tho. hope you can see that ur actually doing great. and had you taken the other path at that fork in the road, life still owes you no better payout. as least you got to spend it doing cool shit like games and skating! both of which i try to get into in my adult life now, but have to keep a calculated safe boundary with. would i do it differently? im not sure , kuz everyone i love is alive and healthy rn. any do-over would be just as volatile. staying here, accepance. is to choose the enemy that you know, yknow lol?

Everyone does life at their own pace. Sure, it would have been nice to have figured out some hard stuff way earlier, but that didn't happen. The looking back and the "what if's" will not solve anything. It is what it is. You can't rush your own experience of life by listening to someone say they wished they had rushed their experiences. When it's time to do the work, you'll know. Some may never do the work, and what of it? They die miserable bastards, but that's how they wanted it. Do the work if you are ready, or don't. I'm 24 rn. I had major mental issues and used to have this seasonal depression every fall. It used be suck me in every year where I used to used feel I was worthless and can do no good in this world. It used to feel like every time it was some new issue around me or with me. Thankfully, I was made aware of this pattern by a dear friend one evening over a light conversation. It actually hit me real hard that maybe it was a pattern of habits and environments I put myself in which used to put me in that headspace. This year, again, I saw myself slipping into that mindset but thankfully I was ready to deal with it. Really took care of my diet and exercise. And as soon as I was feeling low, I took a small weekend trip.

I'm 38, same age. Rough childhood as a military brat moving around the world constantly, dropped out of high school, homeschooled myself into college, fumbled through a BA in English without a plan for how to use it, and went through a gauntlet of bad relationships and dead end jobs through my 20's. I started my early 30's trying to turn things around and considered going into web development or electrician work in the renewable energy industry. I picked the latter and I'll have my journeyman's license by the end of next year. It's working. Things are much more stable now, my relationships are healthier, and my work ethic is solid. But the work is extremely hard and dangerous and honestly doesn't pay that great. I took a night class in python last year out of curiosity. Now I find myself learning more about it and working on projects with what little energy I have at the end of the day. Currently wrapping my head around the core concepts of OOP which has been a steady stream of "Aha!" moments and I love it. So much so I spent most of a recent vacation just writing code for a game called Neutron. I wish I would have picked web dev those years ago. It's hard, but it's so rewarding. I just wish I had more time to dedicate to it. If you're reading this Dorian, is it too late to switch? If you forgot how to program today, would you start again at 38?

Have you ever thought about using python to write security scripts? I'm an English teacher and a hacker on the side and you'd be shocked how much people are willing to pay for decent python.

I was 35 when I went for ms in analytics. I sold some land in India and moved to US on a student visa. I was in sales for about 10 years. But I knew I would be able to find a niche in data analysis. I got my H1 work visa and finally learning new things. The hardest part is the first job.

@@camelotenglishtuition6394 Hi, could you perhaps elaborate a bit more on writing security scripts with python? I learned the basics of python but am having trouble figuring out where to go from here. All I see are things on django, data analysis, or machine learning. How does one get into security scripting and turn it into something they can make an income from?

The best advice here is regarding realizing / being aware of your age. It's tough because, you feel more or less the same, but to everyone else you're a dinosaur. Worse, you're physically NOT the same and your risk for injury is much higher even if you "feel" fine. I could go out and run a 6 min mile right now, the same time I could when I was 19. What I probably don't want to accept, but is definitely true, is that my heart rate will be much higher, my joints and muscles much more likely to tear, and my recovery much more likely to be an issue.

This video is fucking fantastic. Maybe because it all made sense to me as far as what I have been feeling about my life. But everything you said was as clear as water and brought me that clarity as I watched it. Thank you for this video.

Maybe I'm the weird one, but I've never understood that whole thinking your immortal thing when you're young. I've had a constant existential dread of death as far back as I can remember.

@@ChaosTherum Well, if you're looking for proof of God's existence, I would say to look at the universe. Consider this: How do you know that a painting had a painter? The painting itself is proof. How do you know that a building had a builder? The building itself is proof. In the same way, Creation is proof of it's Creator. I would also consider the complexity of the solar system or simply of the human eyeball. The human body is extremely complex on a biological level alone. I think that these are overwhelming evidences for the existence of God.
