When you love to go motorcycle camping, winter is the worst. When we had a week of unseasonably warm weather crop up in the middle of February, I just had to get out on a motorcycle camping trip on my 2022 Kawasaki KLR 650 Adventure. This moto camping trip took me to River Bend campground near Sweet Home, Oregon for a fun night of dual sport motocamping in colder temperatures. After securing my preferred motorcycle camping spot, I was stoked to discover that I could buy firewood on site. I was then very disappointed when it arrived soaking wet. A quick trip into town for beer, ice, dinner, and hauling wood on my motorcycle later and I was all set for the evening.
I was also testing out a bunch of new motorcycle camping gear on this trip, including my new Big Agnes Tiger Wall UL2 Bikepacking tent, Hultafors Hunter's Axe, Get Out Gear Down Blanket, and upgraded Big Agnes Q Core Ultra Air Mattress. I'm happy to report that all my new motocamping gear kit functioned perfectly and I'll be taking all of these items on future motorcycle camping trips with me!

Dork. You and magpie were my inspiration to start the moto camping. I put some of my adventures on Shawn moto guy. I just got a Vstrom to make the longer distance camping better. I now prefer a campground because I can leave and go exploring with less chance of my gear getting stolen.

Sage advice on getting out and doing to learn what you don't know, then sort out how to camp over time. Trailer camping is my favorite, because a shower on day 2 is priceless, especially if you are big dude who sweats. Looking forward to my first bike camping trip, it'll happen this summer. I’m officially a repeat customer. (Not to mention subscriber). I thought I had everything I need to moto camp properly. Then you demonstrated the small portable electric air pump. Hey man! I dont know how the long videos do on youtube but I did like how I had something to watch my entire lunch break. Also I wanted to comment on something you do, by no means am I trying to say what you are doing is wrong or anything I just wanted to offer some helpful advice from one camper to another. So whenever I watch you do fire steel you always scrape away from your body with the metal. This is all good in this given situation since you have a fire starter helper but sometimes that will run you into trouble. When you strike away you push the air away and sometimes the small tinder. So my advice is keep you right hand stationary and pull your left hand with the rod in it towards you rather then pushing with your right. Pulling the rod rather then moving the striker makes it easier to get a fire started with basic grass and tinder, with practice you can get really good at it. I just use the back side of my bushcraft knife. If you like your way thats fine I just wanted to put that out there. Keep up the good work.

Hey man, cigar haters probably DONT KNOW, you DONT INHALE cigars. I have been a fan and smoker of cigars for years. It’s usually while watching a hockey game or out on a ride. Nothing much better than a whiskey or single malt with a good cigar to relax after a great day. It beats the hell out of staring at a screen full of obnoxious and arrogant comments. Here’s to you 🥃and long ashes.🍺

Let me start by saying thank you for what you do. My son called me last week and said let's go moto camping for your birthday. Since he has a family of his own now it doesn't happen that often. The local weather was calling for a slight chance of rain and a low of 33 degrees here in East TX. Normally I am the type of person everything has to be perfect time to plan and such. at 54 years old it's hard to change. But after watching your videos over the last year I have tried new things went solo camping at 54 and loved it. So, my son and I went. Friday was 70 degrees sat morning started raining that afternoon a little snow yes snow in East TX Sunday morning when we got up it was 24 degrees. But even thru the bad weather I still had a great time with my son. 2 years ago, I would have said the weather is not right let's pick another weekend. So, thank you for just being normal and funny to say just try it what will it hurt. Myself at 54 I am out of shape, but I love to ride my Harley and still love to camp. Just wanted to let you know what you're doing is reaching people. Thank you!

Last time I went winter camping was Boy Scouts. 0 degrees and 3 feet of powder on the ground. Best Fall camping was for an SCA event. I was part of the staff running the event. We setup two nights prior to the event starting to setup the site. I woke up the first morning in my 3 room cabin tent. Queen sleeper sofa mattress with a ton of blankets. Toasty warm. Stepped outside for a smoke and there was a thick layer of frost over everything. The rest of the week long event nights was much warmer. I just quit cigs so I still, once a day, feel the urge to smack around any fools I come across.

You had me up till you were drinking the water out of the can 😂. Will be motorcycle camping this year because of you. Stogies and jack will be on the list. Be safe and enjoy 😊.

That video cracked me up. I literally LOL when you ran around the tent with the rain fly. A nice nod to Amanda. ;) I've been through that area many times. I actually had reservations at River Bend last September with the family & almost missed it because of a stupid covid quarantine. We got cleared last minute, but didn't have time to pack the family & didn't want to just throw the money away, so I headed down there solo on my bike & tried out my new trailer. It was a great trip! Although, I remember right before I got into camp a freaking yellow jacket went up my jacket sleeve & stung me. Dirty rat! I liked the campground, but found it a bit strange too. Thankfully I got dry wood, but when it came to the evening the place was like a ghost town. Totally silent. The place was packed too. Sunset was at like 7pm & by 8pm it was pitch black & not a soul in sight. No fires other than mine. No kids still running around. No people talking. It was weird.

Way to motivate all of us to get out there! I’m really enjoying your channel. I’m a fellow big guy and love dual sporting on my CRF250L rally. Cheers to having more two wheeled adventures in 2022.

Rain fly dance and several references to the "c" word ~14:30 (I thought that word was taboo). Awesome videos.

Yeah they've either relaxed about it or it doesn't matter unless you use it in the beginning of the video. Not sure which but haven't had any issues lately actually saying the word, which is nice.
