At our shop we never take the top cover off to repair the carburetor. If you take off the black panel and remove the two screws on the handle you can pull the bottom cover out without taking off the top and it's a little less work but I understand doing it for the video to show everything.

In the 90's, my father had 1 of these, with a Tecumseh 2-stroke engine. One time, when I was reassembling the covers after cleaning the carb, the rod for the choke attachment slipped off & I missed it, so fully assemble the covers, then disassemble them and this time, make sure the choke connection was correct and reassemble the covers again. Around 2004, I placed an ad and sold it locally, and I had several replies. A lot of people wanted it - they knew it did a pretty decent job for a single-stage small unit.

Yes not surprised by that. I would like to take an oscilating tool and cut away a window to have carb access.

I became a convert to the light 2-stroke machines several years ago. I have a Honda HR621, but I use this thing's little brother, the Powerlite 1000, for most Chicago snowfalls because it's light and always seems to 'punch above its weight class'. Choice of premix oil seems to have a major effect, and I've never seen a machine that handles wet, slushy snow clog-free better than the Toro Powerlite.
@doublewide6
@doublewide6 4 жыл бұрын
These 2 cycle machines work very well. I like the fact that they are light weight, don't clog up, and throw the snow a decent distance. Also easy to lift onto the deck without needing ramps.

Good Job Bob. I have never ran into a suzuki 2 stroke engine or carburetor down here but we dont have any snowblowers down here either. LOL The carb looked similar to a Honda carb to me didn't look to difficult to work on. Hope the son and the rest of the family is doing well. Have a great weekend buddy. God Bless!!!

Yes, nothing too exciting about this repair job. It's hard to believe the unit is designed that everything needs to be taken apart to work on the carb. Family is doing well, hope all is well on your end. Bob

I've had one of those for over 30 years. The dealer said it had a Suzuki GTS (Guaranteed To Start)(in two pulls, which it did for years before the primer started to act up) 2 stroke motor. It is a great unit. Mine isn't an electric start, but wish it was. I prefer to use it over my 28" S.P. unit, if the snow isn't too deep.

It's a Suzuki 4.5HP engine. I just picked one up today from someone off FB Marketplace for free, model #38185. An aftermarket carburetor runs about $10-$11 on Ebay, that's the way I'm going for now.

I replaced the carb on mine but you are right, the struggle is to get that thing back together. I saw you had removed the top cover and although it took about 10 minutes to remove it all, it saved me another hour and a litany of 4 letter words trying to get the bottom piece on. Also, by removing the top you can access the wires for the switch and ensure the choke lever is seated correctly and ensure the primer hose is still connected.

Not exactly my first choice for a snowblower but, I like the fact that it needs premix fuel. You can run them at a high degree of inclination and the engine will never suffer from oil starvation. I'd like to get my hands on an old 2 cycle lawn-boy push-mower though.

Great video. I'm working on a ccr2000 that appears to have no spark after I pulled the plug and reattached the plug wire to insure it was doing it's job. Nothing there when I pulled the rope. All wires appear to be secure. I see that there is a transistorized ignition module mounted to the right of the carb on this one and was wondering if these go bad or if there was a way to verify if it's working properly? Thanks for your help.

I have a 3000 GTS 5 hp. Its a Suzuki 2 stroke model 47P similar to those that were used on Toro lawn mowers. Great engines but the parts (ignition coil, carb) are expensive if you are going to replace with original equipment when needed. When I've had to clean the carb on mine, I usually can wiggle that bottom shroud out without removing the top one. That is the only thing I don't like about this Toro design is the pain in the neck covers/shrouds. In fact they finally changed this on the latest 4 strokes and allow better engine access.

Thanks for the video. At about 0:44 you are just walking around the snowblower and you show the throttle cable for the paddles. I need to replace the extension spring attached to that cable. There's a black housing over the extension spring and I have no idea how to remove the spring from that. Any suggestions?

Someone gave me a non running one of these in the summer. Carb service (they left fuel in it) and started on the first pull. We had our first snow last night, and I cleaned the drive and sidewalks with it today without a hiccup. I believe mine is a 1992. Now I want a bigger snowfall to see how it handles that!😱😂😂 I’m retired so I don’t have to go anywhere!😝😝

I got one last summer at a curb sale, the guy said it was garbage, it had compression so I wheeled it home, would not run without starting fluid. Carb bowl was dirty. Those plastic covers are a pain, but this thing is great, I use it to do edging or walkways, gives you a work out if you want. I will run it out of gas before putting it away, I actually like to run any engine out of gas on 2 stroke mix (by adding some oil in the last bit of gas)- this keeps the carb from oxidation while storing (sometimes for years). How important is the fine torsion spring on the carb float? Can you do without it? Thanks for your insight and video.
@doublewide6
@doublewide6 4 жыл бұрын
I would think the unit would run fine without the spring. The problem that you would have would be the gas may leak out of the carb after the unit it done being used. A fuel shut off switch would stop that the fuel leaking problem if you encounter it.

The plastics of this snowblower is the absolute worst to put back together. Even if you only remove the bottom half. Mostly because the choke lever easily becomes detached from the carb when you try and manipulate everything to fit. I got so sick of it the last time I had it off that I modified the bottom half to where I can remove it and reinstall it much easier.

AAwwk Must be the carburetor engineer has the most seniority as it looks like they built the machine around the carburetor. No thought went into repairing the machine. Engineers should be required to repair a machine prior to mass production. Smart but knuckle heads.
