Dr. Jerry Buss Introduces Jerry West and Pat Riley as the Coaches of the LA Lakers

The Lakers were off to a rough start during the 1981-82 campaign, so Dr. Jerry Buss decided to fire Paul Westhead and replace him with.... two head coaches?
This video will show the introductory press conference of Pat Riley as the Lakers Head Coach, while also introducing Jerry West as the head coach. Yes, a lot of confusion. An epic moment in Lakers history. At the end of the day, the "Lakers Big 3 Brass" of Dr. Buss/West/Riley turned out to be tremendously successful, and hiring Riley was the right move.
**The 2nd Season of "Winning Time" has been pretty good so far, and following the 5th episode, a lot of people have been wondering if that press conference debacle did happen. Here is the real footage!

I hope we get a Pat Riley movie at some point in the future with Adrien Brody reprising that role. I know it's a long shot, but Pat Riley has been absolutely interesting his entire life. When he resigned from the Knicks with a fax and became the Heat head coach 😂 Running the Heat to championships just like he did with the Lakers. Creating a whole culture that still has the Jimmy Butler Heat competing for championships. Incredible.

Couldn't give a shit about basketball but WT is such a good series. Seeing Abdul Kareem Al Jabbar character I said "he looks exactly like the big dude Bruce Lee fought from 'Enter The Dragon' " - little did I know. The resemblance of the cast to the real characters is uncanny.

Watch this clip again and take notice of the southern humility and calmer demnor of the real Jerry West. That man on the screen is not an accurate portrayal of a very nice man. None the less, fake Jerry West is really hilarious and does provide a comedic "character" to the show.

@@warrantyvoided I beg to differ. The Jerry West that the general public knows is how he carried himself in public spaces. Even in this scene he keeps a cool demeanor (the Jerry we’re familiar with) but Jerry West behind the scenes could very well be erratic and uptight as we know for sure Jerry West had very bad nerves to the degree that he couldn’t even watch the games and stood peeking out from the tunnel for decades. The way this series is portraying Jerry is right in line with a nervous wreck of a man who’s extremely uptight and filled with angst.

One thing nobody can criticize in Winning Time is the casting. It's 90% perfect for everybody and the fact that people are getting annoyed on how they're portrayed tells me more than half of that portraying is accurate. I only hope they do Winning Time: Kobe and Shaq when they finish this one

I have to say I’m really enjoying this series winning time and it’s one of the reasons that I’m here. I wanted to check the accuracy of the real press conference compared to the one on winning time and it’s pretty spot on. I have to say the characters are well played and John C Reilly, who plays Jerry Buss has done an amazing job, but so has everyone.
