Pat Riley villain arc begins (Fair use all rights go to HBO)

I wouldn’t say it was his Villian arc. It was more of a good move since Jack was having serious health problems. Practically saved his life.

Correct, McKinney himself admitted in later years that he was not ready to coach in the spring of 1980.

@@ANTHONY0808able I can't believe it would even be considered. Buss actually did help McKinney get a job with the Pacers after this.
@romancandle4169 ай бұрын
It's more of an anti-hero arc than a villain arc. You're right that McKinney was unhealthy and he didn't need the stress of being a coach of the Lakers...but Riley was still pretty gangsta in his maneuvering to oust him and (spoiler alert) later Paul Westhead. As the show progresses, I'm sure the Riley's personal fashion choices will reflect his character arc. He starts the show as a sad, washed-up jock with a schlubby '70s hippie aesthetic. As he gains confidence and power, his gradual transformation to the look we associate him with - slicked back hair and expensive suits - will make alot of sense. This is a good show. Pat Riley is a very interesting human, and Adrien Brody is a good actor is what I'm saying.

For anyone that read Showtime by Jeff Pearlman, you know Winning Time is full of fiction. Pat Riley was always grateful to Jack McKinney for laying the foundation of the 80's Lakers, so much so that Riley, while with the Heat, would give tickets for Heat games to McKinney, who spent his final years in South Florida.
@thomasreal45762 жыл бұрын
This show has shown that Pat Riley was grateful for Jack and that he also wanted to finish what was started. So if showtime is false then how come they properly portray Pat Riley as being grateful and also a great coach???

@trevoredwards25272 жыл бұрын
I feel that villain arcs wise it might be Jerry West and definitely Red Auerbach & Larry Bird. Pat is still a little grey. We have to see the goal he has in mind and the actions he takes to achieve that said goal. Whether it's good choices or bad ones.
@gabrielmcguoirk61062 жыл бұрын
They're no bad guys and this show is highly dramatized. They completely shit on Riley and West throughout this series. They hit on gold with The Big Short. But everything else these guys have done are pandering liberal propaganda.
@trevoredwards25272 жыл бұрын
@@gabrielmcguoirk6106 idk about the liberal propaganda part. It looks as though we're both analyzing the show for two different things so I’m not reading the show for that in particular. I’m talking from a film perspective that every story has to have an antagonist in some way. Basically, they’re trying to prevent the protagonist from getting what they want and quite often the antagonist has the same goal as the protagonist. For Dr. Buss it’s obvious that it’s Red Auerbach. They both want a championship he’s trying to prevent that but there could be others antagonists for Buss as well. For Magic it’s Larry and maybe other people that want to exploit him or prevent him from being the man that he, which is "Magic". Dramatized, I definitely agree because it’s a show. However, good or bad isn’t the question and has nothing to do with a characters arc. Along with the central theme of the show it’s about from who’s perspective is the story from, what’s their goals, and how are they going to achieve said goals. The kind of choices (good or bad) they make determines their arc. If Pat makes bad choices to become The Lakers head coach then it’s a villains arc. Everyone can’t just be a good guy (a show doesn’t work like that). Look at the Spencer Haywood character. Not a bad guy but made bad decisions, therefore it’s a villain arc.
