Dr. Kristin Neff discusses the impact of self-compassion on mental health and wellbeing. She will share the science behind self-compassion and provide tangible strategies for practicing self-compassion, which can be especially helpful during times of change.
Dr. Kristin Neff is an Insight Meditation practitioner and an associate professor of Educational Psychology at the University of Texas at Austin. Her work has been featured in The New York Times, The Atlantic, and Harvard Business Review, among others, and her TEDx talk has been viewed over 1.7 million times. She’s also the co-developer of an empirically supported training program called Mindful Self-Compassion, which is taught by thousands of people worldwide, and the co-author of The Mindful Self-Compassion Workbook as well as Teaching the Mindful Self-Compassion Program: A Guide for Professionals. She is also co-founder of the nonprofit Center for Mindful Self-Compassion.
Described by Brené Brown as “a transformative read,” Neff’s first book Self-Compassion: The Proven Power of Being Kind to Yourself quickly became the handbook for truly actionable wellness advice. Using solid research, personal anecdotes, practical exercises, and humor, Dr. Neff was able to clearly explain how to rewrite your own destructive scripts so that you can be healthier, happier, and more productive. Its companion, The Mindful Self-Compassion Workbook, went on to become a bestseller, providing science-backed, step-by-step guidance for tapping your inner resources and transforming the way you work and live.

I've always been told by my wife regarding my tone. From having a tone everytime a trigger comes over me. The tone becomes yelling. From Self-compassion, I realized that having a tone is not an auditory issue. Rather its similar to shouting which is a behavioral manifestation on unmet needs on being heard. With self compassion which includes presence and my own needs. I think I can now always apply self compassion. If not before the trigger or during, at least after.

If your compassion does not extend to yourself then it is incomplete.

i am going to comment on this before i forget.. it seams like i accept those parts of me that others don't.. i can see how perfectionism is a good thing.. i can also see how control or being responsible is a good thing.. i can also see how being critical is a good thing.. i will use an example for that.. when i went back to school one of the first classes i took was Critical Thinking.. it taught me how to question everything.. i like that..

This is so weird. Like the monopoly of who gets to commercialize technology and science literally terrorized whole populations for no reason. And like we can't even get to having robust conversations about what is self reliance, self sufficiency, independence, self determination. And please do it in a weird superficial way. Like computers could have been the equalizer and please don't use it in a superficial way. Although were is computer s made. Like the monopoly on climate change equipment and monopoly of healthcare is insidious. What is this conversation?

Wholly Fuck! Does the label “she/her” adjacent to the doctors names mean how she “identifies” herself? One day we’ll look back at this phase and laugh. That is just so sad.

@@jackiecarter5193 Dr. Neff should have insisted they not label her. We’re not blind or deaf if we’re here, clearly this is a women. No one cares about your personal identity. That’s why it’s called personal. Facts, not feelings.

@@sarialshami1490 The first thing my parents taught me when I first leaned about the internet is never use your real names or identity. The internet is a predatory hunting ground. So your comment makes it clear that you are a good example of why it’s unsafe. Creep.

@@bestself2438 Am I suppose to feel insulted now after call me a creep?! Or like you made a smart comment? Well They taught you well to be scared and live behind the screen, there is something called hacking I dont need your real name. I was just reading your comment and I was like why this nick name is mad, maybe Dr.Neff wanted that. We live in time where is transgender even my boss she finishes her e mail with her/she. I am still nice I didnt insult you or called you names like you did. Good luck in your life And practice compassion to yourself then to people.
