I respect this man for being here explaining and reveling all the truth he knew. Unlike Jeff's mother who just took off changed the name to disconnect from this. The father kinda sacrifices himself in the eyes of a public to pay respect to the families of the victims and also to endlessly show Jeff that he is not alone. Even after the death. Its such a terrible story. Thanks to the father we all can learn something.

I feel bad for Lionel. He has to live with the shame of what his son did. Speaking about it may be therapeutic for him. There is always premature judgements from strangers wanting to blame him, but he hasn't committed a crime and isn't to blame. His book is a mostly a self-analysis of trying to figure out where it all went wrong for his son. Proceeds from the book covered his legal fees and he donated the rest to the families of the victims. Lionel felt Jeff had some psychological issues and tried to help. Jeff manipulated everyone around him during his crime spree. Jeff seemed to be remorseful for his actions but he was still pretty detached from it all.

Right no one thinks to expect such wild proclivities from their own kid. People tend to blame others because they don't want to believe that one day, maybe, their own kid could end up a Dahmer no matter what they do. Same happened with the Chris Watts case. They blame the murdered wife, probably scared to think their seemingly perfect husband could turn on them with no warning. They tell themselves the victim caused it somehow.

No one expects such wildness from their kid. People don't want to believe that one day, maybe, their own kid could end up a Dahmer no matter what they do, so they blame the parents, teachers who didn't see the signs, the neighbors, et cetera. Same happened with the Chris Watts case. Certain people blame the innocent, murdered wife, possibly scared to think that their seemingly perfect husband could turn on them with no warning, as Shanann's did. They tell themselves the victim must've caused it somehow and that _they_ would've seen the signs. It's very ignorant, narrow-minded thinking.

Yeah, everyone thinks "that would never happen to me, I would have seen the signs" etc but nobody raises their kid to be a murderer, and nobody's parenting style is perfect. Yes, sometimes there are clear signs (they openly say they are gonna kill) and nobody does anything bc they think they are not for real, and its only human to assume that but it is always a good idea to alert the authorities if you hear smth like that just in case...

Normal and sane are not synonymous. To be considered insane the person has to have lost touch with reality, be unaware of their actions and their consequences and/or not know right from wrong. Jeff was considered sane because he knew what he was doing, knew it was wrong and understood the consequences but did it anyways.

One of my former coworkers used to work at a restaurant where Shari and Lionel used to frequent. They would always order take out because they didn’t feel comfortable going out in public. They were ashamed to have to tell the workers their names. I feel sorry for them, I think they wanted to help but just didn’t know how. I think it’s easy from the outside for us to say they didn’t do enough or they should have done x,y, and z but at the end of the day I’m sure it’s not the same when it’s your child. You see your kids in a different light. And he was an adult when he hurt and killed those people, there’s not much that you can do for your child when they’re an adult. Also, hindsight is always 20/20.

Shari and Lionel said when all this came out when Jeff was first arrested after the Tracy Edwards incident, that the papers and media would refer to him as Jeffrey Dahmer and them as 'The Dahmers'. And Jeffrey Dahmer was this person who committed all these crimes and was so far removed of who they knew him to be, Jeff. So they became very detached from the name Jeffrey Dahmer as he was Jeff to them. There was an article about it, but I can't find it to post.

The stepmother was always very aggressive in TV interviews, claiming (and maybe rightly) that she and her husband did nothing wrong and should not be blamed for what Jeffrey Dahmer did. But the father seemed to take the blame, that he must have missed something and that somehow he messed up in the raising of his son. The father and wife should have gotten their act together.

Believing that the killings of these ppl were because Jeff didn't want them to leave because he felt lonely is bizarre to me. Jeff already had it in his mind that he was going to kill these ppl. it wasn't impulse killing it was planned out murders, he in a sense hunted these men for only one reason and that is to kill & mutilate them because he enjoyed it. If he only wanted them to stay he would have held them captive. I honestly do feel bad for the family because their family member has tarnished their name and the family often gets blamed for not seeing the red flags but who honesty would think their own child no matter how weird he was would do something so horrific!

She said that she had to keep knives and scissors put up where her daughter can't get them because she chases he sisters around the house and she cut one of them. Then a few months ago my neighbor told my mom that her 5 year old daughter had killed 4 or 5 cats and left them on the front porch!!! How does a 5 year old know how to kill animals?!!!? My mom told her to seek out a pediatrics mental health advisor and let them know what has been going on. One of the main characteristics of a seriel killer is killing/torturer of animals!! I hope this little girl gets the help she needs!!!!

Jeffrey’s killings and the case always has been very interesting to me. I have no clue why it does. I believe Jeffrey was very very lonely and had serious issues throughout life. Being that lonely and having no one to confide in, can drive you insane. I also think he wanted someone to stay with him forever and maybe he thought that was the only way to keep them by his side at first. Maybe his first kill was an accident? Maybe he thought he just knocked him out? I remember watching one of the interviews and he said he would keep parts of them so he felt like they were with him. Loneliness, however, does not make up for the heinous crimes committed and the families who were hurt. I feel for him on the lonely part, but the killing? No way. What he did to those poor boys and men is inexcusable. He could’ve ignored those feelings or he could’ve gone to a psychiatrist or psychologist (he probably would’ve went to a psychiatric hospital, but still better than killing people.). I understand urges to do something and feelings get overwhelming, but again, no reason to kill innocent people including minors. Overall, Jeff was a lonely, miserable, and evil individual..
