Dr. Rajsree Nambudripad, MD is Board-Certified in Internal Medicine and founder of OC Integrative Medicine in Fullerton, California.
SIBO stands for Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth and is a big root cause of bloating and IBS. After treating hundreds of patients with SIBO in her practice, Dr. Rajsree developed an Effective 4 Phase Herbal Protocol that is now available to the public. In this video, she walks you through the protocol step and step. She explains how best to introduce the supplements and reviews the SIBO diet in detail. By spreading out the protocol into 4 phases, she created a gradual and gentle approach that is very effective, but also reduces the chance of side effects. doctor do u suggest adding a probiotic supplemnt to sibo protocol. i saw ur sibo video and i remember u telling not to add until sibo is fixed. is that the same case with h pylori and no sibo. is it true that all the most h pylori cases are 100 percent associated with sibo or candida/ or h pylori infection could just be alone . in that case where h pylori is on its own and i clearly get tested negtive for sibo candida yaest infection, can i add ur probiotic 225 billion./ when according to u is the best time to add probiotic 225 billion in sever h pylori ifection igG above 200?
@drrajsree
@drrajsree 2 ай бұрын
I don't recommend the 225 billion if there is SIBO since it has prebiotic fiber in it. The Spore Probiotic, Probiotic 100 or S. boulardii are all fine with SIBO. The S. boulardii also helps with the Candida/ yeast.

I have been comparing Dr's products to several other companies. Although her prices seem high at first, the ingredients are pure, and have none of the "fillers" that those of us with SIBO cannot take right now. Also, when I did find another clean supplement- the price was often higher than hers. Or, I would have to buy several to make up the ingredients in her one bottle, etc. So, I plan to purchase the SIBO protocol line, and get to healing myself! THANK YOU, Dr Rajsree!!

I found your 4 steps straight forward and clear to follow. I am happy I can just order all of your supplement through your website instead of ordering from different doctors for different things. Hi Doctor, Noticed rosacea on my cheeks for past two years. (Allergy testing normal). This year it got much worse with new warmth and redness of cheeks after using 2-3 months of antibiotics for rosacea and a PPI for GERD. Tested Positive for combined methane and hydrogen SIBO. Great videos on HI/ SIBO / Leaky gut and thinking this is SIBO causing the cheek flushing or the dysbiosis / leaky gut/ SIBO combo causing flushing ( HI) despite eating low histamine foods. Really the only GI issue is mild bloating. Two questions: -Would I use the same SIBO protocol you outlined? Or do I need to add DAO enzyme/ L - glutamine or make any changes to the SIBO protocol? -I am a vegetarian-would I eat a low Fodmap / lectin diet alone or in combo with low histamine diet ?
@drrajsree
@drrajsree 11 ай бұрын
Yes you are welcome to try our SIBO protocol for your hydrogen/ methane SIBO. If your only symptom is mild bloating, the digestive enzyme Pro should suffice (I don't think you need additional DAO). L-Glutamine is optional but helps if there is any inflammation (leaky gut). The low histamine diet is very restrictive. Only follow that if you feel is helps you. Otherwise for SIBO just follow low FODMAP/low lectin.

Hello, thank you for the great videos. Should you still take saccahromyces boulardii if your (ASCA) anti-Saccharomyces cerevisiae antibodies test is positive? I’m having a hard time getting an answer to this. I’m not sure if the boulardii is so similar in molecular composition that it will cross react and my body will want to attack it too. Or if it would act as a decoy and help. I have major dysbiosis and high inflammation markers, so I need to get the immune system calmed down and under control. What do you think about this? Thank you!
@drrajsree
@drrajsree 9 ай бұрын
That is a wonderful question! ASCA antibodies are often seen in patients with IBS (Crohn's Disease). Interestingly, the literature shows that S. boulardii is helpful in IBD. Here's an article showing it's efficacy in Crohn's: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3296087/ Here's a blog post I wrote that also has links to the literature on the probiotics: oc-integrative-medicine.com/your-2nd-genome-the-gut-microbiome/

Thank you for your response to my recent question about Sibo/ HI and my face flushing. My rosacea on my cheeks has gotten worse and in turn melasma on my cheeks has worsened. As recommended I am ordering your sibo protocol-Mag, motility activator, digestive enzymes, spore Probiotic IgG, and 3 antimicrobials for my methane/ hydrogen SIBO. 1)Can any of these products worsen rosacea ( by increasing flushing) or worsen melasma ( by increase pigmentation) so I should avoid? 2)Interested in the vegetarian digestive enzymes but it has a very long list of enzymes compared to the non veg digestive enzyme pro. Which do you recommend for a sensitive stomach?
@drrajsree
@drrajsree 11 ай бұрын
1). No I have not seen any of these supplements worsen skin conditions. If anything, as your gut get healthier, rosacea should improve. Melasma is strongly related to UV light so be sure to protect your skin from sunlight. 2). The Digestive Enzyme Pro has non-veg ingredients but might work slightly stronger. The vegetarian enzymes are generally more gentle and well tolerated. In either case, if your stomach is sensitive, I recommend taking the enzymes 1-2 capsules AFTER food rather than before food. Hope you see great results with the protocol!

My diet has stayed the same and I use 2 veg digestive enzymes with my 3 herbals after each meal. I was wondering if the 3 spore probiotic IgG pills taken each morning can cause bloating? What do you think of using the combination of rifaximin + Allicin (together for 4 weeks) for methane sibo? Since rifaximin is safe as it only works in intestines and not systemic and the other methane antibiotics are more riskier (metronidazole) would a combo of rifaxmin and allicin work well instead

Xifaxan alone doesn't do much for methane SIBO. Allicidin alone also doesn't work well for methane. That's why I recommend all 3 herbs in Methane SIBO. The antibiotic option is Xifaxan + Neomycin.

Hi Dr. R! Once you are taking all the supplements, you mentioned that you need to be on all of them for 4-6 weeks but that you had a patient with severe SIBO who needed to take them for 3 months. How do I know when I can start introducing new foods and switch to taking the supplements to prevent relapse? Will I need to taper gradually off the treatment supplements before switching to the supplements that prevent relapse?
@drrajsree
@drrajsree 8 ай бұрын
After 4-6 weeks, you can stop the herbs and see how you feel (bloating, bowels, etc) and try to reintroduce foods. If you encounter challenges, that is a sign that a longer course of treatment may be helpful. That's usually when I treat for up to 3 months.

Hi Doctor! I have heard some say wait until after the antibiotics or antimicrobials to start the SIBO diet so any bacteria come out of hiding. And start probiotics too after treatment. Is that a good option if tolerating the antimicricrobials?
@drrajsree
@drrajsree 10 ай бұрын
From my experience, if you are eating a regular diet, there will be more die-off symptoms from killing the bacteria. By reducing the gas levels with the diet, the treatment is more effective and tolerable. My patients who have had more successful outcomes are the ones that followed the diet during treatment. You could start the probiotics after the antimicrobials, but the benefit of the Spore Probiotic IgG is the IgG part binds the toxins that are released when killing the bacteria and helps with gut inflammation.

Hi Dr. Nambudripad. I noticed with your protocol, you start the antimicrobial kill phase after low fodmap. I’ve had a previous care plan that suggests to do the kill phase in the beginning during a traditional diet plan while the bacteria is most active so you’re able to kill more off. Does it matter what you eat during the kill phase? Or is it case by case?

Sometimes I feel like I almost have to throw up. And I get really cold. What is happening? Should I be worried or is this a normal reaction? Once again quality content - not only do you explain the underlying concepts very well but you also lay out an actionable plan that most doctors fail to do. I will give this a shot and see how things go. I am a little worried though because some of the things I have already been doing for a while (magnesium in the evening, intermittent fasting 16-20 hours per day, pretty much no sugars and carbs, no gluten, no soy, no dairy except low fodmap cheese, no fruits except small amounts of rasberries (low fodmap). There is little left to eat for me now that I am also cutting out more veggies and lectins. From recent observations, I tend to get bloated the most 30-90mins after my dinner which is pretty much 100g of different nuts like macadamia, walnut, pecan, brazil nut,10-15g of raw cacao nibs and 50g of rasberries. I drink 30g of collagen powder with 3g of creatine mixed in water along with it. I have tried to leave out some components once in a while to check if a particular one is causing trouble with little success. I am curious whether the phytic acid load is too high. Any idea on what is going on here?

Can I follow this protocol if I have hypothyroidism (hashimoto's)? Would you say the protocol can work if you take a prokinetic, go on a low fodmap diet and take the herbs only (without the enzymes and the "spore probiotics IgG")? It's because that's a lot of supplements and I can't buy them all at once 😥

Yes I've treated a lot of Hashimoto's patients for SIBO with great success. You might also like my video on Hashimoto's: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fM6Xm5djktO-m6s.html The Enzymes are crucially important. If you had to skip something due to cost, it would be the Spore Probiotic IgG. Best wishes, RN

I apologize I'm not taking new patients at this time. I hope some of the tips in this video can help you. To search for a functional medicine provider, please go to IFM.org Yes most elemental diets are high in carbs/ sugars. While they can work for SIBO, they have a high relapse rate. That's why I prefer the Herbal protocol + diet. Best wishes in your health, RN

1. What changes you make in the protocol when it’s SIBO + SIFO? 2. Would prolonged fasting speed things up?(while completing the whole protocol or some particular stages) 3. How about B-complex(nutritional yeast/synthetic complex) on the first 2 stages, especially vitamin B1? Thank you!
@drrajsree

Yes, methyl B complex can be used any time. For SIFO, the probiotic yeast S boulardii can be added.

Great video. Is there also a connection between SIBO and LPR? I have taken myself off the omeprazole (20mg) that I have been taking for over 10 years. I sometimes have the traditional heartburn, but mostly I feel a low level burn in my throat. I have been using apple cider vinegar with meals to help increase acidity. Seems to help. I have seen some videos which suggest SIBO as an underlying cause of LPR. Is this something you have seen?
@drrajsree
@drrajsree 9 ай бұрын
Yes SIBO can absolutely cause LPR or GERD. The back pressure from the gas in the abdomen pushes on the diaphram and can cause these symptoms to happen. You might like my video on GERD where I cover this: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nc5-oc9-sL-tYp8.html

She might have some fructose intolerance (found in fruit). Has she tried it with Digestive Enzyme Pro? It can help break down the fructose. Or it's possible a longer course of treatment may help. Best wishes in her health, RN

I have received all the supplements today. So I will start the protocol tomorrow. do we have to continue phase1 during phase2, continue phase 1 and 2 during phase3, continue phase 1,2,3 during phase 4? I would like to know how long each phase should last. can I ignore meal spacing if I do intermittent fasting 16:8?
@drrajsree
@drrajsree 8 ай бұрын
Yes you add in each phase, so when you are on phase 4 you should still be doing everything from phase 1-3. If you are just eating 2 meals in the 16:8 intermittent fasting, that works really well in SIBO! However, snacking between meals is discouraged.

I'm eager to try your SIBO protocol, but with regards to taking the Motility Pro, I've read that Artichoke Leaf Extract isn't recommended for those with gallstones. Now, I'm not sure I have them, but I know I'm more likely to than others, so I'm a little hesitant. Any advice or alternative supplement for supporting small bowel motility? Can I test for gallstones? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Hi there! Very happy to come across your guidance! Will be starting the protocol in some days. Just wondering - do you also recommend taking L-Glutamine during this? and if yes, then during which phase should it be brought in and when/how much should one take?
@drrajsree
@drrajsree 4 ай бұрын
The L-Glutamine is optional, but many find it helpful for the gut inflammation. The Spore Probiotic IgG also works for gut inflammation as the IgG antibodies work to address inflammation. It could be introduced at the same phase as the Spore IgG Probiotic (Phase 3).

The good news is the herbs themselves and the digestive enzymes serve as biofilm disruptors. If you wish you could also add NAC, which has biofilm disrupting properties.
