Drag Bar Install Honda Rebel 300 / 500 CMX500

5 жыл бұрынToday we install drag bars and bar ends on the Rebel 500. A few notes I cut 2in 3/16th off the bars and you will need to drill a 13/64th hole in the bars for the control stops.

Looks great man. Love your install vids. This is the best drag bar install vid for this particular model motorcycle on the internet. Don’t even need to watch any of the others. @@EvilNeil187 I'm looking into a rebel 300, I'm a new rider and not a huge speed demon. In your opinion would the 300 have any highway capabilities? Being a new rider with the insane insurance prices in Ontario CA the 300 is much more price friendly lol do you think it's a bike I could have fun with for a few years?

Great video man, using the drag bar did it bring the handle bar closer to the rier ? making it more comfortable unlike the original bar which is so far.

Hey man I’m having troubles removing the gas cables from the throttle tube (and I think I’ll have the same problem mounting the tube back). How did you do that? Thanks for the help btw, really appreciate that

The cables remove pretty easy, there is a notch in the tube, line the wire up and the cable stays should slide out so you can separate the tube.

Hey dude, looks insane! I had a look at the mirrors and they're made for 7/8" bars. Did you have to do something to fit them? Thanks!

They come with some little spacer things I but that around the internal part to help hold them in, you would use some pvc tube also so it expands in the bar to hold it. They are on there solid tho!

Gonna be doing this myself soon, just wondering - are your bar end mirrors 7/8” or 1” measurements? For some reason I can only find 7/8” ones on eBay 🤨

they are 7/8th bar ends but you can make em work with a lil work

Sup bro , great page ! Question , I recently dropped my rebel , and I believe the bars might make been misaligned. That or my cluster seems a bit off. So finally the question , do u know if the bars are adjustable ? Maybe need re-alignment ?

they have a rubber grommet I think so the bars have some give, try holding the front wheel with your legs and torquing the bars straight, unless they are bent then you might have to replace them.

Is that rust on the inside of the bars or some type of coating (because it looked like rust)?

Might be, inside was not coated and only 38$ bars, they feel solid tho, for the price and something no one will ever see, im fine with it...

Hey, quick question! I'm getting some aftermarket bars for mine, and I noticed your link has an option for 25mm or 26mm bars... When it comes to the hardware mounted on the bars, you think one mm would make that big of a difference? Because obviously 25mm is slightly smaller and 26mm is slightly larger than 1". Which one did you go with? Thanks in advance

Hey EN I know it’s been a while since you made the vid but how did you ever remove the throttle tube from the kill switch housing?

you have to separate the switch housing, take the screws out and it comes apart and you can remove the throttle tube.

Very cool bike. I just got a Rebel 500 and everything is cool about but I am short and even though the bars are not tall they are high enough to give you a little of bit of an upward arm control if that makes sense. So my shoulders are up just a tad enough to make me miss a sportier position. Do you think this kind of gives you this? I am comparing it to my wifes CB300R that I don't want to give back to her.

The bar end mirrors you linked are 7/8" . And the drag bar you're using is 1". How difficult was it to fit them? I don't have anything to drill my ends but if it's not too difficult I'll look into it

rebel bars are 1in, the bar ends are 7/8 but I made them work just fine, they come with some plastic spacers I put inside the bar or you could use some PVC pipe and cut it.

Hi from malaysia rebel fellow... Just want to ask.. what is the size of the mirro end bar that you purcase.. seems I cant find the 1"@25mm size.. there is a lots of 7/8 22mm size in the net..

No issues, I sold the rebel, but who bought it tipped it and the bars didnt break or bend so im guessing they fine

How is the handling on these things? Does it skid under braking?And what about cornering? Can you pls comment on the handling on a naked vs handling on this. Bike looks fantastic.

rebel handles great! super easy to ride, its not a sport bike so handling on this isnt as great as say my z1000 that can get way more lean...

I don’t think The bars you linked in the description are the same ones you used in the video..the ones you linked have like 3 inch indents on the underside, right where you put the holes for the pins on the controls

they might have changed the link, any 1in diameter bars will work on a rebel

they would work, but for me being 6'2 it would be uncomfortable im sure, these bars barely hit my knees so that would be a factor to consider

Very nice! Now, all you had to do is flip the original bar left to right or vice versa and get a lot better effect. The bar would've been lower, more forward and the position of the hands much more natural. Try and see that I'm Mr Right.

They do not, I had to rotate them ever so slightly forward from my original position but nothing touches at full lock even with the mirrors

Diameter of the mirror portion is larger than the bar, you have to use the supplied bar ends

I am trying to install the same mirrors but having issues tightening the hex bolts that are supposed to lock the bar ends. They keep spinning inside instead of tightening and expanding the locking pipes. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I put one of the sizing rings inside the bar end so the expanding part has something to push against, you could do this with some PVC or like I said I used the rings they shipped with, I cut a small section out

did you try pre tightening the insert so it starts to expand a little?

@@EvilNeil187 Yes and without success so I improvised a little bit. I used a star nut that goes inside a fork of bicycle. Trimmed it a bit so it can fit in the handlebars, and it worked perfectly. Thanks for your help anyway!

It was touted as this customizable bike that you can make a bobber, scrambler and so on and yet there are no accessories for this bike available anywhere. I can retrofit things on my own but that defeats the whole purpose of a mod bike. Its like Honda made this bike and then next year the craze was vintage looking modern bikes and they just forgot about this bike. I have been looking all over the place for a single seat for this bike instead of a separate driver and passenger seat. No luck and its been like 2 years. Thanks for nothing Honda

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but I did this for my rebel and those mirrors he listed will not work for a 1" bar so fair warning. They're made for 7/8" bars. Also for some reason the bars I got looked a bit different than the ones he had(same link). Also I wouldn't cut these bars. I cut mine 1-3/4"(less than what he did) and it actually hits the horn if I turn too much, quiet embarrassing. Other than that this video is pretty informative and the bars do feel sick.

All that work to replace a stock bar that looked better, Now you have to lean forward and damage you're back? Should have cut the other end of the throttle and left the end? I hate the low mirrors like that, looks stupid! Should never have cut the drag bars as hands are too close together, O, Well it you're bike and you have a right to waste money?
