Welcome to Voice Essentials where everybody sings. Each week we upload new videos purposefully designed to encourage your vocal journey. So if learning to sing is your thing then we invite you to subscribe and join our ever-growing community of passionate singers from across the globe, who just like you, want to raise their voice in song. #VoiceEssentials

@@jollybell5452 I agree with you that stress management and relaxation is really important and often overlooked! That said, asthmatics have a condition where the passages in their lungs squeeze too tightly. The tunnels in our lungs are surrounded by tiny muscles. These constrict and relax in response to many factors, and normally they work great! "Asthma" is actually quite a wide definition, where those little tunnels get squeezed, so the air can't go in OR out! There is no special breathing technique that can help most asthmatics; if you know of one, I'd like to know it! So would the Nobel Prize committee, not to mention every university in the world who will give you tenure!

I find it difficult to even commence praticing. I live in a flat with three roomies, and even when I'm alone I find it tough to start a practice session. When I do start practicing and start feeling even a slight strain, I become demotivated and saddened. I don't hate my voice or the sound of it per say, I just feel annoyed that I can't just start practicing and sing. It is an evil endless cycle of self-consciousness, and it is really limiting my singing.

I remember losing my mixed voice for few months, I think the cause of it was sleeping in a bad position which affected one of my vocal muscles (the one on the left of my neck) so i stopped mixing my voice, i focused on working on my chest voice, and changed my sleeping habits, until it came back. There's something I'd love to point out, if your voice gets or hurt, maybe with a good care for recovery, I'd come more strong. I feel that was the case for me.

That's absolutely normal. You hear yourself bolder when you're actually singing, that's just an anatomical fact since you hear with both your external and internal ears. I suggest you keep at it and your voice will improve AND your appreciation for your voice will also improve. You need to get used to hearing your voice recorded. I'm pretty sure trying to make it sound bold is gonna do more harm than good. Also pretty sure our friend Dr Dan would agree!

Agrita Kļaviņa honestly, don’t clear your throat. There is no healthy way of clearing your throat. What you can do, i drink water (room temperature, not ice cold), swallow when you feel like clearing your voice (feels uncomfortable but does actually help) and speak through it (at some point your voice should get back to normal, and the mucus should go away). There is a healthy ‘clearing of the throat’, but it is very mild, and i am not able to explain it over text (english is not my first language), so the best thing for you right now is really to practice not clearing your throat. It takes practice, but it is possible!

@DrDanRobinson
@DrDanRobinson 9 ай бұрын
I understand that constant throat clearing can be uncomfortable, especially with post nasal drip and allergy issues. An alternative might be to focus on proper hydration and breath management. Drinking plenty of water can help keep the throat lubricated, and breath management exercises might aid in reducing the urge to clear your throat. It could also be beneficial to consult with a healthcare provider or a speech therapist who can evaluate your specific situation and provide tailored strategies. Remember, these suggestions are general and should not replace professional medical advice.

I know my question may sound weird still will ask.. is it possible that my voice literaly would change ( including speaking voice) from having children( giving birth) ... I had clear soprano voice never been able to do lower notes.. after having my first born my speaking voice and my singing voice has changed drastically.. went way lower .. ( noone in my family literaly could recognise my voice ) and it stayed like that and with each child that I had my voice went more and more low.. now my speaking and my singing voice is completely different and just to confirm I have no thyroid issues or other health issues that could impact my vocal cords..now I can go as low as 3c so a question is - did you ever meet a singer who after having a baby would come back with absolutely different voice than had prior labour.?🤷‍♀️and if you did , what can possibly impact such drastic vocal change?

As a post-menopausal singer with a dry throat, you can still overcome these challenges and continue to share your gift with others. Here are a few tips to help you along the way: 1. Hydration: Make sure to drink plenty of water throughout the day, especially before and after singing. This will help keep your throat lubricated and reduce dryness. 2. Vocal exercises: Warm up your voice with gentle vocal exercises before singing. This can help relax your vocal cords and alleviate any tightness in your throat. 3. Breathing techniques: Deep breathing exercises can help you manage performance anxiety and stay relaxed while singing. Remember to take slow, deep breaths to calm your nerves and maintain control over your voice. 4. Consult a voice coach: Consider working with a professional voice coach if you're serious about singing again. They can help you with your technique, breathing, and other aspects of your performance. 5. Please take your time: Don't rush yourself; you can move ahead at your own pace. Being patient and kind to yourself is essential as you rediscover your passion for singing. 6. Find a supportive community: Join a local choir, singing group, or online community where you can share your love for singing and learn from others. 7. Celebrate small victories: Recognize and celebrate your progress, even small ones. Every step forward is a step closer to where you want to be. Remember that your voice is a gift, and you deserve to enjoy singing again. Embrace your passion and let your unique sound shine through. Keep believing in yourself, and soon, you'll be back on the stage or simply singing for pleasure with newfound confidence. 🎶🙏

During my pregnancy I practically lost my voice towards the end. Now 5 months post partum my voice is mostly back to normal but I cannot hit my high notes as I did pre pregnancy. Any idea if this is an actual condition??
@DrDanRobinson
@DrDanRobinson 10 ай бұрын
Congratulations on your new baby! It's not uncommon for pregnancy to affect your voice. Hormonal changes during and after pregnancy can lead to swelling and changes in the vocal cords, which may impact your vocal range and quality. Most of the time, these changes are temporary and resolve over time as hormone levels return to normal. However, the timeline for recovery varies from person to person. Vocal rest, hydration, and gentle vocal exercises can all help support this recovery. Another consideration is the physical demands and emotional changes of being a new parent, which can also affect your voice. Lack of sleep, for example, can cause vocal fatigue. If you're still noticing changes in your voice, it may be helpful to consult with a speech-language pathologist or a laryngologist who specializes in voice. They can assess your vocal health and provide guidance for regaining your vocal range and strength. Please remember that this advice does not replace a medical consultation. Always consult with healthcare professionals about your personal health concerns. In the meantime, try to be patient with your body and your voice. Continue with gentle vocal exercises, stay hydrated, rest your voice as needed, and make sure you're taking care of your overall health. Wishing you all the best in your vocal journey and your new journey as a parent! 🎶👶🎤

Forcing water may be a homeopathic remedy but we rarely ever need that much water in a day. Our appetite for food and water should reflect the exertion rate of the brain and body during activity. Quality activity stimulates appetites for quality, quantified consumption. You are only as good as what you eat. Water is weird. Some water is dank dead don't drink that water. the best water comes out of tree tops alive and refreshing it forms the powder in glades flavoring face shots with organic sulfur.... it's delicious. In the absence of face shots in cold steep powdery glades organic sulfur is available in MSM which vortex dissolved in purified water restores the life giving qualities of the water and flavors it with a delightfully bitter mineral after taste just like the freshest mountain spring water.

Water is not a good "lubricant" and it never has been. Hydration is important but the 8 glasses has been disproven and actually does the opposite, too much water is bad for you. You can't measure air quality in the room you're in without special equipment, don't try. A lubricant should be thick enough to coat and stay there for decent periods of time, sugar in it's liquid state is actually a really good lubricant as long as it doesn't dry which in your body is impossible. I don't know what kind of car your drive but most cars are equipped with sound-deadening insolation which is the closest thing most can and will get to a vocal booth. I like most of your videos because you seem to do a lot of research but this one was quite clickbaity with a couple of myths and a personal bias against singing in the car
@DrDanRobinson
@DrDanRobinson Жыл бұрын
I appreciate you speaking your mind in a respectful manner, Crysis...but we still disagree: 1. Drinking 8 glasses of water per day improves systemic hydration, leading to better lubrication of the vocal folds. 2. Not everyone lives in a world where air quality is reasonably clean and clear. I have a global audience, and some people are living with poor air quality year-round. And you don't need special equipment to make this assessment. 3. Not singing in the car is not simply a 'personal bias!' The Lombard effect is real (look it up), and our body alignment when sitting in car seats is appalling. Singing in the car might look good on KZfaq, but it ultimately leads to a muscle memory that activates unnecessary tension.
