I recently did my A1C test. It was 6.3 I was elated. My Doctor however said I need to have some complex carbs. She said I should have some for breakfast. I don’t eat breakfast anymore. I didn’t tell her this. She asked what diet I’m on I said the one that my body needs.I told her my body doesn’t like carbs so I eat as little as possible. It’s allergic to sugar so I’ve totally stopped eating any sugar. I felt like she was scolding me instead of recognizing my hard work and dedication to better health.I was on a crap load of meds. I’m on 4 metformin 2 in the morning 2 at night. I stopped my cholesterol meds. My cholesterol result was fantastic, I also stopped my high blood pressure meds because I was constantly dizzy , when I took my blood pressure it was low. So after monitoring for awhile I stopped taking it and my dizziness went away. My body is the most important source of information, I’ll always listen to it. I started my lifestyle change in early December, after being sick every day from a new diabetes medication. I’m 54 years old and have had diabetes for 14 years now. I wish my Doctor at the time of diagnosis told me I’ve the power to reverse my condition instead of saying this is a progressive disease.

Sandra Westley most doctors were in medical school when in the 1970 it was decided that a healthy diet pyramid was a big Chuck of carbs at the bottom with fats at the top, so you eat the least if these, it is only recently that it has been recognised that we only started getting fat from 1970 when the diet advice was changed, in the UK hospitals are rolling out a similar to Keto in clinics to get diabetes in reverse, and I read in the paper it has recently been acknowledged by the American Dietitian Society that it is the best for reversing diabetes.

If you want to decrease insulin resistance you need to do something about the *cause* of insulin resistance-saturated fats from eating meat, eggs, and dairy products. Ekberg's recommendation that you eat more meat, eggs, and dairy (a low carbohydrate diet) is the exact opposite of what you should do to decrease insulin resistance. A chiropractic doctorate degree does not in any way inform Ekberg about nutritional science which is obvious from his remarks in this ill-informed video.

I reversed my diabetes years ago. As of yesterday, my A1C is 5.6....I do IF and LCHF diet. I’ve read up on the Dawn phenomenon, and my body definitely goes through this. I check my glucose twice a day. My morning fasting numbers have always been higher than normal, but then balances back out during the day. It use to be discouraging, but now that I know this happens and along with your explaination, I’m good. 😊 I did a happy dance with my A1C of 5.6
@jlbee1132
@jlbee1132 3 жыл бұрын
I have the same as you. Even the high glucose levels in the morning. Up to 9.3 in the morning, but it would come down to a normal 5.3 later. Then I fixed it. I fasted for 5 days. Nothing but water and salt. On day three the dawn phenomenon started coming down. 7.5. Day 4 it was down to 6.2. Day 5 it was 5.2. I believe that there is a store of glucose somewhere in your body that causes dawn phenomenon, and a long fast depletes it. I eat a carnivore diet now, OMAD, because when I eat any carbohydrate, even the tiny amounts in cruciferous vegetables, my morning fasting glucose level starts creeping up again. So, deplete that store, and keep it empty.

This is really good to hear. I recently wondered about that possibility because it's known that the ability of the body to process glucose deteriorates with age. I thought, what else deteriorates? Well, we lose muscle and of course, muscle is the first place the sugar is sent to for glycogen storage. So working on muscle could impact the system. I for one do NOT want to live low carb for years so I am going to work on getting some of my capacity back with weights so that I can sometimes have channa masala!

I immediately cut out all cabs and sugars and today, it's around 130 when I wake up and goes down to 115ish a couple hours after meals. It's around 85 after I train which is nice. At 70, I just found out through a heart cath that I do not have a 70% blockage of my native coronary artery, which was indicated on a cardiac CT erroneously, but only have a 20% blockage instead! I want to do all I can to get this under control through diet and thanks to you, I am learning how to do it. You really rock!! and thank you for being so generous with you time and filling us in with the truth.

I saw exactly this paradoxical situation recently. My 17 hour fasting BG was a scary 110+ but as soon as I ate something it immediately dropped to 80+. I read something that explained it as the liver producing ‘breakfast’ but the body, having become fat-adapted, simply didn’t use it, so it stayed in the blood stream. As it was not the emergency Dr Ekberg talks about, my body did not bother creating insulin to lower it. Today my fasting BG was 78, so I guess I am one more step along on this fascinating Keto journey.

Thank you Dr. Ekberg. I was recently diagnosed with type 2 and my A1C was over 10. I have been fasting and keeping carbs below 50/day. I did a 72 hour fast and my BG levels started at 130-140 range for the first 60 hours but then dropped to 92 but then when I started eating again they went back up to 120-130 range even after 10 hours of no eating. I’m getting very frustrated to the point where I don’t even want to eat anything anymore. But this video was encouraging knowing that I’m not in the emergency range and if I stay the path then I’ll heal. Just wanted to say thanks. You’re making a difference!

Dr. Ekberg, Thanks for this wonderful explanation. I have watched this video many times as it helped me resolve a key question. I have been doing low-carb and intermittent fasting for over a year but my fasting glucose is still in the 120-130 range and my postprandial glucose drops to 100-110. And now I know what is going on! I just need to keep on working on various aspects till I resolve my IR and get over my diabetes. Much appreciate. Your explanations are a treasure!

Great explanation Dr. Sten. Certainly fills in a few gaps in my knowledge and I'm glad that when I was diagnosed with T2D I didn't accept my Dr's advice to go on insulin to control BG levels (it didn't stop him and many others, over the 25 years since diagnosis, from trying). Lots of other things came into play with all of this but your videos have given me hope that I can get on top of this sugar addiction. I'm now carnivore and (mostly) eat less than 10gms of carbs a day.

When I check my blood sugar after many hours of fasting, even 24 hours or more, it comes out to be 104-1012! Never under 100! After very heavy meals, 2 hours after large meals it puts me around 120-124! A few weeks ago I measured my HbA1C in a microbiological laboratory and they found it at 5.4. At 66 years old, I still haven't figured out what phase I'm in. Thanks for your videos

Wish I could actually have a one on one talk with you as I am a full blown diabetic on insulin struggling to get a grip of my high A1cs seemingly with no help or directions. I am stuck between eating enough, maintaining energy and weight, yet not eating enough to supply me with the energy needed and trying to keep my sugar levels or spikes down from eating. I seem to have an average of only 4-5 good hours a day then fizzle into no energy, fatigue and the end of my day. My daily intake of total carbs is less than 80. I could go less but my energy levels drop even more.

It is difficult enough to find an MD that is not skewed by attachment to big pharma et al, but to start by trusting an fake pretending to be an MD is very risky in my view, but to each his own.

I have PCOS, and instead of insulin resistance, i like to call it Hyperinsulinemia, because it's easier to really grasp the concept that way. I've just started taking my blood glucose levels, and i am also a nurse, btw. But, i was shocked to see that with fasting and clean keto, my glucose has been running 120-130 around 5 am. But i also have crazy sleep schedules, and high cortisol, which I'm also working on. But thank you for this great info! It just wasn't making sense to me.

I live in Australia and I am 63. I was diagnosed with a blood sugar of 12.9mmol/L (225mg/dl) 30 yrs ago. After decades of Type 2 diabetes and doing what I thought was right in eating, and then stressing about not getting my sugars lower, I realised that I needed to learn more about what carbs actually are, and teaching myself to stress-less. Being of European descendance, pasta, rice and potatoes was the norm. This year I started the Keto diet and have replaced processed flour and other foods with almond flour, increased my healthy fats and oils, walnut, almond, coconut and macadamia and loving my butter again. I went onto KZfaq and learnt how to make healthy Keto sweets and meals. Bought Monk Fruit (always had my Stevia) and so many other things, so now I can enjoy my sweet life in more than one way! I have lost 10+ kilos (22 pounds) in just a few months and my energy levels are going great. No more burnouts. Listening to you Doc is another step in the right direction. Thank you 👏👏👏🥰😍❤️❤️

You’re videos are so great! Thank you for sharing this valuable info. Off topic, you recently posted a survey asking what makes keto difficult, but my experience, which I think might be true for others, was not included. What I miss most when trying to eat Keto is the crunch of eating chips and the sense of texture when eating things like bread and pasta. Keto foods make me feel satiated, but they don’t satisfy those other “needs.” I hope this is useful. Thanks, again!

This is exactly what's happening to me! I'm diabetic and use an insulin pump and I started a low carb diet back in October 2021 and then started IF in April 2022 and since then I've lost 30 pounds but my sugars have stayed up when I fast because I started weening away from the insulin pump because it keeps weight on I noticed and retains IR. My longest fast was 2 days and 4 hours and my sugars stayed at around 135 would not not come down any lower. I started to use insulin pump to make adjustments and then take it off. I think I should just not use going forward and stick to keto. I became a diabetic at 37 and I'm 52 now. I've read a lot on how insulin keeps weight on.

Hi. Are you diabetic? I am not diabetic. I am now 2 months on intermittent fasting.I fast 18-20 hours daily along with exercise just (for my general health) my fasting blood sugar was always in a normal range (86 - 95) I measured every single day since the last two months BUT just suddenly the last few days I noticed my fasting blood sugar is going up between 100- 122 and 2 hours after food it goes down between 92- 97 I am so confused why this is happening after two months of intermittent fasting and good result with my body shape and fasting blood sugar levels were good…etc I have lost 11kg.

I did enjoy the video. I have had fasting blood glucose of about 108 for a few years. I follow a keto diet and thought this would keep my fasting glucose in the 80s. So I decided, after consulting KZfaq videos, to do a variety of fasts. After my fasting efforts, I saw that my fasting glucose had started going up to 115-125! Also my cholesterol is routinely higher after fasting. I had an appointment for a doctor immediately following a two weeks fast, and seeing my cholesterol I was given a prescription for statins. At this point I am sometimes able to have fasting blood sugar in the 90s and sometimes around 110. One doctor who does fasting KZfaq videos says that during a fast one begins to use stored fats from the cells and stored sugar in the liver, which causes the odd numbers on tests.

No statins. They are proven a fake, just $$ in the doc's pocket.

I also eat mostly low carb and low sugar. My fasting glucose is 107-109 but my A1C is a 5.1. Very odd indeed. I don’t wear a glucose monitor to see what happens to my glucose after meals but def odd that my A1C is lower than my fasting glucose. I fast 16 hrs almost every day. Those numbers suggest to me that I’m probably not seeing huge blood sugar spikes after meals.
