Need more quick and to the point videos like this on youtube. thanks for not giving your life story and series of events that led you to owning a drill press.

haha, I agree with the endless blah blahs before the meat of a video.

Great explanation. Another way to get a stubborn chuck off, assuming it still works, is to clamp a nut tightly in the chuck and then thread a bolt into it to push on the taper from below, like a gear puller

*Bought as a gift for my son and his second grade son to use on a Pinewood Derby car. Wanted something relatively safe and able to be packed away when not in use. Worked well. **MyBest.Tools** Easy to use and set up. Case provides good storage.*

Thanks for the video. I was just using my Craftsman 8 inch. When the chuck came off. Now I know for sure how to put it back on. It was a Christmas gift, from my mother. In 1988.

Thank you, nice, short and to the point. I thought I would have to replace the whole drill press. Turns out I only had to take it off and oil it well from both sides. Now this sock puppet is a happy sock puppet!!

Thank you very much. I assembled the whole thing but the directions said to gently insert the Chuck. This caused it to fly off when powered on. However after this video I went back and slide the table up some, added my board and then pressed down a little harder and the tapered end locked itself into place. So thank you for instilliny confidence in getting my chuck installed. I was able to finish all my hole drilling this evening and ready for more success tomorrow.

Thanks. I just got a brand new 10 inch press and the chuck fell off when I was tightening a bit up in it. I thought it was missing parts or something. Had no idea its just held on like this

FYI: The instructions say to open the chuck all the way, then hold it with one hand and hit it on the side with a mallet. That way you can catch it before it falls. However, the instructions don't say how to reinstall the chuck, so thanks for this video.

For the life of me, I could not figure out what was holding it on to the spinle shaft... now I know, thanks to you....!! Just toooooo simple for me to figure out I guess... thanks for the video....!!

Is another way to do this, is to replace the chuck and then press it against a piece of wood? I am putting together the same 5 speed drill press that you have. I got it from Harbor Freight and the chuck wobbles. I've only used it once.
@rski1036 Жыл бұрын
After 2 years; the new chuck fell off when using a 2 1/2 in hole saw. Back on with rubber mallet and it fell off again. Thinking of using some lock tight ??
@Snowchris12 жыл бұрын
Thats what I need to do right now, You did it exactly like the directions said, they want me to clean the rod and chuck was acetone to remove all oil? I guess its so the tapered faces seat with no debris or oil that would cause friction

I just bought this 8" 5 speed drill press and went to put on the chuck got it on went to pull on it a little bit and it came right off not sure if that's a good thing
@seejohnmake5 жыл бұрын
You will need to hit it a bit harder I think to secure it
@felixf52116 жыл бұрын
FYI, the 'rod' for the chuck is called an arbor. Good luck.

Is that as mine? Value Craft 8050 MFG 19A I need to take it off and wondering how since there's no hole at side to put a wedge Don't know if to bang it out .
@seejohnmake3 жыл бұрын
Not sure / most drill presses are the same though!
@ccccen3 жыл бұрын
@@seejohnmakeMine don't have the side hole to be able to put a wedge inside and have it pop off so I'm figuring it might be the type you bang out till it drops off, I'm going to use a ball joint fork to slip it off.
@johnsuarez14046 ай бұрын
How hard should I hit it? I'm scared to destroy the mechanism inside. I thought I hit it plenty hard but when I used it the chuck fell off
@johncrepezzi5 ай бұрын
If you retract the jaws all the way and give it a pretty good hit it should stay on. Slightly harder than you would think, and try to make sure the taper is clean first.
@johnsuarez14045 ай бұрын
@@johncrepezzi yeah I crossed my fingers and beat the crap out of it with the plastic side of my hammer. Not too hard, but firm hits. My logic was that if you keep hitting something, you can nudge it further and further without hitting it harder. No problems since.
@johncrepezzi5 ай бұрын
@@johnsuarez1404 awesome, I'm glad it worked out :) using the press will also continue to push it tighter so you should be good

great job!! Since you helped me with my drill chick problem allow me to help you! Try not to have the camera face a window or light source as it makes the shot more of a silhouette and makes it harder to see the details of what you are showing. Not a hater or a troll I swear. Just a fair photographer trying to help
