When "no pandering, no forced message, no villainizing your audience" is something positive about a movie I don't even know what I can expect from Hollywood movie anymore.
@EnsignRedshirtRicky7 ай бұрын
Actually the Climate Change BS is the main plot point, so it actually has forced messaging. When coupled with Heard not being mostly cut as WB claimed, this is an easy skip for me.

On a more negative note, it also showed that even without all of these Marvel shove-it-down-your-throat things a movie can still be terrible. And I’m not even talking about a certain controversial cast, the movie is just bad from beginning to end.

There's a scene in an episode of the 2007(ish) Justice League where Aquaman and his baby son are strapped to a rock wall that's sliding towards an underwater lava flow. In an effort to save his son, Aquaman is able to free one arm but not the other, so *he cuts off his own arm* in a sacrificial effort to save his son and get them both safely back home. It's only a minute or so long, and there are very few lines of dialogue, just a display of real masculinity that is inspiring and moving. As a wife and mother, watching this with my kids, I legitimately cried because it was so beautiful.

What I've always suggested is that DC should have gone opposite Marvel. Start with the Justice League already a thing. Just like the animated series. Focus on a threat to show how they work together THEN have them in their own focus movies. The DC superheros are so well known that you don't need origin movies right off the bat. For some of the lesser known ones sure, but the big three are ingrained in the culture already.

The counter argument is that this is what BvS tried to do, in amongst also trying to be a Man of Steel sequel. Sometimes, being different for the sake of being different doesn't work. Marvel worked because it made those characters known prior to Avengers. Even then, I don't think most really cared for knowing Thor or Cap, it's just that Iron Man was a massive success and Avengers was almost an Iron Man sequel in it's own right. I think DC would have been better making an actual Man of Steel 2, then a Batman and WW solo movie, instead of creating a mini JL movie within BvS.

Is Amber Heard in it? Yes Then I'm not going to see it and probably not going to any Warner Bros/DC movies. Johnny lost 2 franchises based on an accusation alone. Removing her from this 1 movie after being proven to be a liar doesn't feel like a big ask. Tootleloo, won't miss you.

she was not ''proven a liar". He lost 1 lawsuit and then managed to get a partial victory on another one. SHe still had audio files of him admitting he hit her! He's was just arguing on the spot in which he hit her....that is NOT a normal thing in a relationship. Why do you guys feel the need to defend that creep?? It's mind-boggling. At least you can blame them both for being complacent in such a toxic marriage, but it's really odd to be blaming just her for it. The defense of Johnny and hate of Amber started years prior to him winning anything in court. It's really odd the level of simping going on for this dude. He's a washed up actor who can barely speak due to his substance abuse issues. His kids are messed up, he's fked up ALL his past relationships...the dude's a train wreck at best. Why make excuses for him and just blame her for their trainwreck marriage?

@@andrabook8758 "The court clerk read aloud the jury’s verdict, finding that Heard had defamed Depp with each of three statements in the op-ed. The jury also found that Heard had acted with “actual malice,” meaning that they were convinced she had made the statements knowing they were false. The jury ruled in favor of Heard on one out of three statements that were made by Depp’s lawyer, Adam Waldman, in the Daily Mail. Waldman had asserted that Heard and her friends had set up “an ambush, a hoax,” when police were called to the couple’s apartment in May 2016." -Variety 01Jun2022 First, do you know how hard it is to win a defamation case in the U.S.? Most people, and even corporations, don't even try. As such, even a partial win is unheard of. That being said, the courts ruled in favor of Johnny in his defamation case against her. Full stop. He won. The courts then ruled in favor of Amber in her countersuit against him for claims he made through his attorney during the case. Neither of which constitutes a "partial victory". Second, I never claimed that Johnny was an angel. I stated a fact. She made an allegation, and he lost 2 franchises over it. She was proven in a court of law to be a liar, again "Actual malice", and is still in this movie. Third, what Johnny admitted to was trying to restrain Amber during a tantrum in which she was actively trying to assault him and "accidentally" head-butting her. The reason for arguing the location of the impact was to show that she had fabricated evidence against him as an impact on the forehead wouldn't have caused a broken nose as she claimed and showed a doctored picture of. Given the nature of the altercation, as well as Heard's documented behavior, it's entirely plausible that he did do it accidentally. Considering too that that alone would have sunk Johnny's defamation claim if they hadn't, I'm going to say the court agreed with Johnny. Where was Heard's claim about "accidentally" throwing a bottle and severing his finger? What about "accidentally" hitting him and then "accidentally" telling him nobody would believe he was a victim? What about "accidentally" defecating in his bed? I'm not simping for Johnny. They're both flawed people who acted horribly in an incredibly toxic relationship. I haven't enjoyed a performance from him since Pirates 2, and he's made certain claims that I find absolutely revolting. That could not be further from the point. The real issue is she made claims that were false, adjudicated so by the court hence "actual malice", and she's still in a major Hollyweird film, whereas He lost multiple roles and hasn't been in anything since, based solely on her accusation. My problem is not with Heard or Depp. That case is now over, and they will resolve it however they will. My problem is with DC/WB for platforming an admitted abuser. Finally, if you're going to use quotes, get the full quote, or at least use ellipses. I never said, "proven a liar". I said, "proven to be a liar." It's a little thing, but an important one.

To be fair, Black Manta killing Arthur Jr is a MASSIVE plot point in the comics going back decades, and generates a lot of ongoing drama. I wouldn't blame them for doing that. Even the beloved DCAU Justice League animated series has Arthur Jr. threatened with death (and Arthur sacrificing a hand to save him, which in the comics are two completely separate events plotted decades apart.)

I doubt it'll do anything close to that, but I hope it's at least profitable. The people trashing the movie are being a bit too harsh IMO. I saw it on Friday and I had fun. I'm not going to call it amazing, but it definitely isn't terrible. It's decent, harmless, and fun. It has some cool action, nice visuals, and most of the jokes managed to get a chuckle out of me. Overall, a solid 6 or 7 out of 10 in my book; not great, but more good than bad.

its not so bad. just have fun, its a comic book movie guys. what if i told you all this silliness & surreal stuff is actually source-accurate? if you read aquaman comics, youd get whales destroying things with their sonic beams & swirling bad guy heads monologuing. for decades readers have loved this silly stuff & thats what the film is trying to recapture. its meant to be outlandish & a little wacky. thats the charm. its not a sci-fi film, its mirroring the pages of a comic book.

So basically it's mediocre, and probably doesn't deserve to bomb as hard as it will likely do, but it will nevertheless. I know, I know, we should hold creators to higher standards etc, etc, but what is wrong with mediocre if it's mildly entertaining and non-pandering? If it's not good, then sure, it does not deserve profit, but if it's not garbage, it doesn't deserve heavy losses either. Ok, maybe in this case, they kinda lied about the extent of Amber Heard's role, so, ok, deserves a loss, but not a Marvels level bomb.
