I drove my All Electric Car a Porsche Taycan EV from Leeds in England to The Isle of Skye in Scotland to prove find out if Electric Vehicles really are the future or do they just add extra time and stress to your journey? Plus the motor manufacturers market Electric Cars as being cheaper than their petrol and diesel counterparts, well in this shocking rEVelation I will show you the truth about owing an electric car and the EV infrastructure. I have owned this one now for a year and the price has depreciated so much I can not afford to hand it back. I'm an EV owner that is not afraid to speak about my experience of owning one. If you are thinking about buying an EV then you need to watch this video. If you are not interested in Electric Cars, watch anyway for the amazing views along the way on this road trip from Leeds through Scotland to The Isle of Skye.

Totally agree with the control scenario. When the they can access your computer in your car they can change your settings for speed restrictions, check your location, where you’ve been, what your speed has been, your routes, stop your charge, restrict your charge rate and range. Soon to lock you inside of it and hold you there for whatever reason.

Spot on Lee! I fully agree with your comments regarding the obvious control element surrounding EV’s. They are a disastrous idea and people will regret signing on to this lunacy. Hopefully people will start waking up to this madness before it’s too late. Anyway, glad you are on the mend and I look forward to more videos.

My daughter had an all electric mini about 12 months ago. She backed it because, especially in the winter the actual range on a full charge was less than 80 miles. She and her partner planned a weekend visit to Bath from Watford in Hertfordshire. Because of the ridiculous lack of charging arrangements they never made it. They turned round and came home. She changed the Mini for a petrol 1 series BMW, which she loves. Also there are no refuelling problems when she has to travel any distance. Needless to say neither of us will go full electric anytime soon.

Great video. You are totally right about the distance you can cover in a Diesel car. My wife and and I travelled from where we live which is a small village just outside Newcastle-upon-Tyne to Reading and back home in our Mercedes-Benz CLS 300 on under three quarters of a tank of fuel. We had enough left to do our everyday running about for over a week. We stopped a couple of times on the way back as we had purchased our new puppy and she needed “toilet stops”. We did notice that the EV charging points were all in use and had several people waiting in a queue to have their charge. Would never swap our car for an electric model - too much hassle.

When you're sat charging by the petrol station you should count the number of cars that fill up in that time. Double that number, because EVs have half the range so need to charge twice as often, then you can work out how many chargers would be required to replace the fuel station. The numbers are CRAZY, and you'd need a power feed more than a normal city suburb!
@djtaylorutube

Well you don't because the majority will be home charging. That's not an option for most people with petrol/diesel.

I think doubling the number is well understating it. Look at Lee's journey to Skye, he charged 5 times in a day. My 2005 Focus tdci would have done that journey and half way back on a 48litre fill-up (650 miles / tank)

@@djtaylorutubeThe same problem occurs at home, if you want a charging rate that means you don’t have to be plugged in at all times when at home. Not only will the cross section of supply cable be too low, but the entire grid has insufficient capacity to add on the population level charging capability. Finally, even if we could overcome the supply rate problem, we cannot generate anything faintly large amounts of electrical power without opening a good number of new nuclear or fossil fuel power stations. None of this is going to happen. But every BEV that gets bought is one click further down the control agenda that the globalists have been installing for years.

Hey Lee. A couple of years ago friend of a friend purchased an EV and he was so excited about the vehicle because he was helping the environment. YEAH NAH! Caught up with the friend recently and my first question was "how is your friend's EV going?" Apparently his friend got rid of the EV after 12 months due to problems with charging and the amount of wasted time in the charging process being the main issue along with lack of mileage between charges!

Where does the electricity at a charging point come from? The Government obviously have no idea. To them, it's just there, and electricity is all "clean". ALL the energy supplies, whether from wind, solar, oil or gas feed into the grid where 80% of the grid electricity is generated by burning oil and gas. It then has to be transformed to higher voltage for transmission by cables and pylons. As it approaches points of use it has to be transformed to a lower voltage. Transmission and transformers are efficient, but there is always some energy loss between the source and the user. To make up for these losses, requires 20% more fossil fuel energy at source. So at the charging point, it's 100% fossil fuel energy, and EVs are clearly NOT going to reduce global emissions. Today's ads for EV cars gloat how they provide 200hp. They would only help to keep emissions down if they were no more than 50hp. I am not going to buy an EV.

As for Wales, there is indeed no infrastructure for EV's here in North Wales - no-one wants one under ANY circumstance, so sales are very very low so there are few charging points - we leave all that nonsense to you English, then laugh when you ask us where the nearest charging point is as we say 80 miles that way as we fill up with diesel and go on our merry way. I predict Motels will spring up beside these EV charging stations on expressways and highways when doing bigger trips ,no doubt built by the oil industry as another way to cash in on the shortfall in fuel sales as it seems most EV charging platforms are situated conveniently in petrol / gas stations. The queues and wait time will eventually get that long and drawn out frustration will rein and the alternative will be to check into the BP / Mobil / Caltex / Shell motel that adjoins the EV charging point for some much needed rest and sanity relief to escape the chaos that will become life for the “Ordinary person on the street”

There are two charge points currently. One is out of order, and the other doesn't work for 50% of people, probably due to banking links to peoples accounts being broken. So, I'm grabbing some popcorn and watching to see what happens. ETA, Yeah my wifes car was a CX5 diesel, would have done that trip on one tank. I think the majority of EV drivers probably have an Iphone, which also explains the car styling if you think about it. It's a suppository with a suppository driving another suppository... it's suppositories all the way down!

I think some of the issue is many car companies have just jumped on the band wagon to get sales if a trendy fashion. Trouble is the quality is poor. Id say electric is fine for short journeys where u can charge at home. Otherwise no! Electric lorries etc are a no go cos of the weight of the batteries. The government focus on the emissions as the only evil of car ownership. Manufacturing is a far bigger destroyer of the planet. Encourage people to own cars longer is an answer.

you probably know this already but its not worth charging your EV above 80% when on a journey, the charging rate seriously slows down above 80%. much more time efficient to get back on road at 80% and plan in an extra charging stop. overall this will save you a few hours on a really long journey. to charge an EV from 10% to 80% takes about the same time as charging that final 20% from 80 to 100%.

I think EV owners fall roughly into two groups, those that have given up on EV’s and others that wish they could, the second group, those that sing their praises and live in a fantasy world , oh yeah and they probably once owned a 2 CV

so - £24 .... 199 mile rage prior to charging, 263 mile range when finished charging..... £24 for 64 miles???? I'd be getting 182 miles for that £24 in my diesel - that EV 'fuelling' is incredibly expensive.

I've done over 20k on US road trips. We intentionally had no phone and used only the same paper map for years. The feeling of getting lost is a joy. Changing plans, weird places you intended to stay and then... were weird... coming across places you never intended...all part of the fun. All part of the adventure. Lee, you are a towny, sir.

There are a large number of tourist traps throughout America, usually the largest of something, you name it... Drive along Highway 66, there are many small town tourist traps... I encourage first time Amtrak long distance riders to not just book city to city, but stop at any town in-between and spend a day/night if only to enjoy the local fishing hole or spend a night at a local small town bed and breakfast... See America, not ride a train through it...

Very enjoyable vlog, better than some Hollywood movies! I went to Skye four years ago via Ben Nevis using a Kuga diesel, no problems. The scenery driving through the Highlands is just amazing, so picturesque and desolate. No shopping centres there. Looking forward to part 2.o

I think if you buy brand new personal, I would say the savings on fuel would be hard to justify. The government is failing here for not supplying grants etc for personal. But buying through business with BIK & tax / servicing / fuel etc you save money. I think the negativity on EV's at the moment is great, the price of EV's have really dropped. So if buying personal second hand, now would be a good time. But I will say EV's are not for everyone, if you can't charge from home, avoid, avoid, avoid. If you can charge at home, and 95% of your driving is within say 100 miles EV's are a really good option.

Absolutely FANTASTIC! 2.5 hours well spent rather than watch dross on the tv. Just wish you'd done a bit more with a drive around the Isle, but hey,, thouroughly enjoyed wht you have done for US to enjoy on your epic journey. Bit more planning for accomodation and grub stops would have made it a bit less tiresome for you perhaps, but hats off to you anyway. Should have taken one of those single burner hobs, small fold up table and a cool box full of bacon eggs sausages mushrooms and beans perhaps, and done a fry up next to one of those most beautiful Lochs? Stuff the haters. You are as much entitled to your opinions as anyone else. Thank you Lee.

I have made the first part of the journey , Leeds to Glasgow, many times over the past few years. Lovely roads . I used to stop 2 or 3 times with the diesel van, a mixture of a break from the noise, wanting a latte and the dog needing out. So the idea of possibly having to stop a million times on every EV journey did not bother me, yet I now seem to make only ONE stop and have done it non stop except for the dog needing out. Just listening to the video and there is Lee telling us all that we should stop being lemmings and we should all do this, .....like a lemming ! !

Do not forget Lee, you was in Scotland and we have the Useless Hate crime, you would have been in trouble talking about "oldies" . I now use the B7076/B7078 instead of the A74M, M74 a lovely drive.

This brought back so many memories. A regular trip on boxing day from Batley, where my parents lived, to the house on Skye after Xmas visiting. Travelled on Boxing Day. In those days, filling stations on Skye didn't open on Sunday, or Boxing Day. modest IC cars had a shorter range, similar to your EV, and I knew I had to fill up as close to Skye as possible. I was the sole driver, but the journey was doable, even knowing that I would have to re-fill the drained water system from the private water supply and clear all the air locks before being able to light the solid fuel stove for heating and hot water. It seems the journey is harder in your electric Porche than it was in my ageing Jetta.

A show were the cars were as much the stars was Miami Vice. I've been revisiting it a lot on one of the streaming services last couple of weeks. A black Ferrari Daytona Spyder and the white Ferrari Testaross. Not to mention the designer fashions and cool 80's music. I feel like older cars had more character. My favourite American muscle car is a Pontiac GTO. Either a 69 or 64 model. The 1964 model in particular is stunningly beautiful. Tesla Girls OMD lol.

Just looking at your costs. I've got a discovery 4 diesel in Australia ,it costs me $100 to fill from nearly empty which gives me about 670 km ( 416 miles ) it cost you £32 ( $62 ) per 250 miles ( 402 km ) . Price wise pretty compatible i think . Now factor in your wasted 2 hours a day power hunting. I can tow my camper trailer into the bush without loosing or drive in the mountains in winter ( now ) with no great loss in km through heating ... just a thought. Great show 😊

Agree with you Lee, about the cars in the TV programmes. They were fantastic and iconic, weren't they. Used to LOVE the Gran Torino in "Starsky and Hutch" and as you say, the cats were as much a part of the show. Nowadays - well, don't know what designers are thinking - well, they're not thinking, are they - cars all look the blasted same! Nothing stands out from anything else! Lol. ❤

Oh and I wanted to point out before you have a go at aeroplanes and aviation. It’s a big public misconception. When asked the public believe that aviation was responsible for around 20% of global carbon emissions. The true figure is that aviation is responsible for around 1-2% of global carbon emissions. It’s actually shipping that does more damage and all the power that’s being used in all these gigantic giga factories and data storage units with all the big processors and computing power that’s one of the biggest contributors. Aviation is relatively low on the carbon footprint side of things. But is something the government will never tell you because they don’t want people flying around. Again it’s this restriction of freedom of movement. Same as covid. If they were really concerned they wouldn’t have had all these parties and gatherings. It’s the same with cars and aviation. If they were really concerned then they themselves wouldn’t be doing it. That’s why I believe it’s all a scam. If politicians were really concerned they wouldn’t be flying into a climate change summit in their private jets. It would be held on line. I think they all know it’s a scam and they are trying to hoodwink us yet again.

Thanks for another great video. Informative and concerning at the same time. By the way, the route is the same one I use (never bother with satnav, sorted it years ago with a thing called a map 😉), to get up to Skye. Yes, you have to go north-east to go north-west, but the geography forces you to do that and it's quicker than the alternative round Glasgow. When you were in Spean Bridge you could have turned left for Fort William, 15 mins away, and been in a Premier Inn. The drawbacks of using satnav are that you can lose contextual awareness. You were within minutes of a big town with a decent hotel, but satnav was telling you to turn right. A look at a road atlas would have shown how close you were to major civilisation (relatively speaking!). Still, fab scenery.
